This place is wonderful. It is far and away the greatest place to stay with kids that I know of. First, everything on the property is set up for kids. The animals pens have clearly labeled ways to interact with the animals (like "FEED - one handful only" written clearly on a large barrel outside the goat pen. Or "Brushes" next to the horse corral. If there are problems with the animals, that is labeled also. There are little activities set up - checker boards with giant checkers, rope swings, tether ball, etc... Best of all, everything is in the shade of the mature tree canopies. Its not like more commercial camps where the trees got leveled just before the camp moved in. The property sits directly on the river. There is also a dam directly in front to allow access across the river. Big Rocks park is maybe a five minute walk (you can see it right there, you just have to walk a ways to get into it.) The river walk runs directly in front of the B&B and on the same side of the river. The river walk is a simple 8 or so minute walk into downtown. There is a great public park just before you get to downtown. Best of all, they have a great private river access spot. If you drive through the white gate by the breakfast barn - its ok, we asked - and park at the chapel (across the field on the left) then you can walk to the left about 50-60ft and find a path leading down to the river. The whole cross-section of the river here is very shallow with some nice gentle rapids. Its all rock bottom - mostly smooth. My 5&6yr old loved it and even though my 5yr old is a challenged swimmer at this point, we never worried about him. We had this place to ourselves - we could see the Big Rocks park but couldnt even hear the people there. We let our kids run barefoot for hours here. If you like watching birds, or sitting quietly and watching nature and the river, there are several little benches set up high on the river bank along the clearing by the chapel for people to sit and watch/relax/meditate. Further, if you like hiking, there is a great trail to go explore. From the chapel, just head right (East.) Youll find a walk-way with a little pass-through to get outside the barbed-wire fencing for the horse(s). Youll then be treated to a moderately challenging (at least if you have kids) walk up higher on the rivers edge. Youll find spectacular views of the river looking East - unpopulated - or back West - overlooking the city. Unfortunately we only discovered the hike and river access spot Sunday, our last day. I highly recommend anyone going to go here first. Honestly, we got the last available cabin. It lacked central heat/AC which I noticed several (if not all) other places had. The window unit was barely adequate and it wasnt much over 90 if at all when we were there. The bed wasnt the most comfortable but Im also getting old and really like our Temperpedic so I might not be the best judge of this! :) I think we probably could have paid less and stayed in a new hotel room at one of the discount chains popping up around town. I promise you, we wont think twice about where to stay. This place is awesome. We were all already thinking about when we could return.

We had the BEST week at the Country Woods Inn in Glen Rose, TX! My husband had a few days off so we decided to pack up the kids ( we have a 3 year old daughter and a 7 month old daughter) and get away from the city for a few days. Only about an hour outside of Fort Worth, the Country Woods Inn was the perfect retreat for some family fun and relaxation. A few of the many highlights of our stay was having breakfast in the barn, feeding the animals, hiking the wooded trails, and teaching our 3 year old the fun of croquet and tether ball. There is even a toddler playground complete with a lemonade stand! We ventured off on several day trips exploring historic Glen Rose, Granbury, Hico, Dinosaur Valley State Park and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. With everything there is to do and see it wasnt surprising that our 3 year old didnt ask to turn on the TV once! She did however repeatedly ask to feed Tomcat the horse, Zachary the goat, and Eliza the donkey. We ended our days catching fireflies and roasting marshmallows over our fire pit. What a special place and a week we will always remember as a family. I look forward to our next visit because we are definitely going back to the Country Woods Inn! We highly recommend it!

My family and I had the pleasure of spending a magical long weekend at the County Woods Inn. From the moment we arrived on the property our enchanted adventure began. We took advantage of wading in the River, a highlight for our daughter, feeding the animals, and exploring the property. The chapel was beautiful and was the perfect venue for a pretend wedding for a toddler and her prince. As I said, this place was truly magical! It wasn’t just fun for the children; mom and dad had a wonderful time catching up with old friends around the fire pit. We may even have indulged in Smore’s after the kids were in bed! The Inn has thought of everything, from snacks to feed the animals to a gift bag with Blue Bonnets to be planted at home. I know that I am going to plant my seeds in an effort to capture just a slice of the charm we enjoyed in Glen Rose!

I had my wedding here in August and it is the most beautiful place ever. We got married at sunrise and the view from the Main house is just breath taking! Everyone who worked there were really nice and very accommodating to our needs. They were very polite, professional and above all UNDERSTANDING. I would highly recommend staying here whether it be for a nice getaway or to book a wedding like I did! Its a very magical place. Everything is so quaint and quirky, but also rustic and vintage! Which I love :) They were also very helpful when it came to hiring rentals as well as offering a list of things to do in the area. My husband and I plan on visiting again to relive the best day of our lives. This place is top notch!

My wife and I recently got married here and I cant say enough great things about our experience. For starters, the staff was super helpful in making sure we were prepared in advance. The houses were stocked with everything we could want. The landscape provided such an amazing array of different scenes for the wedding pictures. The best thing was, rather than having a big wedding in a church, we had a quaint wedding with family for the weekend. Whether getting married or just getting away, I would definitely recommend checking them out!

Wonderful family friendly lodging! There is something for everyone from walking trails to petting corrals, this place has thought of it all. All of my children, ages 1, 4, and 13 are having a great time here, as well as myself and my husband! Would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!!
