Altex is sort of a "hidden gem" here in Houston. It doesnt have the prices or computer hardware selection of Directron, but what it does have is an extensive selection of products for IT Professionals and Network Technicians. Its one of the only stores in Houston where you can get a wide selection of networking equipment, tools, cable, and supplies. I love being able to look at different equipment (racks, cabinets, tools, cable management, etc.) and have a hands-on experience, rather than just looking through catalogs and ordering. In addition, their prices are usually pretty good. I buy most of my network hardware (faceplates, jacks, etc.) from them because its the best combination of a quality product and a good price that Ive found. Typically, Rexel and Graybar have been more expensive for what I need. In addition, the employees are surprisingly knowledgable -- in most "computer / technology shops" like Frys, Best Buy, etc., the employees are usually not very knowledgable. Not so at Altex -- Im consistently impressed with the customer service, and the product knowledge of Altexs employees. Ive been shopping here for years, and my only notable complaint is that its so far away from where I work. I highly recommend it if youre in Information Technology, and do a fair amount of networking work.

They were open earlier than posted hours on Saturday! Drove out there and was prepared to wait ten minutes, found out that they were open. Most stores make customers wait until the anointed hour before they will sit down their coffee and opened the doors. I think that is just one example of how Altex focuses on the customer. Every person was nice, polite, helpful and knowledgeable. There was no attitude of I know more than you do." The store is fun to walk the isles just to check out all the stuff they carry. This is where Radio Shack once hoped to be when they grew up and before they became a cell phone overpriced cable store!

Quite overpriced... Like a giant RadioShack with people who work on commission. They told me they price matched competitors and made me jump through 1000 hoops just to tell me that they wouldt do the price match because it was below their cost. If someone had a gun to my head and told me they needed a BNC connector, I would ask them if 2 day prime shipping was acceptable, order it through Amazon and take the bullet to the head because a bullet to the head is better than the prices at Altex. Stores at the airport would be ashamed at Altex inflated prices.

Just visited this place with my hubby, its okay. They have parts for computers. And they make them. Kevin walked through the price quote for my hubbys gaming computer. He was super helpful and very friendly. As everyone in there was. While my hubby got his geek on I sat back and watched Zootopia playing on one-of-a-kind the computers. Overall I say go check them out if you have a chance. And look for monthly specials, for all your computer needs.

They have good knowledgeable staff that are pretty eager to get u what u need. My only problem is if you need computer parts this place is expensive. Video cards and stuff are someones $50 higher than new egg or going to Frys or micro center here in Houston . but they got decent prices on other stuff like cables and stuff. But if u need parts for PC this place has a good upcharge might be better to get somewhere else.

Ive known about this place for years. Possibly the best place that I know of to come to if you have computer problems, or need a new system or parts. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff that have always given excellent service and high quality of work. If youre thinking of going to Best Buy or Frys, skip those two and come here instead.

Not only is everyone very helpful, they just happen to have everything I need whenever Im in a pinch. They had my Raspberry Pi, and on my more recent visit I found everything I need to repair my drone. They even had iFixit brand repair tools! That made my day. So, to sum it up: a good store that has all of my tech needs close to home.

Imagine the whole store is empty of customers, you come in and at least 20 guys put their eyes on you. My first thought was " How the hell they can stay in business". I have figured out that theyre over priced on alot of items. Thats reason why the customers have run away. I will keep my eyes on it to see how long will be closed.

Not the friendliest staff and a nightmare to get to -- but they have what you need at reasonable prices. Good stock of quality items. And, although the staff doesnt rate high on personality, they are by no means, rude in any way and are willing to help. In addition, 290 has always been hell. Even before all the new construction.

An electronics store with a complete supply of just about anything youd need for DIY, maker or repairing your home electronics (or small business). From small piece parts to server racks, Altex carries about 99% of anything you need at a reasonable price, and the remaining 1% they dont stock, they can order very quickly.

the prices here are horrible. video cards for example at least the one i looked at was 60.00 dollars higher compared to other computer retailers. not a good selection of motherboards or cases. not a good variety of video cards either. this place is more for if you need tools or cables to do your job.

If you are a computer/electronics business, why would you tell a customer to go back to the manufacturer. The customer service guy didnt even bother to ask more question. He lost a current and future sales, but gain word of mouth advertising! *Where not to go!*

Very low prices on Ethernet cables in every length imaginable. Also a awesome Radio Shack of the 90s style assortment of cables, connectors, converters, wires, fans, and electrical components. I regularly stop in for computer modding equipment and supplies.

It is quite a drive for me to go there, so I save up my projects. Every time the service has been great. The staff will offer knowledgeable help find the products you need or let you walk around and browse if you want. There are no box pushers here.

Very proffessional staff. Robert Vega and Rene always greet me by name. I wish I was better with names but the guy that drives the Red Accord Coupe has gotta be the best in product knowledge and customer skills. Very great place to do business.

They have a huge variety of products from tools, test equipment. Computer parts, network video cameras, and electronics. The sales staff here are always eager to assist me, when I go to the store.

Weak selection of what I needed. I returned $300 worth of goods that I paid cash for and they couldnt give me cash in return... instead they issued me a gift card which I cant even use online.

Prices are questionable but the service is always on point and where else can you go to get bulk anything for an IT guy. These guys are much more knowledgeable than the squids over at Frys.

Great place to get all your electronic accessories. Now that Radio Shack is just a Sprint store, its the closest place to get electronic hobby supplies you cant find anywhere else locally.
