I have been doing my own tech support and building computers for years, and I have had lots of opportunity to interact with staff in all of the local computer stores (and some far afield), and I have always been impressed by the skill and expertise among the staff at Uni Computers. Recently, I had to seek their assistance when I spilled iced tea on the laptop and fried the keyboard, which I hadnt repaired before. I was most positively impressed, again, by the staffs expertise but also how much information they provide for no charge at all. Their Tech Tuesdays are a great idea to allow users to come in and have a quick, FREE diagnostic assessment. In my case, I was able to get assistance reading the POST (power-on self-test) codes that allowed us to determine the keyboard would need replacement. They removed the keyboard for me and showed me enough that I was able to install the replacement part when it arrived myself, saving a $30 installation fee as well. I dont even know of any other places that will let you watch up close while they work on your computer. I was able to use the laptop with a spare keyboard I had while waiting on the part, so I could confirm for myself that the keyboard was the only problem. They could easily have charged me for the work of removing the keyboard (and the diagnostic help, too, of course), but they seem to have their priorities in the right place and are providing a really excellent quality of service for their customers. Although Ive had sometimes good information from big box or other computer stores when I am a prospective customer, I have to take the advice "at my own risk" really. Uni staff, however, found the correct replacement keyboard for me quickly; Im sure Uni would have replaced at no charge if it were not the correct part, but it is even better to get it right the first time. I used to seek out the big box stores looking for just the cheapest price. I discovered/remembered during this visit that Uni even sells used parts, so I think they go out of their way to be competitive and to provide quality products, parts and service here. Since I do technical support for a living, I am very aware of what constitutes quality customer service, and these folks have it in abundance! I will not fail to seek out Uni Computers for every computing-related need in the future.

Having a laptop that works is essential to my job, as I am the Acting Managing Partner and founder of a CPA firm. I live in Olathe, and have an office nearby in Overland Park (as well as a smaller office in Lawrence). Im know there are many computer repair services located nearby. However, when one of my older laptops was running extremely slow, I drove 30 miles to have UNI fix it. When I walked in, I was promptly greeted (I believe the techs name was Nate). We booted up my laptop, and the UNI tech went over everything he was doing while I was there. The tech was very knowledgeable, courteous and patient. He answered all my (many) questions and then explained the limitations of making this older laptop faster. He recommended more memory, but did not pressure me to buy anything. However, I purchased the memory and the tech installed it (very quickly). Now my laptop runs faster and does not take so long to boot up. I bought a privacy/anti glare screen cover from UNI a few months ago (without even setting foot in UNI), and received it quickly from Lance, the owner. The people at UNI are true computer experts. To lose all my data on my laptop would be devastating, so I am cautious about anyone working on it. However, I trust UNI and they confirmed my trust. To summarize: UNIs knowledge, courteousness, and willingness to go the extra mile for their customers, and excellent service shows they are true experts.

Recently, Will worked on my terribly out-of-date Windows Vista PC for our family. I bought a MiFi through AT & T because where I live there are very few options for internet connectivity. I was having problems getting the MiFi connected so Will installed a WiFi card and checked out the PC to see its overall condition. I recognize the need to purchase a new PC but for what this is used for, I just need acceptable internet connectivity and reliability. Will installed the WiFi card and I tried to get the PC to connect from home to no avail. AT & T recommended I take it back and ask UNI how they connected from the store. I brought the machine back to Will and he patiently and gladly uninstalled the card and worked for nearly 1.5 hours to re install just the drivers. I took it back home and tried to connect again. It worked!! It was a matter of realizing that the ASUS hardware wasnt compatible with the AT & T MiFi. Thanks to Will, weve got a PC that will work for my family and I would really like to thank Will for his hard work even though my PC was frustrating and very, very slow. I definitely appreciate the customer service and will definitely consider future business with UNI due to the experience I had recently.

Recently a malware/virus rendered my computer essentially inoperable. I was facing the prospect of losing all data not externally stored (and having to get another computer). Knowing that I would have to both reinstall Windows 7 regardless, I found UNI Computers, for me a local vendor, to be the only local vendor with Windows 7 in stock. Further consultation with two friends, one a prior UNI Computers customer, prompted me to choose UNI Computers over other prospective vendors I could have taken my computer to. When I did so, I was reassured that my computer was salvageable, and that my data could be retrieved. I was also impressed with the high level of competence of the lead UNI Computer staffer I spoke with, and who performed the required service. The price was less than expected, all my data was saved, the work done on schedule, and now my computer is like new again. The level and quality of service and inside information I received exceeded that of all other vendors I have used in the past. I recommend UNI Computers to all with computer problems, to all who need computer-related advice, and to those considering getting a computer.

I try to stay local but in some cases the business has to stay on par with somewhere near competitive prices for parts and service. It didnt help that I walked in and said hi to someone and He smiled took something from underneath the counter and then turned and walked away. After another guy got off the phone 6 mins later he greeted me. Customer Service is 100% the reason that keeps people coming back. My introduction to UNI was a horrible first impression. I am not a super genius but the front desk help had no where near the knowledge base the you can get from a Micro Center cashier. Looking around I saw they are carrying New Egg power supplies and then adding margin on top. Lack of Knowledge. Taking advantage of customers with high priced parts. Oh and here is the real kicker. I asked before I left about who was the person that first greeted me and I was told it was the owner. Hence the bad review.
