I was shocked to hear that the Executive Director Gina Peterson was no longer there for some unknown reason, I was devastated. She was a joy to see while you were in the center. She would stop what she was doing if you had any questions or concerns about what was going on in the center. She kept her door to her office opened so you could just stop by and say hello. I currently was planning to put my grandchildren into the summer camp because they enjoyed the time that they had while they were there. They would always come home and say what happened throughout their day, the songs they would sing, and how they enjoyed the field trips and games. They did not like the lady by the name of Tammy because all she did was yell and degrade her staff in front of the campers. I personally didnt like that especially how she handled herself in front of the kids. The young man my grandson called Mr. T seemed like he cared for the staff and most importantly the campers. He always answered questions or concerns that I had dealing with the day to day operations of camp. I was told that he left the Y shortly after camp was over. It breaks my heart to have to tell my grandkids that he will not be apart of camp this year. I would not recommend this YMCA to anyone because of the leadership. I actually stopped coming to this YMCA and now go to Trotter YMCA located on Augusta!

My family loves Clay Rd. YMCA. We are also certified to use the equipment. The kids have fun shooting hoops in the gym, and playing volleyball on family nights. My only complaint is the profanity used in the gym when older boys/men are playing basketball. This is a family facility. The contract/agreement states that your membership may be cancelled for such behavior. Adults and older teens should recognize the audience surrounding them and should filter out inappropriate language. I would suggest having signs posted in the gym stating "No Profanity", and perhaps also have someone to occasionally monitor the gym and remind patrons to watch their language. Other than that, we have no other complaints and are perfectly happy with the facility and service at this YMCA location.

I just tried to drop my 16 year son off with his 16 year old friend. They where turned away at the door because his friend doesnt have a membership. What does YMCA stand for? Young Mens Christian Association; established to give young men a place to go. A total loss of mission. We pay $95 a month for a membership and that is a stretch for us but we know that the additional costs we pay is simply a donation to the Y. I have no heart burn over the costs but when a 16 year old is turned away at the door it makes me question what is the purpose of the Y. I can go down the street and pay $10 a month. Very upset this 5th day of July 2016 with the Brenda and John Duncan YMCA.

The John Duncan YMCA has, hands down, the best aquatic facilities of any place in the city of Houston. There is a huge therapeutic pool in which classes are taught, a large lap pool and large hot tub. The locker rooms are spacious and well kept. The only annoyance is that a couple of times when I have arrived, the pool has been closed due to a needed repair with the heater or another problem. But it is usually taken care of with a couple of days and the pool is reopened. Their pool has allowed me to continue physical therapy without the enormous cost of going to a physical therapist facility.

Day camp was horrible for my child and also another mother had the same problem from same bully. Some kids can be so cruel and ugly you gotta wonder where they get it from. My kid was there 2 weeks 3rd week had to take him out. The Bully threatened and made the other kids pick on him and turn on him my son being very timid I had to put my foot down. It might have been a racist thing too i do not know I do know one thing he was running all the Asian and white kids off. I taught my kid to be civil not act like you life on the streets. that is why I had to take him out.

This is a good Y near many, many homes- including mine. I often run into people I know from around Spring Branch, and folks who own businesses up and down Gessner and Longpoint which gives this a good neighborhood feel. Youth sports could be more organized (everywhere on earth) but the coordinator, Ryan is young, and willing to listen. Hes been in the job about as long as the last 2 or 3 coordinators, and while Y sports may never be right for Type A parents, the programming is improving. Decent gym. Neighborhood feel. Good place. (no towels)

Nice pool facility and well heated. Pool staff is friendly but too many safety checks with frequent interuptions. The childcare area is decent but needs some expansion/upgrades. The facility is large and have an outside children play area. Overall, decent with few needed upgrades. Also, there are only few family changing areas so at peak times especially in the sumner there are long waiting lines. Otherwise, this is not a big concern. Overall, this Y ranks high among others in the area and is more family friendly. I rate it 4 stars.

This YMCA is so dirty. There is always hair in the locker rooms, and the chemicals in the pool are way too strong. You can smell them from the parking lot! There are a lot of seniors who use this Y, which is great, unless you have small children who would like to use the pool, because they are always closed for a senior class. We were members for 8 days and then we asked for our money back. Childwatch is a joke. Take your money elsewhere. The one positive was the step instructor - he was always very positive and encouraging.

Prospective members should be aware that the pool policy is that it may close if lightning is present, or if the conditions exist for it to be present. This is my understanding from information on the web. Since these conditions are ambiguous, it is not possible to tell if the pool will be open, or stay open for your swim. How strictly the policy is enforced seems to vary depending on who is the lifeguard.

This place has gone down hill over the past couple of years... Mainly speaking, the pool. Theyve gone through several directors of the pool and the past 2-3 cant get it together. Theyve gotten rid of good employees and this pool is a mess, the slide has been closed for a year, and the only friendliness here comes from the under appreciated lifeguards... Your choice if you want a membership here...
