What do you do when you wake up and your pc doesnt work? no post. no spinning fans. just blotto? I went to altex. And with the assistance of associates Manny and Bruce, I was able to see my glorious machine post and boot once again. Manny fixed whatever problem was plaguing my system, but Im unsure precisely how. This question has been wracking my mind since the visit and the only logical conclusion is that Manny is really a mythologicial creature, like a griffin, or a wizard. No for real, as I remember, he plugged in my machine, removed 2 sticks of ram total (while attempting to boot between each removal) on the second attempt I see my bios screen on the test monitor. how?? my confusion stems from 2 areas. first, i had attempted resetting the ram myself before visiting (down to a single stick) but saw no results. secondly, after my trip to altex (imagine a sad violin here), when I tested my machine back home, the same symptoms had returned! i dont blame the associates for that at all. they demonstrated a working machine at the store but clearly there is more at work here. So Manny the grifzard. if you catch him, hell fix your rig with a single touch (maybe two). After fixing my problems, Brice appeared and offered to take a few minutes to blow out my machine. I graciously accepted as Im terrible about machine upkeep. after the cleaning, we talked rigs for a few and Brice assisted me with a replacement fan for one that had seized up, a new fan that I decided would be beneficial, and a few other odds and ends. Additionally, Brice assisted significantly with my atrocious cable management. So I still have a busted rig, but Altex did a brilliant job showing me that my machine is still completely viable to use. Above and beyond.

I walked in and man there is a lot to this place everything from 2 grand server racks to simple data adapters. I was impressed. I went to the center of the store and an associate greeted me as I walked in less than an hour before they were set to close that Saturday. The guy was honest and I was just looking for a couple items a PC shop vac and some blank DVDs. He stuck with me until I found what I needed and let him know, hey Im just gonna check this place out. If your in a pinch and you need rare things Cat 7 STP, a sever rack, a KVM cable, or even some pretty hot gaming parts they have it, logically organized, in addition to their more mundane items. They are everything Newegg is and Best Buy is not in a brick and mortar store. They had plenty of staff and all kinds of cool stuff at a reasonable price. Bottom line: I would recommend this store to a friend. Its clean and the people there are really nice. I was however dismayed when one employee did not know the difference between a switch(Layer 2) networking device, and a Hub (Layer 1) simple networking device. Although those are rare now days. I needed a hub for Wireshark. But... If your an IT pro for a small to medium business or a "power user"/gamer and something breaks (or the boss calls in and says "we need this" on a weekend), this is the place to go to get it at a good price and in a hurry. And if they dont have it, they can order it. I never asked about onsite delivery, you might want to call on that one but I imagine so. If they dont offer it they should. This is a power house.

The employees are useless. If you are looking for quality info and customer service, avoid this place. The second I walked in, I made eye-contact with two employees that were standing idle (which is common here) and not a single acknowledgement was made towards me. I walked over to the mouse isle, which is more like a 5-foot long shelf with generic, cheap mice scattered throughout, and couldnt find what I was looking for. The variety just isnt there, they sell the same cheap-o-depot crap marketed under different brands. I was about to ask one of those employees I saw earlier for some assistance when I noticed they were still in the middle of their off-topic conversation, who am I to interrupt them? I got frustrated and decided to take my business elsewhere. In-and-out in 3 minutes, entirely dissatisfied.

More expensive than on-line, but if you need it NOW then its still a rip off. I have bought a couple things from there to only realize when I got home I over paid SOMETIMES more then 80%. If you have Amazon prime the store is a rip-off stick to prime and get your stuff Same Day or Next Day. Employees are not knowledgeable, I went in looking for a Wifi-Enabled SD Card asked the 3 guys standing by the graphics cards, They chuckled and continued to tell me they dont exist which they do I use them for my camera all the time.

As with all of the Altex locations, I cant figure out how they stay in business - theres rarely more than 2 other customers in the store. They must do a lot of B2B sales. That said, the staff is always helpful, the prices are tremendous! I have to stop people in the grocery or other stores from buying a $20 USB cord. Here they are priced more in reality, the quality is top notch. Good Job, guys. I couldnt see buying my electrical components (wiring, power supplies, etc) without you being around.

Needed to get a Solder tool but had no experience. The assistant manager Chris (I dont remember his last name) helped and explain how it works and led me to some guides online. The Weller tool I bought malfunctioned and when I went back to return it he went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of. He even answered more questions that I have on soldering. I Will be going back for my electronic needs in the future. Thanks!

Went in to find a USB to SATA cable because I am swapping out my old HDD with a new SSD. Robert helped me out and was very kind and professional. He answered all my questions (and I had a lot of them) and he even taught me some troubleshooting techniques on one of their computers. Great store, reasonable prices (negotiable in my experience!), and great staff.

It is well worth the drive to Austin to Frys Electronics for a much better variety of brands as well as prices! All Altex has is generic and it is high priced generic. And then it is the Policy of generic memory and once it is out the door it is "No return Policy!!!!!" Even Best Buy will let you bring bad memory back, and they sell Brand name memory also!

Came in to purchase a wifi amplifier. The one they had on the shelf was $86. Looked it up on Amazon with my phone and it was only $36. Same thing and everything. I asked if they price-matched. They dont. Bought the item I needed in the parking lot from my phone. Saved $50. Ive heard of mark-up, but that is outrageous!

I come to this location all the time been to others but prefer this one. The staff is very helpful and offered exchanges with no problems. Yes you can find pc components cheaper priced but they do offer a very wide variety of options and as far as the pricing goes they are competitive for the San Antonio area.
