My daughter has been going to Joann Neal for about a year, it was recommended by a friend. On the positive side the classes are a good size, the staff is friendly, and the classes start and end on time. My daughter seems to enjoy it which is why we have continued to enroll her. However, the focus seems to be almost exclusively on the annual dance recital (we just had it yesterday). They spend class time going over the same routine for months; I have no idea how many dance fundamentals they actually learn but it appears to be not many. The younger kids do dances that are mostly choreography where they use their hands and look cute. The costumes - which you buy through the studio - are adorable and the kids look so cute in the recital - but that is pretty much the focus. If you want some adorable childhood photos of your daughter in a beautiful tutu -sign her up. If you want them to learn dance then I am not so sure.... We are disenrolling and going to start gymnastics.

I really enjoyed Joann Neals dance studio. Never had any problems . very family friendly . Never had an issue when I paid a few days late. young ladies where always very patient with my child. End of the year performance was great (DVD) rather pricey. I really wish there was something I could do about the diversity aspect of it. My daughter was told she one time that they where not going to play RING AROUND THE ROSY with her because she was BROWN (she s African American) the only one in her class;-( . I really don t know how to help with the diversity except telling everyone I know to sign up there its very nice and mind you that statement was made by a 4 year old. Maybe if it was income based it would bring in more diversity but right now it seems like it will have to do because there is so many more PRO s than CONS .I wish the where open Fridays

Weve had our daughter enrolled here for the last 5 years. Shes now in 3rd grade. For the reviewer below that had concerns over whether they learn dance, the answer is absolutely. Yes, the recital is the focus, but it is the result of the steps and moves theyve learned all year. Costumes are always tasteful and beautiful, the teachers are sweet, and I couldnt ask for a better person to take over JoAnns studio than one of her own teachers. It is now Dance Infinity and no longer JoAnn Neal. The only negative is, we went from performing at the lovely Lila Cockrell Theater downtown, to a high school performing arts center in an extremely undesirable area. Its the only thing Id change, but its not a deal breaker considering how great the school is.
