My daughter and my niece were previously going to KinderCare West Jordan. When the center was closed we scrambled to find a comparable Day Care we could take the girls. We chose Smart Kids because the center seemed clean and friendly and it was advertised as a bilingual center. It quickly became apparent that our needs were not being met to our satisfaction. My daughter was in the three-year-old classroom. I will say that we were happy with her morning teacher. She is a very sweet woman, who was actually bilingual and actually seemed to care about my child and the other children in her care based off my experiences with her. However, when the shift-change happened I do not believe any of the children in that room were getting the attention they deserved. My daughter came home with bite marks on her arm two days in a row. There was no incident report and when we asked the teachers and the director about them no one was able to tell us anything about them. On another incident I witnessed a child in her class smashing another little girls fingers with a cup at the snack table. The girl was crying and asking the boy to stop and the teachers were talking with each other and completely oblivious. I hesitated to reprimand a child who was not my own but as the little girl was obviously upset I addressed the other child and said, "sweetie, I dont think you should smash her fingers like that. That isnt very nice." Upon hearing my reprimand the teachers finally came over to see what was happening. Also, my daughter was potty-trained when she started at the center. Of course during any great upheaval in a three-year-olds life we expected she might have a bit of a relapse so we provided the center with plenty extra pair of underwear in the event of an accident. I do not believe they were helping her with her potty training as she kept coming home in pull-ups even when she had extra underwear she could be changed into. My niece was in the infant room. None of the teachers in that room speak English. They know a few words in English, but they cannot hold a conversation in English. We are all for our children learning other languages but we need to be able to communicate to our childrens care providers and the language block was a huge issue. If a center is advertised as bilingual there should be a teacher in each classroom that can actually communicate in both English and the other advertised language, in this case Spanish. My sister may create her own review to elaborate on this issue. Another problem we had was that the children were being taken outside of the center and were being taken on walks along 62nd. This was being done without our knowledge or permission. They have an outdoor play center so we are not sure why they felt the need to take the children out along a busy street, especially without express permission from their parents. Overall, I am very disappointed with the performance at this center. We felt we gave the center sufficient time to address our issues but we pulled the girls after being there for only 3 weeks.

Our experience here was AWFUL. My oldest son had so many issues we had him put in a special program for his behavior, later finding out that it was just this center. As soon as we moved him his "behavior problems" fixed themselves within a week! In addition, the reason we finally stopped taking our children there is because a teacher dropped scolding hot coffee on my younger son burning him so badly he blistered and had to see a doctor for treatment. The staff didnt even call to inform me of the accident. I found out when picking him up and finding his chest covered in blisters. I know mistake happen so we remained there for 2 more weeks until I was picking up my son and saw it almost happen AGAIN!! I guess burning a child that bad isnt lesson enough to keep scolding hot coffee out of a 2 year old room at a day care. Terrible experience. I wish we would have talked to more people before going there as we later heard horrible things about the director and a few teachers!

Good staff, ok cleanliness (Review based off complete facility located at 3900S 200E and inparticular the infant section): Pros: Affectionate and caring staff --- Economical rates --- Open until 6:30pm--- Large rooms, plenty of play material for kids--- Multicultural kids and staff is good for children in a state like Utah--- Cons: There are more places that are cleaner than this one. Its not shabby but its not spotless clean either. However when it comes to the teachers there is no comparison. all the kids are at home. Katia, the director is wonderful and helpful. Akram runs the infant section and its her care and affection for our daughter that got us hooked to this daycare. Kids are going to fall sick either ways in a daycare, but its good know know they are in good hands while you are away.

Ive been taking my 5 yr old since he was 2 (SLC location) and I loved how he felt so comfortable. I started to take my youngest since he was 5months infant and Akram care taker for the infants is the best I love her and I was saddened when my boy had to move to the toddler room. She handles and cares for your child so well they also love her too! Ms.jenny preschool teacher is really nice and love how she interacts with the kids. Some of the new staff is not all that great lately, they wont tell you much about your child unless you ask. Norma, she runs the daycare and she is really helpful when you have concerns. All in all I like that my kids are happy there:)

I am very sorry about your bad experience at our center. We care a lot about our children and their parents. I wish you would have told me those issues personally before you left, but in any moment you mentioned them to me, you gave me a different reason. Unfortunately I can’t help my clients if they don’t come to me with their concerns. The baby room teachers even though their English is limited, they do an excellent job. Thank you for your review, this will help us improve and offer a better service.

Hi Mandi I am the director at Smart Kids Taylorsville, there has been a misunderstanding, the bad experience you had at Express Learning Academy has nothing to do with my center. Smart Kids Child Care took over Express Learning Centers three years ago . Its now under a new owner and a new management. You have never been a client of Smart Kids in Taylorsville, my clients are very satisfied with our service and its a shame that you are trying to discredit our center.
