I hadnt found a good hair place nearby and had only gotten a horrible cut at the "Hair Cuttery" down the street. I vowed not to get a bad haircut again, so I did some research and came across some reviews on Yelp about a "TLC Hair Salon" on King Street. The prices were very reasonable and they had good reviews, so I gave them a shot. I literally had the best haircut experience Ive ever had. For a mens standard cut at $20, I received what felt like a $100 haircut. Ms. Young, the owner, meticulously worked on my hair for an hour and she revisited each area multiple times until it was perfect. Ms. Young isnt a hair dresser, shes an artist. In addition, she did a straight razor on the back and sides complete with hot towel and a vigorous shampoo and rinse afterward. I wholeheartedly recommend this place and encourage you to visit it, as they are new and such fine businesses need to be supported as they make a name for themselves. Ask for Ms. Young for mens or womens cuts and I guarantee you will have a good experience.

I had been searching for a new barber/stylist a little closer to where I live for a few months and after trying another place with less than satisfactory results I stumbled upon TLC while walking to my office. I read a few reviews and decided to try it out. Service was great - hands down. The ladies enjoy chatting, which didnt bother me a bit - Young is a very funny woman with a great sense of humor but I was lucky enough to get Youngs assistant. She is extremely detail oriented, very efficient and knows what shes doing. Im very apprehensive about who cuts my hair, but she put me at ease almost immediately. For less than the price of where I used to go for a simple haircut/shampoo/condition I got all of that and more. Very pleased with TLC - my search is over.

Tried it three times. First ok. Second ok, but not really pleased. Third time Young refused to listen to what I wanted-she basically told me to shut up and I just cut hair. Note, I have an extremely basic hair style, nothing complicated. A walk in arrived and I could tell Young started to really rush to finish up my haircut-in hindsight, explains why the resulting haircut seemed half finished. Had to go to another barber shop the next day to get haircut fixed because it was so uneven/lopsided. Before I said anything, the barber at second shop laughed at it. I told him I just got it cut the day prior and he gasped, "No way you got that here!" I assured him I did not. Think that says it all.

I love going to get my hair cut with Ms. Young. I had gotten so sick of bad haircuts I started cutting my own with my clippers until my girlfriend made me try this place out. She does an incredibly thorough job with the cut and you get a shampoo, straight razor on the neck line, and a hot towel at the end. I would pay 50 dollars for such a cut and for 25 it's more than a bargain. To the guy who gave it one star- be more specific to the hairdresser next time idiot, just because she can't read your mind doesn't mean you get to bash her online. Pansy. Ms. Young = Best in town

Beware that Young will bump appointments for walk ins. So even if you have an appointment, you may be in for quite a wait if you come in the evening or on a weekend. I have been to this place 5 or 6 times. The last two, Ive been asked to wait 40 and then 90 minutes. A wait of 10 or 15 minutes may be reasonable as previous customers may have arrived late. But consistently getting bumped for walk ins wastes too much time.

When I first started going here, I loved this place. I came here every 3 weeks for about a 3 months or so. However, when the other Korean lady who usually worked on my hair quit (without my knowledge), I came in for my regular appointment, and was told (by the owner) that she didnt know how to cut my short hair. She said she wasnt good at it, and so she sent me home that night, despite my having an appointment.

I have been getting my hair done here since early 2012 and had a lot of trouble finding someone before that. I moved out of Old Town into DC and still make the trip back to see Ms. Young. She makes herself available on short-notice - many times can make an appointment the same day. She will give you the full half-hour time slot, whether or not your haircut requires it.

The owner Young is great, best hair cut and razor shave on neck ever for the price. She wants to please and is detailed oriented, single blade razor for neck, trim eyebrows and exact hair cut. Appointments are necessary and if you have to wait a few minutes, well worth it. I have been going to her since 2009 and could not imagine getting my hair cut anywhere else.

My husband and I have been going to TLC Salon for almost a year now. I see Phillip for highlights a cut (photo attached!) and he has his hair done every four weeks by Nancy. The care and the attention we receive every time we walk through that door, makes us love our salon visits. The way we look when we walk out that same door makes us feel like a million bucks!

Im usually the type of person who doesnt know exactly what they want done with their hair so my usual reaction is either "eh, its okay" or "ugh, hate it". However, with the cut and blow dry i absolutely LOVE how it turned out!! The only bad thing is that now I have to learn how to style my hair so I can replicate the beautiful layers and feathery bounce

Probably the worst haircut Ive ever had. After soaking my entire head with a spray bottle (to the point that my collar was soaked from all the dripping water), she proceeded to cut all my hair off. Im not exaggerating--almost all of it. She interpreted "short trim" to mean "make me look like an army recruit." Never go here if you want a decent haircut.

Ive gotten good hair cuts here (been twice now). I feel that no stylist is going to knock it out of the park on the first couple of cuts because they are leaning your style but Ive been happy with both of my cuts. They listen and take direction well. Im going back for sure.

Ive never had a good haircut experience until TLC Hair Salon! Warm Towel, Straight Razor, sideburn trim....the complimentary services that go in with a haircut here are outstanding! Ask for Sue, shes real cute too!
