Expensive. This placed was recommended to me by a friend of mine. I was really nervous to get my hair done, I am really picky and have had some bad experiences since moving here in August. My friend who recommended it also is the same way. I booked my appointment with Rebecca. I got my color and hair cut there. APPEARANCE: I do think for the money you spend here, the salon could be a little bigger and maybe nicer. The hair wash stations were probably one of the more uncomfortable ones I have experienced. It was really crowded with people everywhere. But it was kept VERY clean and tidy. As stated, someone was always sweeping and restocking, making coffees/teas for customers. COLOR: It was applied fast (which I like, I dont want to sit in a salon for hours) and minus the space being so small and busy, there was no problem. I do think it would be nicer if they were bigger, but I came in at prime-time and it was packed. She did a greatL job selecting my color and putting in slight highlights. I have been REALLY happy with my hair! ***I DO have to say, however, they do single processes very weird. I have been dying my hair for years now and I have never been to a place where they just do the roots and dont pull it through at all. Ever. My hair is dull and dry, when I dye it, it changes the texture of my hair and makes it shiny. I asked if this could be done and they did something that charged me an extra 30 bucks!!! That puts a "single process" up to 90 dollars. WAY too much money. CUT: She did well. She LISTENED! which is so important. She did everything I wanted, but with her own knowledge behind it to make my hair fabulous! CHECK OUT: I was surprised when I came to the counter, it was more expensive then I thought it would be. I usually never speak up about things like this, but I asked my stylist about the price before we got started and said I really wanted to keep it under 200....so I was surprised when it was rung up 200. Roxanne and Rebecca quickly fixed the problem and went with the price quoted. They were VERY professional about handling this and apologetic. I was really surprised with how friendly and accommodating they were about the misunderstanding. I do believe this was a 100% honest mistake and it wasnt a scheme to over-charger, rather a miscommunication between my stylist and myself. I actually felt really embarrassed about the whole thing, but it says a lot about the salon that they were willing to fix it so quickly and easily.

Yesterday I got my hair done by the fabulous Kayla. Im new to the area, & completely new to the Virginia/D.C. area as a whole. I had gone to the same lady for 6 years so you can imagine the stress it causes trying to find somewhere new. My husband being in the military, we got moved here knowing no one but males with little to no hair.. & with only being here a month, I didnt have anyone to contact about where to get my hair done around here, so I looked up reviews. Illusions had pretty good reviews so I decided.. Why not try them out. I was super nervous, but Kayla was super nice and made it easier to relax. When I had set up my appointment no one asked me what I wanted done so I figured theyd just talk to me about it when I got there, well, luckily Kayla did have the time to do my hair or I wouldve been out of luck! I wanted a more platinum look and we all know platinum takes time. Ms. Kayla went above & beyond all expectations. Her service was wonderful, my hair looks flawless. Yes, I was in there from 4-8:30pm (because platinum takes time) but it was so worth it! I am beyond satisfied. Also, my shampooing was to die for, the staff around her was more than helpful & helped assist her in drying my hair, (I have a ton of hair) so that we could both get out of there at a decent time. Throughout my time being there I was also offered drinks occasionally, & they made sure I was comfortable whether I was reclined in the shampoo bowl or sitting down somewhere. I will be back for other hair or any other services! They also have varieties of hair care products to meet any needs & I went home with anything/everything I could get! Thank you so much Illusions of Shirlngton staff, you all are so wonderful! I have been raving about my experience since I walked out the door!

The reviewer below must need glasses, are you sure this is the salon in shirlington that you visited. I happen to frequent Illusions and have always had a positive experience, Staff is always welcoming and if they are new or dont have the answer to a question they always ask someone who does. It also happens to be one of the cleanest salons I have ever visited. Ive never seen any part of the salon in disarray. Someone is always busy sweeping - wiping - rearranging. No lazy employees there. I also purchase cosmetics at Illusions, they carry a skincare line used by may demeratoligist and plastic surgeons that is actually good for your skin. Never was disgusted by the condition of the makeup display and have always found applicators to try the new products. All in All, my sun, my moon and all my planets align perfectly with Illusions

I went to the one in Shirlington a good ten years ago and it was the worst experience ever. It was 40 minutes past my appointment time and I asked the person at the desk how much longer it would be. The hair stylist who I had gone to one time before looked over at me and said loudly "where do YOU have to go that is so important." So I turned and walked out. At my first appointment, they were trying too hard to act hip and had drinks in one hand and were cutting my hair with the other. I worried about losing an ear. It was xmas time but that was not an excuse for the drinking. Some of the women who work there are always standing outside the salon smoking. They look out of place in Shirlington. Zero class. I would take a bad 10 dollar hair cut at the hair cuttery over that place. I go to PR @ Partners. Very professional.

Went in for just a hair cut today. I told the stylist that my only stipulation is that my hair be shoulder length, long enough so I can pull my hair back in a low ponytail. I proof a lot of hard copy documents and I have a 4 month old who has started to pull my hair so it was very important to me that I be able to pull it out of the way. The stylist suggested a long bob and I said sounds good. Towards the end, before I realized what he was doing, he cut in long bangs without asking me. Now my haircut is utterly useless. If I try to pull back my hair, either my bangs fall out or the hair at the back of my neck comes loose. Im so angry because it takes forever to grow out bangs. On top of that, they charged $75 dollars, which I find to be way overpriced. Hair is cute but not what I wanted.
