Very poor management. I may not have been a high dollar client but I had been going here for over 12yrs for services of 90min massages, several prenatal massages, my Wedding party styling, haircuts and numerous gift certificate purchases. After moving to a different county I have not been able to go very often in the last few years. Last year I booked a couples massage for my husbands and my 10th Anniversary. As usual we got into our robes and waited in the spa waiting room for our therapists. My husband was brought back to a room while I stayed seated. He looked back at me and I just shrugged my shoulders assuming a therapist would come for me next. Unfortunately that did not happen and after 15min. I went to the front desk on the verge of tears in my ROBE and inquired calmly why I had not been taken back with my husband. Once they realized their mistake they escorted me back to the spa room and said someone would be with me ASAP. Outside the door I could hear them arguing about what to do and who dropped the ball. I ended up getting a massage by myself and 20% off the service and a promise of a complimentary couples massage when we came back next. Even though I felt our anniversary was ruined I accepted the offer and remained pleasant toward the staff as I understand mistakes happen. They seemed truly sorry and I thought a redo was generous of them. Well..I went to book this makeup massage this week and was told via a receptionist since it was over a year (14months) they could not do anything. My husband and I both work and have children so we do not have a lot of free time and this was the first time in months we could get away together. The management did not even have the respect to call me themselves! They made the receptionist break the news to me. As long as they are in business they could have done something about it! They just chose not to. Sad in Loudoun

Hair - I have been going to Shapes for about 10 years and Jesus is my hair-guy. LOVE him, but because he is so good, it can be challenging to get an appointment if you dont plan ahead. I have thick, challenging hair and every time I walk out of Shapes, I get a ton of compliments. The color and cut are are fantastic. High recommendation on Jesus. Hair assistant - Darlyn is also amazing. She is a pleasure and does a great job getting all of the color out of my thick hair. Anyone who knows what its like to have color all over your towels at home understands how important that is. Great scalp massage too. Massage - I have only had one massage at Shapes, but I thought the spa was quite nice. I braved my first massage because I had a knot in my shoulder that was painful and would not go away. After an hour on the table, the knot was easing up and by the next day the pain was almost gone. I have also purchases massage for my guy and friends...no complaints to date. Pedicure - this is one area I wouldnt recommend. I have a great little place closer to home that gives a great leg and foot massage along with the pedicure and is MUCH more affordable. I received the same feedback from a friend whom I bought a gift certificate for. Overall - well, if I wasnt happy at Shapes, I wouldnt continue going for 10 years. I think that says a it all.

Ive been a customer for 19 years. I know, that dates me, but people think I am 15 years younger than my actual age, I owe that to my Sr. Stylist Julie! I would say they are average price for a Salon of their experience levels. They have Jr. and Sr. Stylists so you can get lower price if you book a Jr. Stylist. You get what you pay for with a Sr. Stylist. I have a lot of grey for a <50 year old, so I go every 5 weeks for root touch up, and highlights twice a year. Despite the color every 5 weeks, my hair looks very heathly because they use great products. My stylist does not push me to try things im not comfortable with, but does make recommendations that fit my age and face and looks good on me. She also understands how straight hair shows every imperfection and undertands that having calics does not make for good bangs....things that a cheaper salon would not pay attention to, they just dont have the experience. The Spa is small but solid in atmosphere and experience. I have had several massages, pedicures over the years, I think they do a good job of delivering similar massage experience of The Hershey Spa (Herhsey PA), the Nemacolin Spa (Outside of Pittsburg PA), and was better than my experience at the Kingmill Spa in Williamsburg VA.

I booked an appointment to get a haircut (boy cut, about 20-25 dollars) at Shapes and I have to say I am incredibly impressed. The decor is adorable and all the employees are very friendly. When you first walk in they offer you something to drink. My stylist was Jina and she was incredibly attentive and was very patient when I was describing what kind of cut I wanted and she even pulled up a photo book of references to make sure she knew exactly what I wanted. The barbers I previously went to rushed everything, I never got to describe what I needed. Within the cut process they also wash your hair and give you to option to put product in it. The end result looks fantastic and Im very happy with my hair, Ill be going there for my cuts from now on. Also, the base price for a boy cut is only four dollars more than the rushed barbershop I used to go to.

I give Shapes 5 stars -- but the system is showing it -- I orginally tried out Shapes, having just moving to the DC area 5 years go, because it was close to me. I had no idea what a great salon it would be. Ive used every service they offer at what time or another, taken friends there who were visiting from out of town for everything from a cut,to complex color work. Its always nerve racking taking friends - but my friend who got some color work redone was eccstatic with the results. Major props to Jesus, Lisa, and Mia - who I visit regularly for hair, nails and waxing respectively. Favorite service: Mani/Pedi Ultimate spa - I get compliments on my maicure all time. Jesus - you always do a great job on my highlights. I can relx when I am in your chair.

Ive been going to Shapes for haricuts and color for over ten years. I get a great cut and color, and am treated well. My hairdresser does take awhile to apply the color as he frequently does other customers, but the job he does is excellent, so I am willing to wait. Im always treated politely and rarely wait for the appointment, am always offered a glass of water or hot tea. Years ago I got a bad haircut, but that guy didnt last long there! I dont get the complainers...its a great place. I guess we just need to hear from all of their customers who DO leave happy and return. I go out of my way to drive to this salon, skipping by closer, more convenient places.
