My daughter booked both of us hair appointments for trial "up-dos" for her wedding, which is coming up in June. We were greeted by the owners and felt comfortable and at ease right away. The contemporary salon is well lit and the station chairs were comfortable. The stylists were professional and I truly appreciated this, as I do not like to have to hear a persons personal problems when I am paying for a luxurious treatment. I note this because the energy the owners and stylists exuded was positive, encouraging, genuine and healing. They listened to my concerns about my style issues and were skillful in creating a very personal attractive look for my own hair and my daughters hair AND makeup. The last thing I want, when I go for hair, nails or a spa service, like a massage, is to hear the service persons issues and personal problems. They were polite and very professional. I think ANY mother of the bride would love this, as she already has so many things to think about the day of the wedding! The salon will be doing hair and makeup for all our bridesmaids the day of the wedding. I am relieved that the experience will be positive! NO worries! My stylist listened to my concerns and I felt comfortable and pampered while she cut my hair. She was thoughtful and talented, I trusted her implicitly when she cut more hair than I thought she would and she made me look 20 years younger! LOL What an absolutely positive and professional environment in which to be treated so well. The wedding party will be staying in a bed and breakfast a couple blocks from the salon....what could be better for a Charlottesville June wedding. My daughter made a great choice in picking The Cutting Edge! See you all on June 7! Thank you for being genuinely positive! You shine!

I recently moved to Charlottesville and was looking for a reputable salon that would do good work and wasnt overrun by undergraduate students (no offense!). I google searched for "best salons in Charlottesville" and The Cutting Edge was among the few that came up. Reviews were generally very positive for most salons in the downtown area, so I called a few to make appointments. The first two places had over a month wait until the next appointment (sigh), so I called The Cutting Edge. They were able to book me within the week (yay). I was set up with Anna for highlights and a cut. I arrived to a very clean and cute salon; was greeted and immediately tended to. Anna was GREAT! She may be the best stylist I have had because: 1. She was very professional, yet kind and easy to talk to, 2. She took her time and did an amazing job on my highlights, and 3. Really listened to me and asked important questions about what I wanted for my hair style. Overall I had a great experience and I will definitely be going back for my next appointment. If I had to give one negative about my experience (which there really wasnt anything major) I would be the parking situation. I wasnt sure where to park, but ended up parking in the parallel spots out front. However, if I come next time and they are full, I wont be sure where to park. But really, that didnt contribute at all to my experience in the actual salon.

First time at Cutting Edge last week as I had to find a new stylist. Just went for a cut and style to try out this salon and had a great experience. I have VERY thick and naturally wavy hair down below my collar bone which has challenged many stylists before (was not looking forward to doing the exhaustive search again for some one who understands thick hair). Luckily, I dont have to look further! Not only was the price very reasonable, owner Anna was my stylist and really listened to what I wanted as well as paid attention to what had been done previously to my hair to make sure she followed a similar cut (per my request). She kept me informed of what she was doing along the way and why, and made suggestions of how to cut my hair differently so it laid right. She also trimmed and framed when dried so she could see exactly how it laid. The whole experience was pleasant, comfortable, and the ladies were friendly. The location is great (easy parking on Dice) and the shop has so much natural light that you get to see how your hair will actually look outside (important especially for doing color). I love my hairstyle, the employees, and am definitely going back to do some color (check out the balayage)!

I am new to the Charlottesville area and delayed getting a haircut, not sure where to go. Researched quite a few salons - I have naturally curly hair and am often disappointed w/stylists who think they can cut it. The Cutting Edge sounded reasonable, good location, close to Downtown Mall, and not knowing there were closed. I called on a Thursday to inquire about stylists, I think the owner called me back the same day, talked about services and recommended stylist, Jayme. I was reassured and made appointment. Jamie is friendly and takes time to listen and answer questions. She did what I asked exactly, and I like my hair cut - will definitely return and recommend Jayme to family & friends. Reasonable rates, no product push, comfortable, clean salon.. BTW, easy to find, close to Downtown Mall and learned that there is parking available for The Cutting Edge clients at market next door. I parked at Staples across the street and down one block.. just a short walk.

The salon indicates that it can specializes in wavy hair. I hate to write a bad review but the stylist, Jordan, was so obviously uninterested and, regrettably, unskilled that I felt I needed to say something. I asked in my appointment request fro other stylists mentioned in the reviews but was given Jordan. She heard me out and then proceeded to do blunt cut on coarse wavy hair with short bangs. It looks like a wig. I described in some detail how good haircuts in the past had been done, showed her a picture, and (curiously) she did the opposite. I wish I had not gone or perhaps interrupted her to say "use the scissors at an angle please" . She was pretty bored by the whole thing. It was inexpensive but I actually did not do my research on the salon for price. I was looking for someone who could do wavy hair. Sigh - guess I will wait the 6 weeks and try again elsewhere. Dont go to this salon if you have wavy hair.

My mom and I came in for a trial run of bridal hair and makeup, and Anna and Hope made us feel like princesses! Anna took so much time to talk me through the process knowing that I wasnt familiar with bridal hair styles or makeup options. She really made me feel completely comfortable and I trusted her from the very start. I am SO excited to bring my VERY LARGE (12...yikes!) bridal party back in June so they can work their magic on all my best friends! Highly recommend this salon to anyone in the area looking for a little pampering and a stylist who really seems to be passionate for what he/she does.

Ive always been uneasy about haircuts. Until coming here, I had not experienced a single good haircut in Charlottesville. Mike and the rest of the staff really know what theyre doing. Even after the first visit, you feel like they really care. They take notes on your haircut for future reference, as well, providing pretty much the best experience possible. Im going to miss this place when I move away from Charlottesville. Will be timing my haircuts accordingly with visits to Charlottesville so that I can go back.
