This has been my second time coming here - both times with Melodie. Both times, she did a wonderful job and she was super sweet. I came to her because I kept having horrible experiences at those chain hair salons. I decided that paying for a cheap haircut was really not worth it. During my first visit with Melodie, I explained that the previous hair salon had cut my bangs WAY too short; they were now above my eyebrows! I was so devastated and had no idea how to make this work. I decided to give Brush Strokes a shot. Although I could do nothing but let my bangs grow, Melodie cut and styled my hair in the best way to compliment my bangs. The result was a Taylor Swift-style and turned out to be a nice change once my bangs grew out a few more inches. My second time was last week. I hadnt seen her in awhile because I moved about 25 minutes away and thought I could find somewhere closer. I made the same mistake of going to another chain salon. This time, however, she cut my hair much shorter than I asked. I told her I was trying to grow my hair out and that I just wanted a trim, but she didnt listen. It made me sad to see the all that hair go. After that, I waited about 4 months before getting my haircut, but this time I went back to Melodie at Brush Strokes. What made me like her even more was that she remembered me. I told her my story and she knew I was a bit hesitant about getting my haircut again. But she took great care of my hair. She cut only 1/8 of an inch, as I had asked, and gave me beautiful long layers. I already have my next appointment scheduled with her and dont EVER intend on going back to those chain salons. To me, its totally worth the drive and a little more money to not have to go through those terrible experiences again. Thank you, Melodie!

My first visit was great. I am tired of coloring my hair but was unsure of what to do in the meantime. I felt sure that a new salon would try to steer me towards expensive upkeep. Not Mary at Brush Strokes! She accepted my low maintenance lifestyle and recommended that I let my hair grow out a bit for now -- perhaps using some semi permanent color in the future to let things go back gradually. I was impressed at her great suggestions and her recommendation that I not do anything right away. Instead, she gave me a cut that I just love and that looks great even when I style it on my own. Im so happy to find a friendly, professional, honest stylist and salon right here in Herndon.

I strongly recommend Mary! I have short hair and tricky highlights and possibly picky as to how my hair is done:) I just moved to VA about 1 year ago and have not been able to find anyone to color and cut my hair the way I was accustomed. Mary was able to figure my color and cut out in one appointment. I was impressed! Mary definitely is in the right profession and knows what she is doing. The number one thing is Mary listens. Very Bad Servive - I asked for black hair dye natural to my original color and Melodie my stylist covered my upper forehead with the dye. Sitting there i knew something was right about it. Coming home immediately i noticed the dye seemed permanent now i trying to get it corrected. Also they insist on offering a tip. I did not feel deserving to offer the tip. I will not go back.

What a great salon! Went in with a bad haircut problem and Mary was so wonderful!!! She really did her best to fix my hair (and actually made it look pretty decent, which is saying something)... I would recommend this place to everyone I know!!! Not too badly priced either... a good find in the Reston/Herndon area!!!

Ive gone twice now for hair color/highlights and Mary does an excellent job. The price is fair, parking is easy and everyone is so friendly. Its a very relaxing salon in a cute old house in the heart of Herndon. Love it!
