The facilities are more or less fine. Not as clean and convenient as I want them to be, but, you know, its not LA sports club at the Ritz Carlton. But the staff is horrible. Plain horrible. It was horrible 2 years ago when I just moved to the area and decided to try the gym using my Living Social coupon. Its still horrible today. Two years ago I got one coupon for myself, and my husband got me another one. They didnt let me use both. Although there were no restrictions stated. I said ok. Rules are rules. We lost some money but ok. The woman who was signing me up was rude, when I asked about promotions going on, the replied: "you should come back when you are done with your monthly pass and then well talk about promotions". There are ways to say things. She said it in a very rude tone. Then they didnt give me personal training session which was included in the Living Social. Also, there was no tour around the facilities. Which I believe is customary when youre signing up a new member. I decided to talk to the manager and ask about the personal training session. Because, you know, I paid for it too. I asked the front desk to bring the manager. Another staff member gave me annoyed look and asked to wait in the lobby. I waited for 45 mins. Then I came back and asked where the manager was. I couldnt wait forever. She looked annoyed again and asked: "You wanted something?" Are you kidding me??? I was super mad because I waited for 45mins and they just ignored my request. I asked to bring the manager immediately. Manager came, didnt introduce himself, until I asked what his name was. I said I had Living Social and was supposed to get my personal training session. I mentioned that they didnt show me around the facilities, which I believed was customary. He replied: "We dont usually do such things for Living Social customers". Great. Anyway, I finally got my personal training session. The session itself was fine, no complains. My husband, who was and is still a member, complained to someone there, and they accepted my other coupon, which he got for me before. I made my peace with the overall experience. Just decided that I didnt want to join. Fast forward two years later my husband tells me there is a family day at the gym. There would be food and drinks and kids can run around and play, and there would be some activities. Having nothing else to do on a Saturday morning, we came to the gym. There was some coffee at the entrance, and two sad toys no one was playing with. There were no families around. I guess our expectations were high? We decided to look at the kids zone, hoping that that would be at least some fun. My husband showed his members pass, and then the staff asked me to sign in because I was not a member. I said sure. I signed in and began to walk towards the kids zone, holding my child in my arms, when someone from the staff yelled in my back: "wait Maam, do you live in the area?" I answered: "Mmm, yes I do". Again, wanted to proceed to the kids zone, because I came to participate in a family day that they advertised, not to chat with the staff. The guy said : "no, before you go in you should come with us to the back room and we have to ask you some questions". What the hell did that mean? Did I come to an interrogation? Its a family day!! I said - you know what, I dont have time for this. Bye. And we left. Funny because on my way there I was telling my husband that given my experience 2 years ago I highly doubt there would be anything to enjoy. And voila. I live in the area but will never join this place. Too bad because there arent many big gyms around. But Id rather go further away to a better place.

(UPDATE:) Now under the umbrella of "Sport and Health" these thieves WILL continuously bill you after you cancel your membership. I prepaid for a year and was told I would not have the obligation to stay after my year was done, "Here Ill even write that in the computer"...but the wording in the contract is deceptive, and even though I changed my credit card, they continued to bill me after my year was up... My friend who is also a gym rat had the same exact experience with these thieves. STAY AWAY (Here was my original post:) The size of the gym, and amount and variation of equipment are its strongest attributes. (hardly ever have to wait for equipment). The locker rooms, showers, and towel service are good to be right up there as far as cleanliness, and convenience. ...(Then why 3 stars you ask?) The inconvenient thing about the gym are the hours... especially on the weekend. Given how nice the gym is, it absolutely boggles my mind that they close at 7:30 (thats right, 7:30) on Saturday and Sunday. (Although the hours say they close at 8:00 on Sat. and Sun.), I made the mistake of showing up for a quick workout at 7:30, and they told me the gym was already closed.(I can always 86 the shower and take one at home, but closing the gym at 7:30 seems silly). Another time, I was in the middle of a cardio workout and they just turned the lights off...at 7:30... I looked around and counted 19 other people working out and they turned the lights out... I couldnt believe it, no warning, no nothing. Seems like the employees wanna get the hell outta dodge, but it really throws you off trying to finish off your workout in the dark.(I cant imagine a more rude way of telling someone to leave...imagine if they did that at a local restaurant while you were in the middle of eating with your family). The only other issue I would say is that, during peak hours, it gets a little cramped in the free-weights section, Id maybe consider tighting up the aisles around the machines to give the free-weights section a little breathing room (this is a minor annoyance) Heck just fix the hours, and you got yourself a 5 star gym.

Im no fitness connoisseur, but I recognize good people and service when its in front of me. Having recently moved back to the area post graduation, I wanted to begin a plan to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Its a very simple concept with many ways of achieving said goal. I had my initial consultation with Dan, a representative and manager at the club, who gave a tour of the facilities, gave explanations of how they maintain and run the club, and answered all of my questions. He was very in-tune with how I was making efforts to change. He recommended a membership package - I signed on spot. I was already very impressed with the facilities and staff. With this membership came a free, 1-hour consultation with Director and Personal Trainer Debbie C. She, too, gets to know you more in-depth in an effort to pair you with a personal trainer who can further help you. I decided to take the TnT route; a fast-paced class that intertwines cardio and strengthening practices as one. It is currently led by Tyler who is very knowledgable and encouraging through the program. In addition to the TnT program, I have continued working with Debbie. Her enthusiasm and positivity is unsurpassed in the personal training world, in my opinion. Her devotion to my achievement is just a strong as my own, and I am so thankful to feel as if Im a part of this team. She has been an incredible catalyst for my fitness journey and I am glad to continue working with her. Aside from the training aspects of this club, it is comforting to know that the staff are working with YOUR best interests in mind. It is a great environment. If you are reading this, please consider this top-tier club an option for your fitness goals. I cannot say enough good words about this club. I am well on my way to achieving my goal and continuing to be a patron at Worldgate Sport & Health.
