Best value gym in the area and its not close. Ive been to a bunch of them--Reston Sport and Health, Planet Fitness--you name it Ive been there. The Why: Price - 10 dollars a month. No contract. Weights - I swore off ten dollar gyms because all they were offering were machine weights. While FE does have quite a bunch of these, they also have a dedicated free weight section. I was SHOCKED to see it. Seriously to have access to all what youd want from free weights -- incline, decline, straight bench, squat rack, deadlifts--its unbelievable the value. Crowds - Occasional crowds at peak hours. If you expect to get there at 8pm on a Monday then youll be waiting for some free weights. Anytime on the weekends or between 5-7pm on weekdays youre going to have access to whatever you want. YMMV. Easily the best crowds Ive seen at a gym though. Ive never waited significant amounts of time for lifts at FE. Technology - Honestly how many times do you go to a gym and jump on the treadmill only to find that youre stuck watching either ESPN or news channels? Im watching TNT games here. Im watching on demand films. Im able to go downstairs into their MOVIE THEATER and enjoy a friggin movie while Im getting cardio in. Staff - Solid. No complaints. Atmosphere - Not a grunters gym. Havent had any issues or annoyances with my fellow gym goers here. Extras - Classes for dancing. A daycare center (not sure of all the details on this one). Other - Atrocious parking but this isnt the fault of FE. Plenty of parking spots that are filled up due to the Giant besides it. People are relentless in their shopping needs I guess. Guy below me is complaining about barbell collars...bro, seriously? Youre getting full free weights that you yourself say isnt busy for ten dollars a month and youre crying about barbell collars? They are twenty dollars max. Bring your own set. I cant think of a single gym that Ive been to that hasnt had people running around and generally misplacing/using/losing collars. Having your own set removes a lot of headaches.

Sun Aug 14 the gym was supposed to open at 7:00 am. There were about 20-30 members who waited until 7:30, and after much frustration left. Others drove by and left right away seeing that the gym wasnt open. One member told me that last Sunday the employee who was supposed to open didnt arrive on time and the next employee who did arrive didnt have the key. The opening employee arrived last Sunday 7 minutes late. This doesnt seem like a big deal, but when a place says it opens at a certain time, then it should. Also those members waiting at the door at 7am have no idea when someone will arrive, if at all, so the frustration and annoyance builds. Today, some us us waited until 7:30 and some left before then. I called the Silver Spring location to see if they could call someone, but the nice lady who called her manager wasnt able to reach him. Managers should be able to be reached at all times. By 8am I called the Hyattesville location. The employee there apologized and said she would try to reach a manager. Still no answer at the Sterling gym. I found one of the managers emails and emailed him. Im not sure if he got it or not. I returned at 8:30am to leave a note on the door if it still wasnt open, but someone just then came and opened the door. The staff member who was there explained that the manager had fired the same employee who was supposed to open today, but the manager forgot that. OOPS! Or in the famous words of Scooby-Doo, "Ruh oh!". In the words of Homer Simpson, "Doh!" My Yiddish friends, "OY!" Well Geez!, I hope the guy who got fired is the same guy who opened late the previous week because I hope thats not going to keep happening. Those of us crazy enough to be there at 7am on a weekend are there because we have jobs or life to get to. Aside from that minor goofiness from today, I do enjoy the gym and my husband is thinking of joining, as well.

$10 a month. No contract. Has a squat rack (which is more than you can say about most 10 bucks a month gyms)... no one gets upset when people deadlift (again more than you can say about 10$ gyms). They have a cardio theater and nice facilities...yadda yadda yadda. So the gym is does have some good equipment and a decent set up. But some how you still get what you pay for. Im not one to write reviews generally. But I am hoping that someone reads what gets written here. They only have 3 sets of barbell collars despite having 5 bars. 5 bars is already a little low but OK since the demand isnt too high at a place like this. But only have 3 sets of collars makes it essentially 3 barbells. So I went to ask when they would get more. I was told that they were ordered. A week passes and when I ask I get the same response. The next week Im told they have no idea when they are getting them. The employees have been less than helpful and not very enthused about answering my questions concerning the issue. If they had been truthful I could have picked up a cheap pair of spring clips for a couple bucks to bring in for myself. It is basic equipment... Even if it is a cheap gym it is something they should supply. I probably would have given it 3-4 stars if they nicer/quicker about the situation.

The Gym is nice, but I will say, read the fine print on your contract & dont believe what they tell you when theyre trying to get you to sign up! I went in with my girlfriend, we both wanted to do mainly just the classes, but I wanted a membership where my husband could go to the gym part also. The front desk "manager" told us to have my friend sign up for the premium membership, bring me to classes as a guest, and have my husband sign up for a premium membership so he could go on his own to the gym. That was all well and good for 7 months & then they all of a sudden determined that the front desk guy had "lied to us" and I could no longer come as my friends "guest" to classes with out a $15 fee each time! Of course, the front desk guy "no longer works here". This was how THEY told us to sign up, so that all 3 of us could go!! My friend confirmed that this was the way we were told BY THEM to register, but they said basically "too bad". Very disappointed!!
