The experience at this YMCA was horrible. As a lifetime member of the YMCA with away benefits (for which I pay extra), this YMCA has been the worst I have experienced. I have used YMCAs across the country and have never encountered a staff member so incredibly rude and unwilling to assist me (Tara). Not only was she unable to assist me she continued to embarrass me in front of other members waiting in line. Her response was completely uncalled for, my situation was somewhat unique but still no way any member or guest should be treated. I was only allowed to access this YMCA after 15 minute argument with the front desk trying to convey my maiden name was different from married name. My membership card had my maiden name but even with 3 forms of picture ID and correct address matching within the system this was still an issue. While also being an away member I was still required to pay a 5 dollar fee to use the swimming pool. This review will be followed up to the Reston YMCA executive directors explaining that as YMCA member for over 25 years, i have never been so poorly treated while visiting any YMCA.

My son had an "accident" during their outdoor summer camp program. He isnt one to have accidents. When they were out on a hike, he said he told them he needed to go to the bathroom, they said wait, etc. When I arrived that evening, I found my son sitting by himself, away from everyone, under the tent, pants full of poop. Hed been like this all day. Nobody was around him because of the smell. Awful. No one called. I reported the incident to the site manager and they said they couldnt confirm anything. The bottom line is that the summer camps are run by kids with very little adult supervision. The after school program is much the same. The preschool program is a much more efficient ship. My other son attended the program for several years and loved his teachers and was prepared for the transition to kindergarten. But, Id recommend staying far away from both the after school program and the summer camps.

It is overpriced considering what it provides. Several years ago they renovated the place. The paint job from it is horrible. The pool has way too much clorine in it. My skin in a week simply hurt. After 3 months one has to purchase a new bathing suite because the color is burned out and elastic stretch - horrible. No amount of informing the manager will change it. The showers barley work putting out so little water. In the winter the hot water would not work. People would go home to shower after swimming. There was a fella at the check in desk that would yell at you as if you were in a military line up. Abusive power play. If you forgot your card he would not let you in despite the no of times you came in. The place had insecure low lifes that would try and bully you off a machine. It provides a roof over your head if it rains and a couple of dum bells for top price. A charity case

I decided to resign from the Y a couple of month ago. I thought that if I stopped paying the monthly bill I would be canceled. Not so. I was billed and told that if I didnt by and sign paperwork they would turn my bill over to a collection agency. I made a special trip to Y and thought I had cleared everything up only to get another bill. Went by the Y again and was told by a service representative in a very haughty voice that if I didnt pay they would send my bill to a collection agency. I will probably come by and pay just to stop having to deal with the Y.

Be careful in the gym. I had my iphone 4 stolen there last night while playing volleyball. A couple of kids lurking around were probably the ones that stole it. When I was talking to the lady at the front desk, it sounds like they have a pretty liberal policy on how some of these kids are allowed in to the facility. It doesnt sound like you have to be a member to get in. A little disappointing to hear that. I dont think that the Y has enought controls, and general policies in place to offer this very liberal policy on letting people in.

This gym is great for families. The group exercise schedule is diverse, and I have had many good instructors. The front office staff is friendly and helpful. If you are single, and looking to meet people to date, this is probably not the gym for you. But if you want to work out in a comfortable atmosphere, with people of varying fitness levels, and expose your children to coaches and staff who truly like working with kids, then this is your gym. OK for adults. I do agree with a previous reviewer that the kids in the summer camp deserve better supervision: I thought my son was the only kid who soiled his pants in one of the outdoor camps last summer! Generally I think the reston YMCA summer camp is overcrowded. During the swim camp, my son hates the free swim time because he gets kicked by other kids all the time: thats how crowded it was.

The lifeguards on Saturday evenings (Astir, Ivan, Eileen) are reckless, loud, dont pay attention, talk to one another while on stand, push one another into the pool, and Ive also observerd from the upstairs window that they never clean after the pool closes (They instead blow the whistle at each other/ mess around) If you want a safe and nice environment go somewhere else!

I am a member of this Y and also use other Ys when I travel which is a nice benefit. The facility is nice but if you are looking for ultra fancy you wont find it here, its a Y. There is a ton of cardio, weights, machines, free fitness classes, a great pool, sauna and steam room and you can also get a massage. The hours are good too. Recommended!

I spoke a front desk staff, I miss her name, a very polite and professional front desk assistant, 03/19 at around 3pm, She took her time to explain my enrollment options, the services within and was almost certainly going to give me a tour before I explain I would have to come back. I will definitely enroll. Tony.

Looks like an older YMCA. Not to say its bad, but there is some thats left to be desired if youre looking for a good workout with all the equipment you may need. The LA fitnesses in northern Virginia area offer more in my opinion, but this suffices, considering its close to the metro station.

I agree with the latest review; they treat you horribly. Absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. YMCA needs to ensure that their customer representatives understand that they are dealing with customers and are not hired to police customers and treat them with disrespect.

Just cancelled my membership there and they kept billing me. Told me that I would not be charged and then got charged. Was also charge an assessment fee without any disclosure. Nice when you join but if you dare leave be VERY certain that they will not keep billing you!
