If you are looking for a school that is nurturing, clean, and friendly, with a safe environment and educated teachers, then the Compass School in Manassas, Virginia is the place to consider. My husband and I had looked at different private daycare/schools in the area and did our due diligence, and to be honest with you, we were not impressed. One of my co-workers suggested that we check out the Compass School since her children were attending at the time. We were pregnant with our first child, so we had really had high expectations and standards when we walked through the doors. i.e.: (smell, sounds, interactions with the kids, routines, safety concerns as well as the normal emotions of putting your first child and leaving them with strangers) We made a surprised unannounced visit to check out the school. We were greeted by a warm and friendly, knowledgeable staff that was happy to show us around. We observed a loving atmosphere and felt immediate comfort. During our tour we noticed displays of artwork hung up on the walls showing young creative minds at work and done by all ages of children in the school. We learned the philosophy behind the education and it was amazing. They answered all of our questions and the school met and exceeded our expectations. We immediately enrolled after our visit. Our daughter has been attending the Compass school as early as six weeks old in the infant wing. Five years later her time at compass school has come to an end. We highly recommend this school to anyone looking whether it is your first child or third. We never once regretted our decision, and years later we still feel to this day that we made the best decision. Our daughter has grown and learned so much over the years, that we feel that the education she received will help her in the next phase of her life. Once again, we would highly recommend this school. Sincerely, Xavier and Wendy Wright March 29, 2014

We were thrilled to go to Compass after a bad experience at a previous daycare. It was so clean and new and the teachers and Assistant Director (who is no longer there) were really nice. The Director is snooty and chooses on her own time when to acknowledge someone and when to be friendly. Im not sure if she grasped the entire customer service aspect of her position. The 2 year old classroom was awesome. Miss Kristin really had a great program. Then we went to the preschool. Yes. The actual childcare was fine. My daughter loved the program...However, what child wouldnt enjoy a program that they get to run! My child was into free play, and basically thats all there was. Because its based on the childs interests, there was no actual education. She couldnt even write her name by the age of 4 and was not trying to practice after I picked her up at 6pm. The school is quite expensive for its location, so I expected the basics to be taught and I was told the kids would be ready for Kindergarten. We ended up moving and I put her in a traditional program and she was writing her name and alphabet within a month. Although, it was a huge struggle to get her to do it without complaining and honestly, she would still to this day rather have free play. Ive read numerous articles on how preschool sets the standards for childhood education. Even at homework time, she says she wants to go back to that school where she got to play all day. She went there 3 years ago. With all of this being said, please consider Compass for the first 3 years of life but look into a different place for preschool if you want them Kindergarten ready. The same Director is there, but the Assistant Director is a sweetheart.

After trying multiple other childcare services that did not work out and caused my children stress and unhappiness, a friend turned me on to Compass School. I did a tour of the facilitiy and met the staff and signed my children up that same day. My children were 1 and 2 years old at the time; it has been three years since I enrolled them and my experience with the School has improved with each passing year. Both of my children have not only been happy and excited attending Compass, but they have grown so much because of the outstanding cirriculum and caring staff. Throughout the years, my kids have had caring, attentive, and talented teachers that helped with everything from potty training to learning letters, numbers, and social skills necessary for transitioning to public school. Compass also offers excellent optional programs that add to my childrens overall experience, such as music, soccer, dance/theater, and even Lego electronics. I can confidentally say that my children are better educated, more well rounded, and prepared to entered public school--this is something that I could not say of other services that I tried. The School Directors also work very hard to make Compass an inviting, inspiring, nuturing, and creative enviroment that allows kids to explore, create, and develop. They are attentive and responsive with questions and issues, taking steps to quickly address concerns when needed. I have reccommended Compass to several friends that have gone on to enroll their children as well; I will continue to recommend and praise Compass and all it has to offier.

The experience Compass School has provided us from the beginning is simply amazing. We enrolled our two year old son earlier this year and the teachers really took time to get to know him and kept open communication with me to ensure he transitioned well. This was his first preschool, so he struggled a bit in the beginning with naps, morning drop offs, eating lunch with the group, etc but with time, patience, and creative solutions he made tremendous progress and is such a happy boy in the VA Study classroom. The school is clean and yet looks like home...lived in and played in. My favorite part is seeing all the wonderful art that the kids do displayed throughout the school. The play area is big and offers variety. There is even a field across the parking area where they take kids to play as well. You get daily reports along with weekly journals on what your child has tackled, along with pictures to see for yourself. We also enrolled our 7 year old daughter this summer in their camp program - she looked forward to every week which was full of activities and field trips. She made lasting friendships and still visits her summer teachers when dropping off her brother every week. We are moving this month and unfortunately need to find our son a new preschool home. The biggest takeaway from Compass School is how everyone there makes you feel like family and genuinely care about the well being of your kids - from the director and staff members to all the teachers at this location - weve experienced nothing but the best . I highly recommend Compass School!

My daughters started at Compass last year in the 3 year old and preK classrooms. They had spent their entire lives with a loving and wonderful couple who ran an in-home daycare together. Our plan was for them to stay with that couple until Kindergarten, but unfortunately the wonderful lady who had cared for them since birth passed away after a short battle with cancer. We had no choice but to find another alternative. We knew people who were happy with Compass, so we toured their facility and 4 others. Honestly, none compared to the people and the facility that we saw at Compass, and the price was almost identical. We were very worried about how our girls would acclimate to such a new environment, but we did not need to. They both had such caring and wonderful teachers, and they had so many cool and educational experiences right from the start, that they quickly fell in love with the school, and so did we. We never had any problems with Compass. The three year old room had a bit more turnover of teachers than I would have liked, but all of the teachers were absolutely wonderful, and now that room is great with an awesome teacher who has been there since May. The Pre-K program is beyond compare. Honestly, my daughter learned more there than she has learned in public Kindergarten. Those teachers are amazing. The admin team is incredibly responsive, keeps families very informed, and they are just plain nice. Overall, Compass is an amazing school to work with. I will be forever grateful for their help in the biggest change in my daughters young lives.
