Sterling is the real deal! I got a full balayage done by him earlier this week, and my hair has never looked better. No lie. Im not the type to write reviews, but I feel that Sterlings work warrants one. I hadnt had a haircut in over a year and had some serious issues with breakage, grown-out highlights, and messed up layers when I came in (I know... bad girl). My hair is super long and healthy (almost down to my butt), but it looked awful. After a quick consultation (I basically said "keep it long and make me pretty please"), Sterling gave me a dry cut and whisked me off to the balayage bar. I gave him free reign over the color choices, and he used my skin tone and eye color to make his decisions, which I thought was very impressive. I dont know all that much about hair, or Id tell you more about the whole process, but know this: Sterling worked his hair sorcery for a few hours and the result was literally magical. My hair looks perfectly sun-kissed and frames my face, transitioning from a rich dark brown to a honey/caramel tone. He did an excellent job with the cut, softening up my layers so that it looks full and healthy. (Ill post a photo when I get a chance.) Im usually a messy bun kind of girl, but Ive been wearing my hair down a lot more recently. (The balayage also looks amazing in a long braid!) Sterling also put some stuff in my hair to remove all the produce residue and something else to help with dry scalp, which I really appreciate. I felt very taken care of at Shockoe Salon and really couldnt be happier with how my hair looks and feels right now. One tip: if you have really long, really messed up hair like I did, I would recommend scheduling your appointment on the phone rather than online. I tried to book my appointment online and ended up having to reschedule it when I came in because the website only books 2 hrs for a balayage service, but Sterling needed 5 hours to do my hair. He was super accommodating and was willing to come in early if necessary so that I could get an appointment ASAP, which did not end up being necessary. But still--excellent customer service. Sterling gained a loyal new client in me. My family and friends also love the new do, and my mom is coming in the next time shes in RVA, so that Sterling can do her hair too. Im recommending him to anyone and everyone who asks!

Total crooks. I went there a few months ago and had an amazing experience. I got a very simple straight cut just to clean up my split ends. It cost me just $35. I came back again today for the same cut. Simple, straight, no layers, no color, no style. This time it was $80. More than double is ridiculous. They should have made the increase known before my appointment instead of being so sneaky. They had some half assed excuse about this being a top stylist. Thats bull because my fiancé (a guy) gets his hair done by the exact same stylist for just $35. I could understand the price if I got a style or color, but this was literally a straight health trim. My fiancé and I will never return.

Im moving into the Rockets Landing area and was looking for a new salon close to home. NEVER GO TO THIS SALON!!!!! Ive had my hair done at high end salons for years. I left with blue white hair with orange roots. Only the top half because is was a partial color. It took over 3.5 hours. I looked like a DROWNED RAT whose hair had dried. I then came home and CUT MY OWN HAIR. Im going out of town for a week and dont have time to get it fixed. I will be wearing it up in clips and hair bands to conceal it the best I can until I can get it fixed. His prices are way over the top. I will be calling to get a refund of my money. I should have walked out without paying...

I read the great reviews and its close to my new apartment so I thought I would give it a try. Prices are misleading online and I dont appreciate having product put in my hair that I didnt request and then charged for it. I make a pretty good living and not sure how people afford this place. I do like the color but its not quite what I was going for. And what sealed the deal on my negative review is that I simply wanted my hair trimmed as I have been trying to grow it out for a long time, however I now have layers that I never asked for that go above my ears. I was quite upset about that. I will be making the 30 minutes drive back to my previous salon.

Shockoe Salon is the best salon in Richmond! Ive been waiting years to find someone who understands my hair desires even when Im not even sure what they are when I get into the chair. I finally found him at Shockoe Salon!! Sterling is the BEST hands down! Observing the other stylists during my visit I quickly saw they were super talented as well. Sterlings just my guy :) I am thrilled with the Balayage he hand painted and the cut is super manageable. Im so happy that Shockoe Salon opened in Richmond, I will definitely be going there for years to come! I highly reccomend this place to anyone looking for a new salon or a new look!!

He does an awesome job every time - never had to ask Sterling to correct anything after he was done - and Im a fastidious guy. He stands out from the rest of stylists: calm, knowledgeable, creative and thorough. Pricing is good, and the quality is superb. Salon is comfortable, everything conveys quality. Shockoe Salon is the best salon experience I have ever had! The location and design of the building give a great first impression and I really enjoy the artwork from local artists that Sterling displays in his shop. As for the hair color and styling, Sterling is consistent and always has me walking out super confident. He listens to what I want and truly treats my hair like a piece of art! Not to mention the relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes for a true spa experience that is worth it every time

Didnt see any diverse people of color in any salon pics--but I bought a groupon for a Brazilian Blowout anyway& had it done by Beth. I have curly, frizzy & fine hair (to be specific, my curl pattern is 2Bish)...she was confident and welcoming. She looked up answers to questions I had, and made sure it was ok to apply the process on previously relaxed hair, and the final outcome was great! Have bought another & am going back for highlights & a trim!

Sterling is awesome! He really takes the time to listen to what you want and is super talented! And Im convinced he can fix any hair color gone wrong and turn it into beautiful fabulousness! The salon itself is really cool and relaxing. Im usually really nervous when I get my hair done and Sterling, and the whole staff actually, were so friendly I felt very comfortable the entire 4 hours it took to fix my hair. I cant wait to go back!
