Bottom Line: I would definitely hire Appleton Campbell again. From start to finish, all employees involved were considerate and professional - from the call/dispatch personnel, to the initial visit, to the installation and then the final follow-up call to set up the inspection by the county. Each interaction with Appleton Campbell made me feel like a valued customer and part of the decision-making process for all that was involved in diagnosing and ultimately replacing my aging HVAC unit. [reviews for the initial consult July 29, 2016 and the installation Aug 4, 2016 are below] 20 Aug 2013 - Update: My new Carrier brand HVAC system for the main zone in my house (zone 1) was installed on Aug 4, 2016. The job was professional from start to finish. The four men who did the job were excellent. Jason and Jeff built the foundation/retaining wall base for the new outdoor compressor unit. The end result was a very nice pressure treated wooden container topped off with quartz pea-gravel to accommodate the slope of the yard where the new unit would be placed. They did a nice job of preserving my sod and the clean up afterward was also good. Dylen and David were the men who installed my HVAC unit both inside and out. Dylen was the lead man on the job. He was very meticulous and knowledgeable. Both men were amiable and answered all of my questions. The installation went very smoothly. Dylen was very thorough and explained the operation of my new system to me, including a new smart thermostat. He also provided a very comprehensive 3-ring binder with all of the instruction manuals, warranties, etc. for my new HVAC system. The cleanup from the installation was excellent. There was no debris of any sort left behind - a very tidy job indeed. The Prince William County inspector came out on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 (standard procedure for gas line hook up for new appliances). She stated that Appleton Campbell was one of two HVAC companies that she personally recommended for stellar work in our county. I have now owned and run the new Carrier brand HVAC system for two weeks now and it runs like a top. I can already tell the improvement in the efficiency vs. my former 14-year-old Goodman (builder grade) system. I can tell that my other heat pump system (zone 2) does not have to work as hard now that the new Carrier HVAC (zone 1) is in place. I look forward to seeing the savings on my next electric/gas bill. 29 July 2016 - After much careful thought and research, I hired Appleton Campbell to repair and ultimately replace my 14 year old HVAC system in my home. Previously I had used a few HVAC companies from our area that provided inconsistent service and was ready to try someone new. I was really impressed by the level of service that I received today. Chris came out to my house and inspected my ailing AC unit, which had failed the night before. He was very courteous, kind and professional. He explained all of my options from a simple repair to updating my system. He explained the pros and cons of each choice very thoroughly. He also was patient and willing to talk with my husband [overseas] via Skype about the problem and possible solutions. Chris explained all the costs, labor and inclusions. He answered all of my questions. We were happy to discover that Appleton Campbell offers a military discount as well. I was very pleased that I was treated as a valued customer and that the choice to repair or upgrade was left totally up to me. After weighing all possibilities we decided to have a new HVAC system installed. Chris installed temporary measures to ensure that we would have AC for the next 6 days until they could return to install the new system. He also serviced my upstairs unit while he was here. Based upon this service call, I am confident that we are in good hands. I am looking forward to next weeks installation of my new HVAC system.

I chose Appleton back in May to replace my aging heat pump that was near death. They did a great job installing but regretfully I learned that I overpayed by thousands compared to other places. The reason I am giving them such a low rating is mainly due to the people they send out. Its not that they arent friendly, but the past two times they have looked at my two HVAC units, they get EXTREMELY pushy to sell you a brand new unit. I signed up for their home service agreement where they come out and inspect your unit twice a year. Yesterday, they came out for their six month service and after Stacey was down in my basement looking at my furnace, he said it absolutely needed to be replaced. I told him at least five times that I wasnt going to replace it due to funds but he consistently kept pushing me about the 3 years no interest. He then told me that he was going to condemn it if it didnt pass these tests and that it was a safety hazard....yeah alright. I said the furnace heated great but he went on and on about how old it was. Sure enough, after he ran the tests, it passed with flying colors. However that didnt stop him telling me prices for brand new units. Appleton has to stop this push to sell you new HVAC units crap because it is getting old. I wanted to explain one more experience a couple of months ago. I wanted to know the cost of getting a battery backup on my sump pump. Appleton sent somebody in a timely manner, he went downstairs and came back with a quote to replace the entire thing for over 2500 bucks! I said the sump pump is a year old and that there was no way I was going to replace a practcially brand new sump. I only wanted a battery backup. He said it was showing age and that they use only the best and I told him that I didnt care, I just wanted a battery backup. He then said that those cheaper battery backups dont last but maybe a season, which is crap because I know numerous people with them and theyve had them for years (granted, they did have to replace the battery after a couple of years, but all batteries are like that). Just another pushy sales tactic to get you to spend thousands. So I was out 50 bucks for them just to try to upsell their products. I will no longer be using them after yesterday.

I don’t usually write reviews but in this case I felt it was the right thing to do. I have used the services of Appleton Campbell now for several years and there nothing bad to say….only great things. Renee Davis has been exceptional in getting the right service people out to my house for the correct job. A big shout out to all the service guys that have come out to work on my electrical, plumbing and heating and air-conditioning. The thing I like best is they give you one…yes one…price for a job and that is what you pay no matter how many hours it takes. They aren’t the typical service company that comes in and tries to sell you upgrades or added equipment you don’t need or can afford. However, they will recommend and explain other products but there is no pressure whatsoever to buy. One of the best products that was recommend and I eventually purchased was the air scrubber. I suffer from year round allergies and this has made such a huge difference in sleeping and breathing. When I finally decided I needed this product again Renee was so helpful….she had the serviceman bring 2 different types so he could explain both and be install the same day; this way I didn’t have to take another day off work (big plus!!!!). I have purchased their maintenance agreement and I get a call every 6 months to have my systems checked…this way if there is a potential issue then it can be caught before a bigger and more costly repair is needed. A big thank you to Appleton Campbell for providing such great service!
