While shopping on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2013, I saw the sign in the window at the Newcastle Great Clips offering veterans a free haircut or a coupon for a free haircut. When I went inside and asked to get a coupon (since I had just gotten a haircut the previous week and did not need one that day), I was told by Heather that I had to purchase a haircut to get a coupon for a haircut. When I brought it to her attention that the sign said I, being a veteran, could get a haircut at no charge or a coupon, she told me I COULD get a free haircut, but I could not get a coupon without purchase. She said her name was Heather and she was the manager and that she had the paperwork in the back that said how the promotion worked and that it was explained to her that no one could get a free coupon. I am extremely disappointed that what was advertised on the sign was not what was actually being offered. I personally think Heather was rather rude and abrupt and was surprised by her blunt and uncaring attitude regarding my confusion over the promotion. I personally think the wording on the promotion sign should have made it clear that a purchase was required to receive a coupon. I contacted Great Clips through their corporate website and Joann, the owner, called me. She apologized for the confusion and my experience with Heather. She did reiterate that the signage was not correct and that a purchase WAS required to receive a coupon. She told me "many people try to pull the wool over their eyes" by getting multiple coupons. My response to that was "how does getting multiple coupons benefit someone when the coupon is only good for 50 days?" I personally get my hair cut less than once a month, so even if I had TWO coupons, I would have only used one. Bottom line is I think corporate & the franchisees need to honor what they advertise as they advertise it. I have used Great Clips in the past and now have a three-year-old son that is getting hair cuts. If I return to Great Clips, I will NOT return to this location. Heather & Joann missed an opportunity to add to their customer base. I am very disappointed in the attitude of the owner & manager & with Great Clips.

Ive been here twice. Posting races just to help with identification of barbers - I hope it isnt taken as racism haha. The first time, I had an excellent haircut from an Chinese lady. The second time, I got my hair cut by a Vietnamese guy with long hair. He had a license saying hes been a certified hairstylist for 10+ years. Certainly did not feel like it. Worst haircut of my life, my head looked like a squash afterwards (incredibly bumpy cut around the edges). He was also coughing the entire time with his face right next to my head. Disgusting. He earned a $0 tip (and Im usually a very generous tipper). Be sure to avoid him.

Terrible service, got upset when I kindly requested for adjustments, told me how she thought I shouldve explained things to her when Ive been getting my hair cut done just fine with plenty of other barbers. Communication was lacking too and was so hard to even get on the same page with anything. Tried to make conversation with me but felt like it was an attempt to cover up or distract me from the horrible job she was doing. It felt rushed and didnt even really feel like a thorough job was done. To top it off she didnt ask me if I was satisfied with it. Then glared at me as I left wondering why I didnt tip her

it was a horrible experience getting my hair cut there. it is a big surprise how they are running this business on Great Clips name. there is a gentleman who works there(dont remember his name now)...specially do not get your hair cut from him...he always gives a horrible haircut...also to mention, you can not even utter a single word about your hair cut, he will play with your hair in whatever way he wants....is it not funny...:) ...I was supposed to put 0 star out of 5...but still gave 1 star.

Waited 30 minutes after being told there would be a 20 minute wait. Thats not the problem , then a fellow walked in who did not have an appointment (this was confirmed by the man himself) but he was taken immediately. I called the owner to let them know how her business was being operated. She confirmed the incident was inappropriate then offered me a free hair cut to make up for the inconvenience, but then did not follow through. Altogether a horrible customer service provider

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! 0 stars!!! NEVER GOING BACK! A Vietnamese guy attended me, I asked for layers and bangs. He was rushing as if he was being timed to finish in 5 minutes. He was coughing and burping the whole time. He said done. I said, no, you just trimmed my split ends I asked for layers and bangs. I told him it was not what I wanted and asked for. He said, okay, you pay now. I paid $18.00. WASTE OF MONEY! I did not get the haircut I asked for!!!!!! I went home crying.

The people were ok. I guess I dont expect much personality from hairstylists nowadays . regardless. The reason I am really commenting is the fact that I am a very busy person. I checked in online , only to get there and find out that they dont honor the online check-in . I watched people get helped before me and I ended up late to my meeting . Ill go elsewhere for a haircut .

I never had a worse haircut anywhere else in my life. I made a mistake of letting a new Asian short slouchy woman trim and shape my hair and she made me look like a zombie with ripped off hair and now my hair lost all the volume it had. Its simply pathetic.

I went for my daughters haircut here for the first time was really disappointed with the haircut the female worker provided . She never wanted to listen to my needs ... she did such a bad hair cut for my daughter will never return back here....

Dont know what the other poster is complaining about. Been getting my hair cut here for 5 years without a problem. There are a few stylists that arent great but you can find some good ones like alex or heather.

Would not recommend. Lady did not understand what I wanted and got mad at me when I said my hair was too long. Im a guy, I get my hair pretty short. Kinda disappointed with this location
