I was a member when this place was first built and at that time it was not to bad . The staff was ok, everything was new and there wasnt as many people as there is now. I had to stop my membership to leave for basic and trying to cancel a membership there was ridiculous. I dont know if the same rules apply but you had write and fax a letter stating why and when you are leaving there facility. But the reason why Im giving this gym a 1 star is because of there gym reps. I moved back to puyallup and wanted to start a gym membership close to home, so decided to go there again. I met with a rep and tried talking about prices and the daycare facility on site . First of all the guy couldnt answer any of my questions. Second of all , he didnt even try to answer any of my questions. All he wanted was the sale and kept pressuring me into joining and if I dont like it you can cancel at any time. Luckily, Ive worked in sales and know how what his motives were and how to handle them but what pushed me over is that he called me cheap and told me whatever you wasnt going to join anyways, bye and walked me to the front door! I dont care if all the machines are brand new and the place is big and clean. If your employees can act like this and GET AWAY WITH THIS than your gym is WORTHLESS AND SHADY! I will not only not go to your gym but tell others of this horrible place and to let all my friends and family of my experience so they can cancel there memberships from here as well.

Hahahaha great reviews! Like the person who said "I guarantee they will be shut down in a year" well your year is almost up fool! I bet all the people that wrote a bad review on here are just back to sitting on the couch eating carbs and looking like crap. The staff at this place is NOT full of top notch fitness specialist but thats no shocker since LA Fitness caters to the masses for work out needs. If you want a real personal trainer then spend REAL money and get one cause these guy probably make less then school teachers. This is the cleanest gym with the newest equipment around. The people that workout here are all well behaved and polite when it comes to gym etiquette. If you have problems with people selling you stuff then maybe your shouldnt be in charge of your own money. Ive never had a problem with the front desk people because I go in and workout and leave. Ive never had a problem with billing because I always have my money in my account on the day I know its going to be taken out. Ive never been approached to have anything sold to me while Im working out or any other time. At times a machine might be broken for a day, a water fountain might not work, or a workout class might be canceled...that kind of stuff happens so get over it. The parking lot for this whole little shopping village is super safe they even have multiple security officers driving around to keep an eye on things. The gym is what you make of it.

While visiting my in-laws in Puyallup, I printed out a three-day guest pass so that my son could stay in water polo shape. Got a hard sell at the door trying to get me to sign up, but eventually got my kid into the tiny pool (the advertised "deep end" was 4.5 feet "deep"). Was told that my remaining two-day pass would be emailed to me. The email didnt arrive before we left, so I went back to ask them to try again. The guy who had helped me wasnt around, so I talked to Jim Gossler, the sales manager. Gossler is like a poster child for whats wrong with steroids: no hair, arms like tree trunks, made me feel like I was interacting with a bouncer for a strip club. Told me that he wasnt going to honor the guest pass because we didnt live near the club, and would charge us $15 to come back. Said that the 25 mile condition was stated clearly on the web site. But it wasnt. Its as if Gossler was just making it up. Spoke to LA Fitness member services and they said that there *used* to be such a condition, but it was long gone. They apologized and said that theyd send a certificate for two days guest membership. That never showed up, either. Id avoid the whole organization, if I were you. And Id avoid the Puyallup location especially.

Training staff kids need more training in gym etiquette. This trainer was fake and tried to play it cool while me and friends were working out. He insulted us more than anything because there were so many other people in the gym he could have helped, but didnt approach. A while later another trainer came and bothered us (in the middle of a set) and specifically wanted to chat with me..I looked for her after, but she was nowhere to be found. I thought it was a problem with my dues but it wasnt. Leave me and my buddies alone while we are there, please. If we need you well ask. Theres no law against being confident with myself while Im on the floor. Im there to get a work out, but even strangers ask for my guidance and I will always help anyone no matter what. This is not the case for the training staff in South Hill, there were lots of other people with no training partners who were overlooked. Ive been a member and know the friends I work out with for many years..If I make the training staff uncomfortable maybe they need to Step Their Game UP because they need more experience. See you next time from a distance!!! Love and Hugs Teresa

The gym itself is nice. However, it is over crowded and there is not enough equipment to go around. My husband and I decided we no longer liked the 30+ minute drive out here so we wanted to cancel the membership. First off, I have been with LA Fitness for many many years. I have been to the Bellevue location, Puyallup, Kent, Federal Way and many more. I have never had a problem with the gym until recently. I went in to cancel my membership (because apparently going into the gym is the only way to cancel) and the manager wasnt even there. When I called and said that it is impossible for me to drive out there before my next month is charged, the employee on the phone was not at all understanding. I asked to speak to the manager 3 different times and each time the same employee kept coming back on the phone, no manager, not understanding what I was saying. I asked for the manager again and he said that she was busy with another customer trying to cancel their membership.... I can see why. This place is like a cult, once you get in, there is no getting out. They make it near impossible to cancel your membership!!

Why is everyone knocking this LA Fitness? Its true, at times the staff may seem like all they want is for you to buy, buy, buy, but theyre all really nice people and I have never felt like they think theyre better than I am or anything else. I was actually surprised with how nice they were. I even got a sweet deal for a personal trainer! As far as the locker rooms go, I use the gym daily... and the locker room is always spotless. I have only once come across a toilet that hadnt been flushed, but it seemed as if it had happened so recently that the staff wouldnt have even had time to clean it up yet. No big deal, just use a different stall. :) The classes are great, definitely intense. The machines are all wonderful and kept in great condition. I have also met a lot of really nice, down to earth members, so I can tell you its not all "juicin gym rats," I promise. Mostly normal people just like you and me, especially if you go before the night rush (5-630ish week nights). Gyms can be intimidating, but this one really isnt. Its worth the money!
