Ive been here twice now and I absolutely love it. When I went around 8pm we were carded at the door and the place was packed an had loud music. We could still hear each other fine, but if loud crowded places arent your thing it wont fit well. I most recently went circa lunch time (noonish) and there was only one or party the entire almost hour and a half we were there the music was quieter and the lights were brighter. Im not normally the hugest fan of beer (many bigger names here in the US are very acidic, which Im not a fan of) but the Dunkelweisse they have is fantastic. Really smooth and malty and nutty. We were carded when we ordered the drinks at lunch. All the food Ive eaten here is fantastic if not the epitome of "authentic german" cuisine. Service was fantastic and quick both times.

Hands down, the best German beer place in Seattle. They are downtown in Pioneer Square and this area can get very crowded if there are games around. However, when no games are around, you can definitely find enough seating for a group of up to 6 people. They run it like an inside bier-garten with benches and I highly recommend the Benediktiner Weißen - it is about as good as they make them in Germany. It is fresh, it is tasty and it is so refreshing. They also have vegetarian bratwursts made of almond and mushrooms, which is a total super win in my book. Definitely going to visit. Again... and again.... and again!

I found out about this place just by accident. walked by here many times but never recognized it as a German-style restaurant. but I was visiting the tunnel project visitor center next door and they told be about this place. they have some German beer, but not my favorite once. good is also began style but unfortunately only a small selection. they have sausages and Käsespätzle, but not the most important and famous Schnitzel. I chose the Käsespätzle, but the size was kinda small. I am used to way bigger sizes back in Germany. anyway the dish was excellent and delicious. Nice and friendly staff.

Really nice place with interesting and delicious German food and drink. You may die of old age waiting for the staff to notice you. If you are a party of 2 or less be warned, the staff tends to focus on larger groups and will ignore yours. Economic incentive trumps customer service. Just make sure to go when theres no one there (Sundays?), and sit at the bar and you might get a chance to sample the goods! If you do manage to get service they will act as if theyve bestowed upon you a huge favor by simply noticing your existence in their establishment.

Awesome rustic interior with long tables and a great bar. I dont know what was the most delicious part of my meal... Everything was great, from the kartoffelsalat (potato salad) to the knackwurst, to the most amazing sauerkraut ever, topped off with tasty house-made mustards, which I made sure to finish, even though my sausage was done. Will definitely be back, and Ill make sure to bring my dad (German) when he is in town. Im sure hell love it too!!! Tastes just like when I visit my Oma-simple, and delicious.

Im in heaven. All kinds of German biers both on tap and in bottle. Enjoy them at the bar, at a long table, or sit around a wooden barre with your friends. A few outdoor seats available as well. It gets loud but no worries. Focus on the brats, brezel, soup or salad instead. They have schnitzel or spaetzle if you want something bigger or hold out for desert with a bienenstich or germknoedel. If you dont know what they are try google. Great place.

I prefer the beer and food selections as well as atmosphere of some of the beer halls in Capital Hill, but Altstadt is pretty good. The beer menu isnt huge, but there are some good German beers and a few harder to find ones on tap. Good marzen and wheat selection. Considering the citys propensity for hopped up beer, its nice to have some malty selections here. Food was a bit pricey for the size. The atmosphere is fairly Teutonic, but a bit dark.

Cool place. Great addition to the neighborhood. Nice open atmosphere and friendly staff. Happy hour beer prices $4 for a 0.5L bitburger is nice, but $8 kolsch and the portions of fondue and fries were small. $8 Fondue was small--cheese was watered down with 4 skimpy pieces of pumpernickle bread and 4 tiny apple slices. We asked for more bread and was found to be charged $3 for 4 more skimpy pieces. Nice place, will be back.

I was here a couple of months ago for business and stopped in for a beer a dime currywurst. All delicious, especially the saurkraur braised in duck fat. Came back for a conference and stopped by again for beer and schnitzel and the bartender remembered who I was. Thats great service. Dont know when Ill be back but this place is a must on any visit from now on.

Choice of food options here were very limited, but they had an outstanding selection of German beers. The decor of the place reminds me of many bierhalles in Germany as well. They also have table games that you can play with friends, and I conquered, Das Boot!(really called a stiefel in German if you want to get technical about it)

One of my favorite spots in Seattle. The food is slightly spendy for what you get, but every time I go in am so impressed with their delicious food! Typically good service, its a huge space for 1-2 bartenders, they have games and big tables, we came with a group of 10 and were easily accommodated. Enjoy the mustards and craut!

Wonderful food, delicious and fast. Great beer price and selection. Something for everyone. I have seen reviewers saying they received terrible service. My guess is that they didnt realize only one bartender/service is working their butt off for them. Imagine it would be a lot of fun during a sports game.

Im German and I can tell this was Käsespätzle. The Apfelstrudel was not like the original one but it tasted good. Usually when I go to german bars in america everything is full with old german craps which doesnt comply with bars/restaurants in Germany. It had a nice atmosphere.

Good beer and snacks and they have dart boards with real darts!! Also, can order individual 2L boots, as well as but plastic souvenir ones to take home! Lots of open tavern style seating (long beer hall tables with bench seating), so great for big parties or meeting new people

Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Not too busy, and we had a very attentive server. Food was awesome and good beer selection. Even the vegetarian sausage was surprisingly yummy and satisfying (even if it was a little crumbly inside the casing).
