I have been doing crossfit for 7 years, and what I will say next doesnt come lightly. Town Athletics is the best gym I have EVER been to. I have searched far and wide in the Tacoma area, and visited or been a member at numerous gyms all over the country. Speaking to the seasoned crossfit athlete what makes Town so special is their programming. Most crossfit programming is pile of crap. If you follow mainsite youll go months without touching a particular lift, and then randomly they will tell you to do it 100 times for time. WTF is that. Towns programming is structured in such a way where you will execute all the major lifts over the course of the week at a percentage of your 1RM. GENIUS. No one else in the area is operating like this. Each 3 month quarter is has a different metabolic focus with an emphasis on peaking for the crossfit open. Additionally, and this is also very unique among gyms; Town has a day set aside to work on skills progression. So no matter where you are on muscle ups, handstands, butterfly pull ups, pistols, etc. you will be given specialized coaching to improve those skills. Speaking to the crossfit novice: I wish I had started here because if I had I would be so much farther along than I currently am. You will never see a crossfit fails video coming out of Town athletics. Towns emphasis on movement quality is simply unsurpassed. If you look like you cant handle it you will be asked to stop and to lower the weight or scale until you can execute a movement safely. I will leave you with this. Your path to athleticism and fitness will be quickest with Town athletics. Besides that Town is also the cleanest gym I have ever belonged to. Every night the mats get a sanitary scrubbing by an industrial grade machine they keep in the back. The people are great! If you are new expect to have 10 new friends within a few minutes of walking in. Every trade from doctors, clergy, military, firefighters, teachers, grocers, social workers, nurses massage therapist, realtors.... the list goes on. You will find someone with similar interests as you besides just competitive exercising. Last but not least THE APPLES. I dont know where they get their apples, but they are GOOD. Did I mention they are free. Every day they restock the basket in the front with apples straight off the tree. Ive stopped buying apples simply because I know no matter what I do or where I look I will never ever find a better tasting Apple. GO TO TOWN ATHLETICS!!!!

Town Athletics is amazing! It is truly an incredible place and one I am happy to have found. I’m not an athletic person and I never played sports in high school or college. I was a runner…sometimes. I’ve always been naturally thin and haven’t paid a lot of attention to my diet or exercise. As 40 was quickly approaching and my waistline was seemingly expanding, I knew I had to do something. I know the chain gyms are not for me since I’ve had a membership to one for a year and only went once. When the motivation finally outweighed the laziness and apprehension of joining a Crossfit gym I found Town Athletics. In my mind, when I first started, my perception of working out at Town was going to be photoshopped bodies, egos filling the room, and people judging because I couldn’t do a pull-up. While some of the photoshopped bodies are there, everything I had in my head or the idea of what it would be like, was wrong. There is a mix of skill level and everyone is supportive and nonjudgmental. I work out next to someone that is a pro while I am floundering around like Bambi on ice…and it’s ok. It is a place where I go in there and give 100% and it is ok that my 100% is not the same as the person next to me. It is a place of warm, friendly, fun, and helpful people. This environment is in large part to the three coaches that foster this type of atmosphere. They are patient and informative. They push and correct but never make you feel like you are a failure or unsafe. They stress form and technique and I feel like they would rather have me get that down before I add a bunch of weight. There are modifications for everything that happens in the gym and while they push you to be your best they are also mindful enough to keep you safe. They are just good people. I encourage anyone, and I do mean anyone, to check this place out. You will not regret it.

I am recently getting back into the swing of fitness after learning how to balance a brutal work schedule. I have entirely fallen off any sort of program, and have come up with almost every excuse to not get my butt back in the gym! My fiance signed up a week before I did, and after his first workout he came home and could not stop talking about how amazing everything about it was. Town Athletics has re-inspired me, and im regaining my confidence at a rather accelerated rate. Austin, Adam, and Michael KNOW what theyre doing. Their knowledge is unparalleled, and the atmosphere is so warm and inviting. Their passion is extremely evident, and their professional, yet approachable, attitude is key. The facility is clean, the equipment is all brand new, and its set up very efficiently. They welcome strangers, and penalize current members with burpees for not introducing yourself to a new member (Trust me, im not joking!). The work outs are tough, but nothing is programmed in a way that would harm you, which I know is a big concern for a lot of people in regards to CrossFit. I know that Town Athletics is exactly what I needed to start regaining confidence in my fitness abilities. For the first time in a long time, im excited to get to the gym after my 12 hour work day. I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of my progress, and im excited to continue to be a part of this community. I would recommend this gym to anyone who is wanting to take their fitness to the next level, you will not be disappointed!

Im a newbie to crossfit but Ive been a gym rat since high school. As a doctor who specializes in pain management Ive seen my fare share of crossfit mishaps and was skeptical yet very curious about what happens in a crossfit gym. I decided to give Town a try and am SO glad that I did! The three trainers are top notch and their mission is to help you get stronger without getting hurt. They are quick to correct poor form and really work with you to make sure that you are not doing anything that you are not ready for nor have the mobility for as well. The guys are also well versed in how to increase your mobility, teaching you how to take care of your muscles to prevent injury and speed up post workout recovery. Not only are these three guys on top of your form they know what it means to create a community within a gym. I moved to Tacoma 2 years ago and was working out in my basement as I couldnt find a gym that fit my expectations. Town has exceeded my expectations, Im now stronger than I ever have been before and I have a supportive group of fellow crossfitters who I cant wait to see every day. If you are looking for a gym that yields results with friendly supportive members and staff check out Town Athletics!
