Bottom Line Up Front: If your loved one requires Military Honors for burial, ensure you get Edwards to explain the process and the timeline for securing Honor/Color Guard burial Services to be rendered (such as the Firing Squad). Much room for improvement in Expectation Management and Communication. My grandfather, a decorated WWII veteran had requested full military honors for his burial which took place in March 2015. My parents sought services from Edwards Memorial but management at Edwards was not effective in communicating expectations clearly to my family. Edwards committed to an unrealistic timeline (of two days) to conduct the burial, and thus was unable to procure proper resources for Full Honors with Firing Squad for my grandfather. In some areas the local Navy Installation may not provide a Firing Squad based on limited assets BUT there are other sources (local Veterans Service Organizations and various local military installations) that could provide the Firing Squad services but they must be given enough advance notice, so that they can fulfill the request. Edwards should have clearly explained that they did not have enough time to provide the firing squad, before inking the contract and taking payment. Edwards should explain to the customer what is reasonable to expect, let them know there are no promises, let the customer decide if Full Honors with Firing Squad takes priority over Schedule --OR-- if the Schedule is the priority and military honors are secondary? Let the customer make this informed decision, by informing them. The average person off the street is not going to understand the Honor Guard is a volunteer force and takes time to schedule and secure. Edwards should be cautious to operate business based upon assumptions that a local organization will jump to meet their emergency (created by an aggressive schedule). Poor planning on your part, Edwards, does not constitute an emergency for the local Veterans Service Organizations and Local Military Installation Color Guard/Honor Guard. Do your homework, know what you are up against. You have been in business long enough to know better. The prices for burial services were fair and reasonable but I am grading them poorly for their lack of communication on this delicate Military Veteran matter.

My son passed away unexpectedly and I had to make immediate arrangements for his cremation. Friends referred me to several funeral homes and I searched on line for others. Edwards Memorial gave me the best price and the best service when I call each of the funeral homes on my list. Arrangements were made via email with them and their agent, David Shaw, was sympathetic, caring, responsive and efficient. I was so impressed that I have now signed up with them for a prearranged plan for my cremation. Once again, they gave me the best price and the best service.

In addition, they helped us navigate a rather complicated situation as my mom needed to be transported ( along with my dads ashes) to another state for burial. The only reason people Seek this place is due to the convenient location next to a hospice house. I have been waiting for 12 days to get her ashes. Apparently since I followed my mamas wishes and it was the cheaper side of things, its not of great urgency. DO NOT EVER CALL AFTER HOURS! The answering service are apathetic jerks who could care less about your lost loved one.
