I joined Golds Elite as my 10-year Working Out and Living Healthy gift to myself, in January 2011. I got the Corporate Locker, which included laundry service, the tanning package, and toiletries such as razors, shampoo, shaving cream, soap, lotion, and hair dryer and such. I also purchased a membership for my wife and 16 Personal Training sessions for myself. I felt very comfortable with my decisions, at the time. I chose this new Golds Gym Elite over an invitation at the Phoenix Country Club. After being a member there, for over a year, the facility and its staff has declined tremendously. They no longer have towels that fit everyone (Im a size 38 Male waist); drug addicts and people just leaving the downtown courthouse (who arent members) are constantly using day passes to shower and relax in the sauna; the sales representatives are rude and pretentious once you are no longer a sale to them; the front desk staff changes every month and were lucky if there are even 10% like Nikki (the very first front desk staff); there have been four General Managers in as little as a year and they care so little about anyone and treat members like theyre there doing us a favor by being there; the trainers (with the exception of Pete) consistently gossip horribly about the members they train - which makes us never want to work with them again; there has been a 5-ft x 5-ft puddle of water in the mens locker room for as long as I have been a member; they lose our laundered clothes, especially socks, on a regular basis; the maintenance techniques on the weight machines are poor, as when you lift on some of them, they skip; the treadmills look nice however, they skip-stop when running on them. Clearly, Im not at all happy with the fact that I pay nearly $200.00 a month for what technically is not a Golds Gym Elite but just another run down aging gym, with staff that treat members as if they arent equals, let alone paying customers every month. These concerns have been brought up with the various General Managers and their comments are: "Well, youll have to talk with corporate and they only use email", "That isnt my job", "We cant do anything about that", "Bring your own shower towel", "Well see what we can do", "Ill tell Corporate the next time I talk with them", and many other brush off comments that demonstrate why they are no longer there. All in all, this place lacks Class (showing excellence), contrary to the "Elite" title. Specifically; The staff come across as deceptive and phony; The staff is no longer courteous and they respond to member concerns passive-aggressively; The staff, especially the trainers and sales representatives, dont treat members the way the want to be treated as they are insulting, gossiping, and slandering when members arent around (Phoenix is a small town); The staff lacks creativity and careful observation and exceed in lethargic social skills; The facility is falling apart and the drug addicts and ex-convicts hanging out in the locker rooms and saunas are making good paying members regret their decisions to attend. Attending the gym six days a week, at varying times during the day, opens one’s eyes. I hope that the last year of my Two Year Contract is much better than the first.

Wish I could give negative stars.....Let me start by saying Justin the stores GM is rude and will just place you on hold forever when he is wrong or too incompetent to have lead you to a resolution. I called because I began receiving collection calls from this gym. I DO NOT HAVE AN ACCOUNT AT THE GYM and when I called to confront; I was placed on hold by Justin for 7 mins while other employees got on to just place me back on hold. Then I had to call back to get help to which my call was quickly answered and then transferred to the "Manager on duty".......and to my surprise it was Justin. Yes, the same guy who didnt have a good answer before and tried to pawn me off to another employee earlier. When we finally got down to it; he was unable to do anything but refer me to corporate. This is understandable as if I was running the company; I would not let him make a decision either. Once I was referred to corporate, he quickly hung up the phone without seeing if all my concerns were handled and without even a polite goodbye. When I called back a 3rd time to complain to Justins superior; I was told he was the top and that I would have to go to corporate. I am hoping this is the truth and that Mia L. was just not trying to protect her manager because that could prove costly since all 3 phone calls were recorded and being sent to corporate. Either way I hope this review finds them well and that they can learn what customer service is. Likewise, I hope that if any of you are willing to risk your personal information at this GYM that clearly has no procedure for insuring that the person signing up for the account is legitimately the person in front of them; you can do so knowing youve been warned!!!

They have a decent gym here with some good equipment. Having traveled all over the country I can say this is a pretty decent place to work out. Although it can get crowded at times there is place for everyone. Even the staff is cordial. But my issue is with the contract terms. They are very very "cheeky" about it. They advertise it as $19.99 but it never is just that! Firstly, other Gold Gym locations charge $9.99, and there is no reason you have to pay 10 bucks more for this location. Its all the same damn gym. Secondly, after 3 months they charge you "extra" $39.99 as some crap fees. You have no way of opting out. Worst part is they DO NOT talk about this "extra" fees when you join. They tell you its a month-to-month $19.99 but will not talk about the additional $39.99 per year. They bury this in tiny print on the contract and expect us to read it with a microscope! I bloody hate such dubious contract tactics. Be up-front about ur fees and I appreciate that and will be willing to even pay it. Dont cheat your customers like this.On top of that you are still responsible for paying a months fees even if you end up cancelling membership. That is the reason I left this place, never to return. Moreover, like some of them have mentioned here, the place was starting to draw in the wrong type of crowd. Think long and hard about joining Golds Gym and even if u decide to join, spend enough time reading the contract.

The first time I visited this location a little over a year ago I only lasted 2 weeks, it was poorly maintained, had poor customer service and lacked some serious hygiene... About 5 months ago I started having to come to the office more so decided to give it another shot, I signed up with the new manager Warren, I was very open with him about why I left originally and he was extremely receptive, he listened to everything I had to say and instead of being insulted thanked me and asked me to continue to provide feedback to him. Within 2 weeks I noticed a HUGE change the restrooms were consistently clean, showers sinks, floors, we actually HAVE TOWELS NOW!! LOTS OF THEM!! The Machines are wiped down by a cleaning staff that seemed to actually care, he has slowly (Im sure theres a budget or it would be faster) replaced a large amount of the machines and has added additional free weights, which is extremely helpful during the busier times of day. Im thoroughly impressed with the progress this new manager has made in such a short amount of time. He is ALWAYS there and makes himself available to all the clients when needed. He has really lead by example by keeping a positive attitude which seems to be really spreading amongst his staff, because everyone there seem to be much happier and friendly. This gym ROCKS!
