I have had my hair high lighted for the past 3 years from Salons all across the country. Before today I have had some people do an amazing job, some people do an o.k job but NO ONE has ever fried my hair!!!. TODAY THAT CHANGED!!! I called several Salons in the Tempe area and Altered Ego was the soonest I could get in and I had already been there and liked the customer service (more then the actual coloring) enough to go there again. I dont know the womens name, for I am horrible at names but she was tall with short blonde hair started working on the color I wanted from another coloring done in V.A. Well after waiting about 2 hours with bleach on my hair, I started to worry about how long the bleach was on my already lighten processed hair. Finally after asking someone if I should just go ahead and was it out myself a women said she would get to me after washing another womens hair. After she washed it with out conditioner because it still needed to be toned I felt my hair and felt the damage. It felt like straw and if I folded it, it might break. Finally my hair dresser came and toned my hair and added some conditioner to it, actually not some a whole lot of conditioner. Long story short, the color didnt stay because my hair was fried and it doesnt look right at all and my hair is compeltely dry. 150.00 bucks without a tip, and trust me I didnt tip. I will NEVER go there again, and if you do go there I would advise you to keep your own timer and make sure you monitior your own hair cause the hair dresser might not!!!!!!!!!!!

So I just got the worst haircut of my life here, both in terms of quality, as well as in terms of how accurate the cut was to what I asked for. So lets add some background to this. Ive been to Altered Ego here 3 times, two of which I was serviced by Chickie. The first time she did a passable job, but not excellent. The second time (I decided to give her another shot), she botched my hair completely, cutting it much, MUCH shorter than I requested, and to the point that I now have to style my hair differently than what I wanted (Im now spiking it up instead of letting it down because of how ridiculously short it is). I provided her reference material too, and even held the reference picture in my hand throughout the entire duration of the trim. Then she had the audacity to put the blame on me, suggesting that it was what I asked for (all i said is that I wanted my hair short in the back, not on the sides or bangs). Lets not forget the insulting eyerolls she gave me when I brought up her mistakes. Before todays ordeal I wouldve given Altered Ego a 4, but with how embarrassed I am with my hair right now/Chickies inability to come close to providing the hair I requested, I have to give this place a 1 to alert people of what one might experience.

I just moved to AZ from CA and LOVED my stylist in Huntington Beach (Nicoles Hair Studio - in case you live in Cali)! I searched for a place to go in AZ and found Altered Ego Salon & Spa. I went for an appointment this week and my stylist was Tiffany Kinnear. First, the salon is so cute. Love the decor and it has an awesome barber shop and coffee shop attached! Really great environment. They offer all types of services as well (facials, nails, spray tan, hair extensions, etc.). While talking to Tiffany I found out the salon is family owned (her mother and sisters) and has been around for years. Really nice place! So my hair was dark dark color treated brown hair (almost black). She said the best route would be to do a balayage. She was very friendly, took her time, and educated me on what she was doing. The final results were beautiful!!! I am so happy with the color and how healthy and soft my hair feels. I will be trying some of their other services and already have my next appointment with Tiffany! I definitely recommend Tiffany and Altered Ego Salon & Spa!

Been going here for 6+ years at this point. (In fact Im surprised I havent left a review already) I learned early in college that great clips, etc. Just doesnt cut it for getting quality hair cuts, especially for a trendy guy. My haircut isnt by any means complicated, but its surprising how BADLY mens haircuts can be done. I like a pretty standard cut, with an elegantly disheveled style. Ive now been going to two of the owners regularly (Matthew & Billie) for years and while the price is certainly more--you get what you pay for. The staff is friendly, accommodating and behind that youll ALWAYS walk out looking like a million bucks. Every time I go I feel like Im being pampered and thats part of the experience. I cannot recommend them enough. They are a bit of a drive for me as well, certainly closer locations, but I wouldnt dare let anyone else touch my hair. In the few occasions Matthew had to cancel, theyve always accommodated with back-ups that do a stellar job. A+

Eeee! Super satisfied with my new haircut. I just wandered in today, not sure if there would even be an opening for me to be seen, but alas there was only a 30 minute wait! This was totally fine with me because I just hopped right over next door to Solo Café and had a few coffees while I waited. The staff at BOTH locations (AE salon & Solo) are so sweet and friendly. I got a delicious iced chai latte, dirty, and then an iced espresso to go and they were both amazing. Then I got the pleasure of being taken care of by Sunny, who was just as bright as her name would suggest! I wasnt completely set on what I wanted so I kept changing my mind as we went. She was very patient and helpful and I walked away with a haircut that I LOVE. The salon is super neat and adorable too, like the café next door. I will go back there forever.

Scheduled an appointment three days in advance. Received the follow up call to verify appointment time and confirmation. Upon arriving 5 minutes before my appointment I was informed at the front desk they forgot to call to tell me that my stylist was running late by about 10 minutes. I am rather new to the salon scene, and dont quite know all the ins and outs of this profession and all the processes involved, so, no problem, I waited. Thirty minutes passed, during this time there was not a single employee who asked who I was waiting for, or given the option to have another stylist assist me (if thats how it works). Needless to say, after 30 minutes of waiting and still no stylist, I made the choice to cancel my "appointment". I was given an apology and asked when I wanted to reschedule. Not exactly what I came for.

The experience I have had at this salon has been incredible. From the moment you walk in, you are politely greeted by the front desk for check-in. My stylist Tiffany is unbelievable. I have a very tricky cut to pull of properly--its a pix--and every time I see her, my cut is absolutely perfect. Her coloring skills are equally amazing--the best, brightest blonde highlights Ive ever had. Having just moved here from Boston, I was a bit trepidatious about finding the best salon Phoenix had to offer. The incredibly expensive salon I went to couldt hold a candle to this place--the combination of the service and the talent of the stylists is pretty unreal. Personally, I would definitely recomend Tiffany
