As someone that works to protect the online reputations of companies, I dont often write online reviews of less than stellar service as I know one bad rating from one unreasonable person can ruin the entire listing. I am also able to tolerate a lot, I feel, when it comes to poor service. That being said, I feel it is necessary to warn others of this companys standards. I have been a loyal customer of Ulta for quite some time even though the service has never been amazing in the past. Recently, I have found that Ulta has the worst customer service I have EVER encountered. The sales associates are very rude and condescending. If you are a minority, expect to be followed (and they don’t try to hide it). I never pull the race card, but this was too obvious to ignore. Even when the Ulta Representative was questioned, she could not deny the fact that she was singling the only minorities in the store out to make sure nothing was stolen. I am all for asset protection, but please do not insult me and do it discreetly and do not single out a particular group. Don’t bother complaining to a supervisor either; they are the ones usually directing the other employees to partake in this discriminatory behavior. Emailing the corporate supervisors is just as worthless, you will receive a generic response and feel even more frustrated that your complaints aren’t being heard. I encourage everyone to take a look at their online reviews, it seems as though all are overwhelmingly negative.

We just went in there today and made us feel totally uncomfortable. We were just smelling the colognes and perfumes and had sales associates follow us every step we took. I never noticed anything until my boyfriend mentioned that they kept staring at us. He hardly feels uncomfortable so when he said something it means it was horrible. It was too the point where he said "buy something so they can stop assuming" so I just decided to leave. As we were walking out a security guard walked in and watched us as we walked to the car. My boyfriend drove back in front if the store to get down and ask if there was a problem. As he got off the security guard walked away and my boyfriend came back to the car. I immediately got on the phone to speak to a manager and all he said was I appreciate you telling me I will tell my employees. I thought maybe it might have been us being paranoid but after reading the reviews I guess this store does it consistently. These employees assumed that we couldnt afford to buy anything and so we would just steal. We could have easily bought whatever we wanted, but with the horrible customer service we received Im not sure we will ever go back to this store. Maybe to just give them a piece of my mind but I will not tolerate racial profiling

DO NOT Schedule makeup applications with dermatologist Alejandra or "Alex" at the Salon. She does not know how to do winged eyeliner and had to get another associate to do it. How does a makeup professional not know how to do eyeliner? She didnt blend my eyeshadow and when she applied my red lipstick, she over lined my lips and the top part was crooked. It was very noticeable and I had to fix it myself while she just stood by the cash register waiting for me to pay. She didnt even do my eyebrows right either. I know I have sparse brows to begin with (naturally) but all she did was apply this red based light powder to it, and could clearly see it in the light so it looked like eye shadow rather than from the brow kit. I think she wanted to just get it over with. Im very disappointed, I went in thinking Id get a professional job done rather than the natural makeup look I usually do on myself. Im no expert but I expected more from a "professional."

This is my go-to ULTA store and have always found it to be an enjoyable visit. Most often I know what Im getting, or Im just browsing. Occasionally Im there to get help and suggestions for specific products. Ive always found the store & salon to be clean and orderly, and the staff friendly & helpful. They offer a wide range of products & manufacturers and yet the staff is well versed on everything they carry. The option to "try before you buy" is one that I very much appreciate. When wanting help & advice I have experienced situations where youre left standing around waiting for someone to acknowledge and assist you. They could use a better system of identifying which patrons need help, and which are just shopping/browsing. Other establishments check on you while youre shopping, but ULTA doesnt appear to place a priority on that.

Not sure you can even call it customer service... This store in Chandler has the rudest employees I have ever encountered. They act as if you are bothering them or ruining their day if you ask for assistance, if you can even get their attention. I had one of the employees look away from me and head to the back of the store when I approached her for help. There were no friendly smiles, or any type of positive attitude from any of them. Not the experience I expected. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years. I will shop at the store at Tempe Marketplace from now on, even if it is a further drive. The employees at the Tempe Marketplace store are helpful, courteous and actually act like you are welcome and not a nuisance.

This is an awful ULTA to shop at. Ive never experienced friendly customer service here. A woman named Cindy refused to help us out and let us sample a primer tonight and we will not be returning to this store. I have received samples from plenty of other makeup stores, including other ultas and sephoras..Mac too. I will be calling to speak with a manager, and if they dont seem to care about the lack of customer service in their store Ill be speaking to a higher up representative. I work in retail myself and would never imagine letting customers down as much as Cindy did tonight, we did not even receive an apology.

While I have to admit, some of the makeup representatives are a whisper away from the aggressive sales techniques akin to those at kiosks at the mall, the majority of the store staff is ready and willing to assist and pretty knowledgeable. A few of the hairstylists were catty with one another, but that seems to be a common theme (Im my observation) regardless of location. All in all, they have good sales, the counter staff is friendly the majority of the time and most people are very helpful. This store is always packed, so it stands to reason they must be doing something right!

I have been to so many Ulta locations and this was by far one of the worst. Besides Barbie and Rachel (Dermalogica rep) no one even bothered to look at us. They all stood around near the Benefit counter chatting about their weekend. I deserve a better experience for being a Platinum member for years now. I will be calling the manager. This is unacceptable.

This store was a nightmare.... The employees working there are RUDE RUDE AND RUDE! The manager was chastising an employee at the same time they were trying to ring me up. Horrible experience. I returned a $135 curling iron 6 days ago and have still yet to get my money back. According to Ulta employees its my banks fault.
