Worst experience! Because I love my gym so much (LA fitness in Oro Valley), I decided to refer a friend. From past experience, I knew she would be able to try the gym out for free for a week and see if she liked it. This location was closer to our work so we decided to come here. What a mistake! The gentleman at the front desk were the only ones that made me decide to even give this a 1 star because they were incredibly nice. We walked in and as they were attempting to help set her up for a guest pass, Ben intervened. He was incredibly rude and waved me on saying, "youre fine" but pointed at my friend and told her to come here (to his desk) and sit down. He then told me that there was no week long guest pass (which after talking to the manager in Oro Valley, that was not true) and that everyday we attended the gym, it was a $15 charge. He then asked me what rate I paid and then told her that that would not be an option for her before she had even had the opportunity to put her gym clothes on and try this gym out for the FIRST time EVER. My friend and I just looked at eachother and I simply asked "cant she just try it out before we start talking about how much she needs to pay?" His response was priceless, "well its my job to try and sell you something, so thats what Im doing." My friend and I work in retail (top 5 retailer for best customer service) and we sell for a living, but in no way would we EVER tell a customer that that is our job and thats all we are trying to do for them. We finally got signed up for God knows what and as we walked into the locker room, we decided that we didnt deserve to be treated that way and left to go to my home gym in Oro Valley. One of the guys at the front desk ended up calling us back and apologized for the way that we were treated as he witnessed it all. Not only was it incredibly embarrassing for me because I talked so highly of LA fitness to her, but how embarrassing to be an employee at this location and witness someone higher up than you, treat a customer that way and think its completely acceptable. We will never be back to this location and I advise you not to as well.

If you are looking for a solid gym, this is for you. I was in the market for a new gym after graduating from the UA. I am a very critical consumer and I did my homework before visiting this gym. I have to say that many of the reviews here paint a poor picture, so I thought Id share my experience as you shop for the best gym for you. Note: I visited most of the commercial gyms in Tucson prior to signing up, and I enjoyed a 3-day trial run over most of the one-day passes. It ensured the best fit for me. Pros: Big open space (Chuze and Planet feel so small in their strip mall style), lots of different machines, pool, courts, Large variety of free classes. No contract. Cons: Busy at 4:30-6pm, only open until 8pm on weekends, no towel service for the pool I would like to mention two key inquiries in my consideration of this facility. If you note other ads, people say they feel uncomfortable because of the "bros" and "meatheads." I was reasonably concerned about this. I have found quite the opposite. There is the full range of people here. I personally think the old ladies are adorable. Everyone is kind and respectful. Even though, I lift 20lbs next to someone lifting 100lbs. There has never been any hostility. Another consideration was the busy hours. Simple reality. It is busy. I like to go at 8pm. A lot less people. (and yes there are 8pm classes). You will read about the sales people in the comments. This is a business folks. Yes, they are trying to make a sale. Look online before you go in. See if there are coupons and deals. Know the price you can get. Be a smart consumer. I notice that only people that complain seem to post. Hope this helps you. Picking a gym can be a very stressful experience! But this place helps me destress every day.

Horrible fist impression!!!!! I MEAN HORRIBLE!!!!! My girl-friend has been a long time member of this Gym, and had recently added me to her account, so we can motivate each other. They advertise a free "fitness assessment" when new members join. Having never had the "assessment" herself we both signed up. Someone dropped the ball when we scheduled that appointment, because we were introduced to a personal trainer... OK no big deal... however, he was not ready for his appointment, his loud, speaker phone conversation was much more important than the new clients that had just sat down. He dropped two waiver forms on the table and said " this is so you cant sue us for making you sore" and walked away for 5 mins. After reading the form, was when I realized what was going on. I was signing a waiver for a Trainer. Here comes the TURN OFF... when we explained we were not interested in a personal trainer, just the assessment and the facility tour, he proceeded to make us feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Scolding us about what certain "Scientific Terms" for working out meant, that we should pay for a trainer because we were uneducated. He has TEN years experience and he knows everything and we have no idea what were doing. Holy hell Im still wondering why I havent cancelled the membership. What a great way to make a person, who just wants to be a little more active, feel so tiny. When I look over at my girl I can tell she is holding back the tears. The jerk storms off and we had to find another to assist us with a tour. Great state of the art facility, HORRIBLE, RUDE, STEROID injecting meat head STAFF!!!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND

If you plan to put your child whos 1 year or younger in the "Kidz Klub" here, they mix the babies WITH the OLDER KIDS... I was told when signing up that they keep babies 1 year old and younger behind the counter where theyll be watched. I was told they are kept separate for safety reasons. That made me happy! You can see baby swings and such behind this counter, so I trusted this would be the case... I brought my one year old to try it out only to be told that they do NOT separate the kids.. Theres no way in hell im leaving my 1 year old (who hasnt totally grasped how to walk yet) with a bunch of older kids kicking balls and running around like crazy... Thats completely unsafe and Im unsure why I was told differently when signing up. I like this gym overall, however, the Kidz Klub was something important for me... Because I refuse to put my 1 year old in an unsafe place for an hour, Im unable to go to the gym nearly as much as I needed to and now my husband and I cant workout together like we had really wanted to.

I was lucky enough to get in on a discounted membership plan. I would never join at the current rate. Too crowded, oversold membership and unless you work out early in the morning or late at night, prepare for long waits for equipment. The staff at the First Ave. location is friendly and helpful and for the most part, the facilities are clean and the equipment is in decent shape. The corporation, on the other hand, is painful to work with. I had a difficult time cancelling my membership and regretted ever allowing them to auto-deduct from my checking account. Word to the wise, dont ever let a gym have access to your bank account. I had to cancel my checking account in order to halt the monthly membership dues ....two months after I cancelled with LA Fitness having fulfilled my contractual agreement with them. I gave them 3 stars, mostly because the local employees were great people. The corporation on the other hand.......
