Were On Time, Youll See, Or The Repair Is Free! Thats the Mister Sparky promise. If the electrician I worked with is representative of Mister Sparky, then the company slogan should be: Were Two Days Late, Youll See, Plus The Repair Is Inflated by $1546 and Obtained Through Lies and Extortion! To back up that statement, I documented this experience to warn others: FRIDAY, APRIL 24. Mister Sparky sends over Steve, a pleasant electrician in his early thirties. He patiently explains the city-requested repairs and quotes $5786. When I ask him to break it down to detailed charges, he knocks the price down to $5000. He offers to replace 2 kitchen outlets and 1 smoke detector for free. He assures me he has helped many families save money: insurance will cover the $5000, he says, and focuses on the "free" part. Im very anxious because I need to pay for a hotel until repairs are completed, so Steve promises everything would be done in three days. I trust Steve, who writes the repairs down on a contract of $5000---and I sign it. SUNDAY, APRIL 26 Steve promises to get the work permit on Friday and finish work by Sunday. He never specified what time he would come on Sunday, only telling us to wait at the house... but he never shows up. We wait the whole morning, and at 11 AM I call him and he says, "Nobody showed up? Oh, there was an emergency." Whats Mister Sparkys policy on scheduling an appointment and not showing up at all? MONDAY, APRIL 27 Steve texts me that hell arrive between 9-10 AM, finishing at 2 PM. A team of electricians are supposed to come, but Steve arrives late and alone at 11:50 AM, working until 8 PM. TUESDAY, APRIL 28 When I submit the $5000 to my insurance company, the adjuster asks for a detailed invoice. Steve rewrites the repairs to be $3454, which our insurance accepts as reasonable. He claims $1546 for kitchen two outlet and one smoke detector replacements (he had originally said was free), which was obviously rejected. This is a a clearly inflated price of $1546 to be paid out of pocket! Steve gave me a second detailed invoice after he had already finished working. I never would have signed the initial invoice if I saw a breakdown of $1546 for a few smoke detectors and kitchen outlets. I hadnt realized it was the year 2094, when smoke detectors were considered post-apocalyptic treasures... When I ask for an inspection at the citys office, they tell me they cant send anyone because the permit was just submitted yesterday. So Steve lied to me from the start, insisting he got a permit on Friday. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29 Steve, my daughter, and I are waiting for the city inspector inside the house. I bring up my concerns about the $1546. Steve says he made a mistake and goes to his van to recalculate the invoice. Half an hour later, he comes back without any recalculations. Instead, he demands that I give him a credit card number and threatens to cancel the city inspectors visit because he suspects I wont pay him. I never once said I wouldnt pay and become very upset by this accusation. I have an 800+ credit score and, as a real estate agent, I have good relationships built over ten years with various contractors. Steve refuses to let me speak to his manager. I write him a check on the spot because of Steves threat to cancel the inspection. Flustered, I cant find the contract and Steves copy is at the office. I pull up the contract right before the city inspector arrives, and realize I had signed WORK COMPLETED TO MY SATISFACTION. On Friday! Steve made me sign before he even began working, before he rewrote the invoice to show an obvious $1500 inflation, before he demanded and threatened me in order to get his payment. Steve kept saying the entire time: hes just following company policy. So is Mister Sparkys policy to trick customers with inflated prices, lie about work permits, cancel appointments, misrepresent contracts, threaten and extort money from customers?

Nick Parker is your guy. He went above and beyond to ensure satisfaction. He saved the reputation of his company, as I was originally let down by the electrician who was suppose to come (but failed to during the time frame promised). Nick arrived on time, was fast, effective, professional, knowledgeable, and very friendly. He exceeded our expectations, and all of our concerns were resolved in a very timely manner. We are incredibly grateful, and happy that Nick was the electrician sent our way. I would definitely use Mister Sparkys services again.
