I looked into this gym when I moved to Arcata. Just to use the Arcata facility (they have facilities in other nearby towns), its slightly more expensive than my gym in the Bay Area and has a higher initiation fee. The work out room is smaller than my previous gym and it offers fewer free classes. Also, the pool is small. Moreover, Ive been told the classes fill up & theres sometimes a waiting time for exercise machines. Fine if it was a lower price or lower start up fee, but not at these rates! Regarding the below google user review, the price isnt negotiable. I talked to the manager on the phone and then went in person to negotiate. I was willing to spring for the monthly fee without the initiation cost. But it was a no go. The good news is that at least they gave me the price over the phone. Someone else start a gym in or near Arcata! If you build it, they will come.

Great gym with wide variety of group classes, plenty of cardio machines and knowledgeable staff. I really dont enjoy mothers bringing their school age sons into the womens locker room. The gym allows boys up to age 5, but I came out of the shower to a naked 5th grader this week. I get that moms dont want their boys alone in the mens locker room, but theres a rinse-off shower and unisex bathroom by the pool. Use it! Also, the boys 5 & under are too often running around rough housing. Truly unacceptable--keep your kids with you, or dont bring them into the locker room.

Be prepared to fight for space in the gym. Unacceptably OVER-CROWDED!!!! They need to address the issue BADLY. Posted rules are not enforced! There are puddles of pee in the bathrooms. The locker rooms are FILTHY. Just TOO MANY PEOPLE...With this much traffic they need to CLEAN the ENTIRE locker room/bathroom/shower area EVERY HOUR. This place is a CESSPOOL. There was a streak of blood on the inside of the locker...It never got cleaned...so they dont clean the inside of lockers..EVER!! GROSS!!!

To join, one must go there and talk to a manager of some sort, and ONLY THEN will they tell you how much of a fee they are going to charge you. Is it negotiable? It seems they charge different amounts for different people. There is a rather large start up fee and a monthly fee as well. Seems to have somewhat of a "meat market" vibe but I suppose one could ignore this. It would be nice if there was another full gym option in the area.

Healthsport has all the weight equipment you would need as well as cardio. It can be expensive to join however if you join during the holidays, the fee is half off. Healthsport is the only gym around that has a good sauna and steam room. It can get busy at certain times.

Even if a guy only used it for showers, it is still cheaper than non-gym alternatives. The crew seems righteous. The amenities are fine. I would like to see them change the pool system over to salt water... And lower the monthly rate by ten dollars.

This is one of the most community oriented gyms that I have ever worked out in. If you are ever looking to get in better shape or lose some weight this is the place, go sign your self up as soon as you can would recommend.

Great facility. Recently renovated. Family swim night starts at 5p and runs until 8p. Guest passes available by request.

Really needs a bottle fill station. Locker rooms are clean and new but the naked people are gross.
