I was making sure the car is ready for our teenage daughter before she drives it to school, the car was due for an oil change, so my husband took our Honda Civic to the Japanese Car Specialties in Newbury Park, for the AM HOURS OIL CHANGE SPECIAL. The service was rendered in a timely manner, however, after driving the car for 10 - 15 miles on the freeway, the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT illuminated, first thing came in to my mind was that we just took this car for an oil change service with Multiple Point Inspection to the aforementioned shop. Tony, the owner of the shop told him that everything was fine, except for that we needed a pair of tires. Fortunately, we happened to have an appointment for the manufacturers Recall with the HONDA DEALER OF THOUSAND OAKS. After the Recall & MPI, the service specialists at the dealer determined that the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT was from the defective Gas Cap of the fuel tank.we checked the cap, there were no signs of wear & tear on the rubber ring (SEAL), but found out that the rubber ring was slit open, the cut seemed very fresh. Now, the question is, how the ring can be cut by it self ? unless there was a mechanical force applied. We will be very hesitant taking our cars for any kind of service to this shop again.

FANTASTIC PLACE!!! I found Japanese Car Specialties by accident. I had horrible service from "Classic Tire" in the same plaze, so I decided to try JCS as a walk-in customer. What a pleasant surprise!! Bob just called me a few minutes ago to tell me that my brakes were in good condition and that I didnt need any unnecessary work done. What?! Did I hear this correctly? This place should be called "Honest Automotive" instead. Its hard to find honest, friendly auto repair shops, so I guarantee this place has my business going forward. As a matter of fact, Ill recommend this place to all my co-workers and post their business on my company Intranet. I HIGHLY recommend Japanese Car Specialists!!

You know how you dread going to amechanic because you know they are about to rip you off because you dont know any better? Well this place is DEFINITELY NOT like that. I have been going toTony, the owner, since I can remember. He is a very funny and honest guy and is a very knowledgeable mechanic. He only recommends services that you absolutely need. If he says you need something, you do. Period. You can try going somewhere else that might be cheaper or a place that will ignore issues/ problems, but then Id have to say you are compromising quality and possibly your safety and in the end youre probably going to end up paying more to fix a bad mechanics work.

I agree with the 4 other reviewers here, and I have only had honest and good service at a very competitive price. I was attracted to this shop by their ads a few years ago because every other place I called gave me vague quotes and leaving me guessing. But once I was in the shop, I could feel that they were the real deal. No pushing, no selling. They recommend services, but if you say no, they never push. They also keep promised time when they expect the work to be done. So I kept going back to them. There is simply no need to look anywhere else.

Three Words: Honest, Fair, Exceptional Weve used this place for about a year now, with two older cars. The work they do is top-notch and customer service is excellent. These guys are the real deal for an honest, quality mechanic. In fact, I really shouldnt tell you about them, and keep the secret to myself, but that wouldnt be fair to JCS, and certainly not in the spirit of their work.

They are open from 8 to 5 Monday through Saturday. If you want an oil change/service, bring it in before 9:30 a.m.

$26 for an oil change and filter. 6 quarts. Speedy. Been coming for years and theyre great.
