This place is at a convenient location downtown near everything and has a good assortment of freeweights and machines. The equipment is however old at best, and many are in disrepair. My biggest problem with this gym is its absolutely filthy. The locker rooms are on par with 3rd world countries. The showers are never cleaned. In the past they would paint the tile to make them look new, now they just have brown and black tile to hide the filth. The shower drains are routinely plugged with hair and 1-2" of water. The stalls are rusted through years of urine splash and the odor on a hot day is morgue-like. Im not sure why the county heath department wont shut this place down. If you have an open cut and use a mat, a machine or the shower, MRSA is probably readily available. Its incredible with all the people in Redwood City that are willing to pay for a good clean gym, this is the only choice in the downtown. People who continue to use this gym do so because there isnt another choice.

I used to love this gym, I liked it so much I recommended it to the HR people at my former company and now they have a corporate membership there. I moved earlier this year and had to cancel my membership, only when I called to cancel I was given bad information by a member of the Powerhouse staff and wound up being charged for almost a year of membership that I thought was cancelled. The owner, Rob, was very nice to me whenever I went in to work out but when I finally (after 5 un-returned phone calls) got him on the phone to solve the problem with my cancellation he was rude and defensive. I feel cheated and completely disappointed. As far as gyms go its a no frills environment, if youre ok with that then youre likely going to be a satisfied customer. Just be forewarned about their terrible customer service when it comes to trying to cancel your membership.

True lots of equipment True free towels True friendly people True, many free classes all day long Almost never a wait for weight equipment Also true: Broken equipment takes many months to get fixed The washer and dryer have broken repeatedly causing loss of towels for a week or more True the P.A. mike in the gym where "free" classes are held has been broken for months making it impossible to hear the instructor. True Rob the owner kept offering "deals" to bring in more members to the point of new members paying less than half of what we paid. True the day care had a sewer back up and was not fixed for months forcing many members and a neighbor of mine to cancel Stairmaster(s) have been broken along with spinning bikes for a long time.

This is above average for a gym, but agree,...wash your hands before you leave. The front wall blue barrier they put up blocks all the air, so we desperately need the air conditioning on. The panel funnels all the fresh air to the front kids. Have no clue why he put that up? If the AC is on, it is great~ If you come midday, you have to ask the folks to turn on the AC but sometimes they say they are not allowed. For boxers upstairs, dont go up there unless that black fan is on (against wall opening) as it is like 90 degrees up there (no AC). There is one black fan they keep stealing. I wish theyd lock that there against the gym floor wall opening upstairs (closest to boxing bags) as we need it!

This gym is really close to me however the location is centrally located downtown and very convenient. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They also always have towels available, definitely a plus. They have personal training available at reasonable rates. I trained with Fulya who honestly, helped me make some major health changes. She went above and beyond to help with training and coaching for everything from form to clean eating. Fulya is knowledgeable about many different training techniques and has a friendly, positive attitude.

The monthly contract is a SCAM. And a lever to get you to pay more once you want to cancel your membership. Avoid this place at all cost. Customer is service is absolutely HORRIBLE. In order to resolve an issue. You have to speak to the owner (ROB) who comes and goes as he pleases from the gym. so it took over 2 months to get a hold of him. After talking to him I felt cheated by the way he treated me. Their equipment is also very outdated and worn out. BEWARE

This place is an absolute JOKE.. Filthy equipment, filthy showers, old locker room and the trainers here suck. I dont even think they are qualified trainers cause they sure as hell have no idea what they are doing... Me and my mom had 20 sessions of buddy training and it was a complete waste of money. I recommend any other gym besides this place. TWO THUMBS DOWN.

I am a member of this gym for over 2 months now. I like this place as people and gym employees are friendly. I also have a personal trainer Scott, who is great and not only helps me in training but healthy and clean diet. Its not a super high-tech gym but has all the equipments and machine that is needed by a person who really wants to workout period.

This is a no frills gym offers all the gym essentials at an affordable monthly rate. While this equipment might be older its gets the job done. The staff is very friendly and will know you on a first name basis. The gym is never excessively busy so you typically dont have to wait to use a machine or weight.

It is a third-class gym that is affordable but I am not sure it is worth it. The YMCA has better equipment and lots of help. If you are interested in this downtown gym, do a month-to-month membership instead of locking in a whole year. If you like it, then sign up for the year commitment.

Love this gym!! Been wanting to be a member for awhile and now I have been a member for over a year. The staff is really cool and even give you advice. The people are friendly and all around feels like home when Im there.
