first of all i dont typically write reviews online about the places i receive services from, however, this time i wanted other people to know that Dearinger does not live up to all the hype. i was a customer of Dearinger for over a year and referred many new customers to them - which i regret now. Crystal the salon manager is completely unprofessional and did nothing to address my concerns after receiving a less than satisfactory highlight. She clearly does not care about client retention. I dont know why i kept going back to the salon, probably the convenience of location, but every time i left i was upset with my services and more upset for swallowing a huge bill on top of receiving services I was not happy with. They schedule appointments basically on top of one another so you might have your hair washed by one person then your hair brushed by another then cut by another and dried by another. All in all that makes for a very impersonal experience - more like a car on an assembly line just waiting for the next worker to attend to me. So not only was my colorist overbooked and never on time they left during my service to consult on another client - very, very unprofessional. This is the usual routine for this salon - clearly Mark Dearinger is not concerned with quality and building true client relations rather pushing as many people through the salon as possible and spitting them out just as fast. Not to mention every time someone washed my hair, who was never the person who had colored my hair, washed it so hard it became so insanely tangled it took the hair brusher like 40 minutes just to detangle the mess they had created. And most importantly the salon services i had done were not that great - i was never satisfied and left just feeling angry. Not to mention every time i went to salon i spent 3+ hours there, which is just too long. With all the overlap in booking i spent a great deal of the time waiting for the next "assembly worker" to address my hair. So instead of feeling good about my hair i was just ready to heck out of the salon (it usually was not until i was home that i realized i was also unhappy about my hair). On top of that the salon workers are constantly throwing new magazines on your lap - which have other people cut hair in the margins like they had swept the floor with them - absolutely disgusting. And on top of the poor service the stylist are constantly trying to get you to buy products from the salon. It was really distracting and made the situation awkward. Most people have a hard time spending 50 more dollars on some fancy shampoo after spending 150 dollars for a less than par salon service. I am all about giving people a second or even third chance to make things right but Dearinger does not seem too concerned with keeping loyal clients. This is amplified by the salon manager Crystals unwillingness to address customers concerns.

I should preface this by stating that I never give bad reviews, or reviews at all, but this was by far the worst salon experience Ive ever had. When I walked in, there was hair on the floor from the previous haircut and a small dog with a cone on his head. I love dogs, but not in a salon while Im getting my haircut. Just gave me a very overall dirty vibe and I should have listened to my gut and left as soon as I felt a weird vibe, but I ignored it and continued. My hair is long and pretty easy to work with, so the haircut was simple. I told the hairstylist that I wanted a cut to clean up the ends and add in long layers. I also mentioned that previous hairdressers used a special type of scissors on the end of the hair to not make it look so bluntly cut (like a child). He didnt really listen to what I was saying at all, and he was pretty clear he was going to cut it however he wanted regardless of what I said. He ended up cutting 4 inches off of my hair and no long layers, because he said it was too short at that point -__- Turns out the man cutting my hair was the owner. No conversation was had unless I initiated it, or it was about him. And as soon as I noticed he had cut too much off, he spent the rest of the haircut trying to convince me that it wasnt that short. Exact words were, "Its not that short, my hair is short." Yes sir, thats because youre a man. I left in tears, because it was that bad. I realize it will grow back but what a waste of $60. I will NEVER go back to this salon or recommend it to anyone I know.

**written under husbands profile. I had an awful cut by Mark the owner of the salon. It was worsened when I came back to have it adjusted the same day by another stylist (whom I have liked in the past so I wont write name here, as I think it was a fluke). So I called the desk and told them my grievance, which i never do unless its really bad. Anyway, they made a note to get a free haircut with another stylist to make good on a bad situation. So, 1 star for Mark himself and 5 stars for Star and the other receptionist who helped redeem my faith in this salon. They may have saved Dearinger from permanently losing a long time client! So thank you!!

I used to go to the La Jolla salon many moons ago but moved away. After long hiatus I went back to Dearinger but instead to the downtown salon. Originally Daniel did my do and I was always happy with his personable ways. When he left Aaron picked me up as a client and I have yet to be disappointed. I cant always afford to pick up the wonderful new products, but the haircut is worth every penny (not to mention the scalp massage). The other staff is always sweet, offering a product sample, a cup of tea, and a compliment. The decor/paint could use a little freshening but Im content as long as I can keep coming back to Aaron. Thanks!

My hair is damaged because "the colorist" Jocelyn let the color process for over an hour. Both the owner and I tried to get her to rinse my hair, and she sat around doing nothing until I had to demand it. Mark finally started rinsing it for me and the sink was full of hair that had fallen out as a result. I called and left messages, and finally, my call was returned, I spoke directly to Jocelyn who assured me she would provide me with a refund, this was over two weeks ago, and its not been processed nor has a refund been received in any other form. My hair is very damaged as a result of her negligence.

I have been going to Mark Dearinger for 3 years and couldnt imagine my hair without him! Marks salon is dedicated to giving you the most natural, beautiful hair that is effortless to style. I have extremely thick straight hair that has always looked terrible when long because stylists try to thin it out, add too many choppy layers, and provide haircuts that take too much effort to style. After getting my hair fixed and now permanently styled by Mark, I have become known for my long luxurious thick hair instead of thick unruly damaged looking hair.
