Third times the charm. REFUND MY MONEY! Every time someone searches for Serenity Salon Sherman Oaks, my nightmare pictures will come up. It would be easier to just CONCEDE and do the right thing. Your salon WILL lose business as a result. Let me preface this by saying, a) Im a certified Paralegal and am entirely truthful; b) because of Brians abrasive attitude, I chose to not go back into his salon for a refund but approached my bank to do so on my behalf; c) I provided photos but the bank only submits your Declaration, no photos as proof. These are the only reasons why the funds were not reversed. I will remove this post ONLY when Serenity Salon reverse the charges to my card. This salon needs to take full responsibility for the criticism it receives. As soon as my bank notifies me of such, I will delete any relative review. I was a walk in on October 16th. I saw his salon was empty and I went in for a discussion. I had a bad haircut 6 weeks earlier (was waiting for it to grow out, of course) and showed pictures of how I looked before cutting it short (my hair was damaged and Im starting female pattern baldness.) Brian knew nothing about the disorder (like it didnt exist) "women get menopause, thats the only reason why hair would fall out..."if it turns gray early in life, it wont fall out later." Riiight. I brought pictures of the style I wanted (a long Pixie) but he would NOT let me explain how I felt it needed to be cut in order to correct the all the stragglers left over from someone using thinning shears on curly hair. "Do you want me to do what you want or the pictures?" Well since he wasnt listening, I said, "The pictures." Well, I do not resemble the pictures in any way shape or form. He was NOT patient or open to criticism. It was his way or the highway. I should have kept walking. He likes to pride himself in being fast, "I can cut hair in 5 minutes." This is NOT a good thing. When you grab too much hair in one fell swoop (chunks instead of thinner pieces) it doesnt blend with the hair above it or below it. "Its bushy in the back," he said twice, so what does he do? Whack it off! Now theres hair missing in the back and it looks chopped, which sucks. "Its too short on top" he said a couple of times. I know thats why Im here. So what does he do? Cut the top shorter!!!! So now when it dries, I look like Bozo. He was not the type to measure each side for accuracy and too eager to tell me how I can wear it differently, like spikes (it wouldnt spike if cut cleanly in blunts.) I specifically pointed at photos of what I did NOT want: spikes! It didnt matter to him that a blade is a blade. He demonstrated on the left side of my hair AFTER it was blown out by taking the blade and sliding it down the hair like scaling a fish. "This is how you make layers!" Like punitively. Now that side is FLAT because hair is missing. And it still has all the straggly ends that I was trying to remove. FAST equals hasty and insolent. THIS IS WHY I DID NOT GO BACK INTO HIS SALON. If I give a stylist a photo (or 5 as it were) for a particular cut, there is a formula you follow, ie: a Pixie = A + B = that cut. If I wanted "the Rachel" for example: C + D = that cut. Whatever falls on the floor as a result is what needs to go. You dont pick and choose haphazardly what you want to chop or slice off! I said I didnt care for the bottom but he ignored me there. So, I have all this undergrowth that prevents the bottom from laying flat. And finally, when my hair is blown out, I dont want to wet it for as many days as I can. So he puts in this disgusting balm (wax) so it felt greasy and dirty. I had to put baby powder in it to absorb the grease. Stylists seem to think that after 50 years of clients getting their hair cut, they know nothing about proper cutting. The client always knows their hair better than anyone else. All I wanted was a beautiful haircut.

Be careful This salon had a yelp deal and the hair stylist would not accept it. I was told that only the "owner" runs that and he does not have the owners phone number. I was instructed to refund it and pay before leaving. I spent a lot of time sitting at the hair salon after my hair was done because I was instructed to try to get a refund from yelp. Then, I was instructed to leave the hair salon because the "owner" sent an email about the fact I bought the yelp deal. (I even still gave the guy a tip because I am stupid and always tip, even with horrible service and hair I dont like). He said he didnt need the reference number or anything. The next day he started to harass me by email/call/text saying that I refunded my yelp deal. I instructed him to let me talk to the owner and that I did not receive a refund. I told him that I would deal with the owner instead of him and I would pay when, and if, I am refunded to the owner. He NOW is trying to get me charged with theft of service saying that he is the business owner. He CHARGED me $250 for a partial highlight and a trim. (False advertisement) I have a RED STRIPE in my HIGHLIGHTS and my hair was BURNT where the highlights were, it started to break off. I had to leave conditioner on my hair for hours. I have spent a ton of money trying to fix these highlights and get my hair looking normal. I am going to have to cut my hair because of the damage from the highlights. I will keep yelp updated to whether or not I get charged with theft of service. I work all week and I have not been able to speak with the officer. This was the WORST service I have ever received and I was just trying to look good for my new job. Now he is trying to say that he quoted me $300. That is on top of the tip I gave him. I will be seeing him in civil court. I will keep you updated on the results. For the sake of your hair, choose another salon and build a relationship with them.

I loved Serenity and Faye who did my hair. Serenity is conveniently located on the corner of Ventura Blvd. Van Nuys Blvd. and has free parking in the back of the building. The salon has a modern feel in pleasant light colors and enjoyable music in the background. In my case: the Pandora Jazz Channel! The atmosphere is intimate and people are lovely and caring. Brian served mewater and a fantastically strong, wonderfully creamy Turkish Espresso while beautiful Faye advised me expertly on cuts and colors she saw fit. Faye trained in Europe and while being committed to doing great hair she takes into consideration individual preferences and needs. She chose a rich yet natural color for me and gave me the perfect cut. We didnt even have to dry or style it: my hair looked perfect just the way it was. The price too - was unbeatable - 30$ for a cut - I will never go anywhere else. The color was slightly more expensive at 90$ - but I have to admit: my hair is really long. Serenity also offers pedi/mani, facials and waxing. No question: I will be back. Thanks to all of you!
