Awesome indoor rock climbing gym! Ive been coming here for about three years now and even though they are smaller than some other climbing gyms, the customer service and belaying lessons are great! They have a wall designated for rock climbing and another adjacent wall for bouldering with cushioned mats all around. The skill level of the climbs are clearly labeled and they change it up pretty often. This past weekend I came with my bf to use a Groupon for a full day of climbing which included the belaying lesson and rental equipment. Our belaying lesson was taught by Mason and he was patient and very thorough in explaining all the details of how to tie the figure 8 knot and going through all the safety procedures, even though he had already taught several lessons for the day and was getting ready to leave. There are also several other locations of Hangar 18 in Riverside, Long Beach, South Bay, and Mission Viejo. Ive only been to the Riverside location which is a lot bigger than the Upland location. Tip* Look out for Groupons and special deals on their website! It saved me a lot of $$$.

Ive only gone rock climbing once so I have nothing to compare this to... but I had an awesome time and would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try it. My friend and I shared a groupon that was $30 total for both of us, and included a belay lesson and equipment/shoe rental, then you can climb anywhere in the gym to your hearts content. The staff is very nice and helpful, and the climbs are labeled with the level of difficulty. For those who dont want to use ropes and harnesses, there are plenty of walls for bouldering. I know theres mats and all, but its still kind of scary. Yes, recommended and would definitely go again.

The most transit accessible climbing gym in Southern California by far, behind a Metrolink station whose trains pass through from 5a-10:30p. Although it may be old and not as pretty as the largest climbing gym chain (by number of locations), this gym has a storied history of being the first of what became the nations second largest climbing gym chain (by number of locations.) Setting tends to be harder than other climbing gym chains but once youve sent a route, youll have a sense of accomplishment. This gym has more varied wall features than all other Hangar locations so setters can exhibit all sorts of creativity with routes.

I love climbing at Hangar 18! The staff is friendly and welcoming to climbers of all ages and ability levels. A lot of gyms feel sort of elitist, but Hangar seems to be all about giving all levels of climbers a good time in a safe and clean environment. There are plenty of routes for everyone, and the routes are creative and fun. The staff is skilled and knowledgeable, will teach you how to belay, and they even have lead lessons for those interested. The bouldering cave is awesome. Also, the staff keeps the place clean! So yeah, I liked it.

The husband and I brought my 4 yr old and my 13 yr old niece. Isaac gave my hubby and I lessons on how to belay then turned us loose! Isaac explains slow, repeats often and builds confidence without making you feel dumb. His thorough instruction made us feel safe in our OWN hands! The teenager had a blast, the small child got tuckered out and both me being out of shape and the hubby being in great shape felt challenged and had fun!

If youre in it for the rock climbing, this is the place for you. It doesnt offer and kind of weight or cardio equipment so really only for those strictly looking for climbing. Havent top roped here but the bouldering routes are excellent and changed up fairly frequently. Its well spread out too so theres never wait times to get on problems. Great gym.

Excellent routes here. Typical climbing gym benches, cubbies for your stuff. Two things though, first parking is...well needs to be worked on. Basically its just the side of the building. Its not clear where to park and the building doesnt have a great sign, so its difficult to locate for any first timers to the establishment.

Really nice atmosphere, the staff was awesome, and really treat you well. I like the variety in climbs, and wow, they have huge bouldering areas, everything from slab to inclines. Not much in the way of top rope, but still fun nonetheless. Highly recommended for total first-timers and veterans.

I just got off the phone with an employee who was rude and not helpful at all. Did not answer my question and acted bothered by the call. Surprised to see all the positive reviews here about friendly people. Maybe theyre only friendly in person?

Great boulder problems and roped climbs. Took a star off because this gym seems to have a lot of slippery holds- noticeably more than any other gym Ive been to. I suppose thats an indicator of how busy they get.

Great place for climbing. Very relaxed too. Begginers are welcome, but it would probably be best to show up with a friend if you want to climb. Good variety of routes, and lots of bouldering.

Great spot for both rope and free climbs. They hold classes/parties for adults and kids, so it can get a little crowded.
