Too many members! They will tell you they have a capped membership of 900 when you sign up but currently that have 950 and are constantly try to get new people to sign up. The space is VERY SMALL. 70 people in that room (yes room, thats all it is) would be the maximum occupancy according to a fire marshal. Its packed after work from 5-10. You are waiting 40 minutes for a machine to open up. Their spa is really nice but no one uses it. They need to get rid of it to add more space. Its a really nice gym but way too small with way too many members. Matrix is VERY CLEAN. They constantly have a guy cleaning the machines and locker rooms and the towels are always clean. Also staff does a good job at picking up weights and keeping them in order. I was at Matrix for 2 months and I switched to Colorado Athletic Club which is also downtown. Its cheaper, HUGE, 5 stories, more classes, and only 1400 members. Its busy during lunch but from 5-10 it is easy to lift and work out with no problem. To dawn on other reviews of Matrix: I have heard Matrix staff make fun of smaller men or older men working out or laughing at their form rather than helping the person. Also the music is WAY too loud. Every one these days uses ipods so I dont see the point. They play the music so loud that you can hear it over your ipod. If using free weights at Matrix, you will constantly be running into someone or having to alter your footing in the middle of a lift to make space for others walking about. If Matrix was 2 stories and capped their membership at 650 then I would definitely join but at their price of $200 to start out and $110 month to month. Its not worth it. Way too many members. Matrix, buy another floor in the building and knock down some walls. You have a lot of wasted space. J

After reading some of the reviews I feel I should share my experience with Matrix over the past year. I got a membership through the company I work for and decided to also tack on the Spa Membership. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with everyone that Ive come across over the past year, Kami included! I recently decided to leave the gym to join a facility with the pool and had no issue whatsoever. I was told very clearly when I joined the spa that I would be responsible for the full 12 months even if I left my company, which I understood and was held to. Justin who typically works the front desks greets me by name and could not be any friendlier when I walk in. Dorota, who does amazing work with my skin is so friendly and accommodating, she will even come in early to work with my schedule. Kami is the exact same way, she is always friendly and helpful every time I see her in the gym. The trainers are great, even though I didnt take the fitness classes the would recognize me and always say hello (even outside of the gym!). Matrix has a wonderful staff, the facility is clean and offers great amenities, if they had a pool, it would have been a no brainer. Keep up the good work Matrix!

I have been going to this gym off and on for 7 years. I would NOT recommend to anyone. Gym was on my way home from my business, convenient so I bought a membership, primarily because I wanted to hire a trainer to work with me. So, I hired the trainer - trainer got fired. Hired another trainer - trainer got fired. I was told to find a new trainer. Yah right??? Seriously? Working with a personal trainer is just that, its personal. So, I hire another trainer and what, pray they dont get fired too? WTH??? I am following my awesome trainer to a private gym and Im not hiring crap from Matrix. Dont think this WONT happen to you! Im stuck with a membership I will never use. Both trainers were exceptional - great trainers! Matrix also over charged me for a few personal training sessions and decided magically, they were right in doing so? I am an accountant and a business owner. The way they do business is less than average! Matrix also false advertises. The nutritionist they have on board is NOT a certified nutritionist with a verifiable degree. I think this is probably illegal?

Pros: Friendly staff, clean locker rooms and machines, new well working machines, free weights in good condition. Cons: Unless you are there for a personal trainer its overpriced for the service level and size of the gym. Managers seem to only stay for 12 months or less. Other notes: Their billing company will stick it to you, as theyve screwed me. Had to cancel my credit card due to the number being stolen on a weekend. They ran multiple NSF charges Monday at business open before I could change over to a different card. After I provided them proof that my card was stolen, they quit taking my calls/emails. Also read the contract, as when my wife signed up they said that moving out of the close area would allow you to cancel the contract. Now that weve bought a house 22 miles away we found out the close area means 25 miles. Tell me anybody that will drive 50 miles round trip to go to the gym. I realize that its our fault for not reading, but i feel like the front desk will say anything to get you to sign up

I dont know why this place gets a bad review. If you go at 5 when everyone gets off and expect ANY gym to be calm and machines open get real. we go at 11 or 4 and I see NO ONE there. Its wide open, a laid back place where I can be focused and that is ALWAYS clean and on point. Tons of machines, tons of options and every is in a good mood. For those who hate this place are just going are just going at the wrong time. Sure it cost more, but Emilee and Josh really show whats its about. They take the time to listen and work with you. Have taught me new things. Show you what to do. You are here to work out and enjoy it. Not to smile and relax. Try one of the classes with Emilee. I didnt think it worked out much at first, then the next day I could not move! It worked the area I "thought" were in shape. WRONG. This is the best gym I have been to hands down. Really personal. If you need to be here at 5 I have no help for you, but if you can come mid-day or afternoon the place is perfect!

I really have no idea why people are giving this place bad reviews. I had a great experience working with kami and she made it really easy for me to join. The staff is very nice and Kami was willing to make sure I knew all the info before signing up. The 18 month contract price, the 12 month contract price, the month to month contract price, the buyout of $350 to terminate early, the 25 mile move rule, and the "sub-lease" of my membership. They also let me pick my due date for my membership and let me start my payments in January, which is letting me use the gym now free of charge. The classes here are great and fit my schedule. Im excited to be apart of a gym that doesnt cost an arm and a leg with great class options. I also do not live in the building so this is not a biased review, just someone giving honest feedback from my recent encounter.
