Joined the YMCA three months ago. Family membership rate is decent price. Most fitness classes are free, as is daycare when you are working out. Good variety of classes. Members receive half off most childrens fitness teams and bi-monthly childs night out events. However, we have been extremely dissatisfied with childcare options provided to members. They admit they are not licensed childcare providers in the nursery (preschool program may be different), and it shows. The first time we tried nursery during a daytime fitness class, our barely 2YO child was recently potty trained. I told the staff that and asked them to take her to the potty within the next thirty minutes. I was told they had just taken a group of kids to the bathroom, that they would try to remember, but if she didnt tell them she needed to go, they couldnt promise theyd take her. Care providers supervise but dont spend time playing with the kids. The first time we arrived at Kids Night In, we watched three very aggressive acts (one ended in tears, another in retaliation) by older children during the ten minutes we were there at drop off. No discipline occurred. Staff were all sitting at table by entrance, disengaged. One of our children immediately asks for water as soon as pick him up - even though dinner is provided and water should be available. He guzzles down 8-10 oz of water within minutes. Older children are kept with toddlers in a nursery designed for younger children. After dinner, children must sit and watch a movie (usually PG not G, such as the Smurfs which we found inappropriate to show two year olds). No other option is provided or allowed, despite asking for it several times. They do not post the movie option in advance so parents can decide if they want their children to attend and watch this movie. You must register and pay on Friday for the Saturday event, but they dont tell you the movie until you arrive on Saturday. I attempted to speak to the aquatics director (who runs the childcare) about our experiences. I wrote a detailed letter, exchanged two voicemails, then the director stopped calling back. Since sending the letter, the staff is attempting to make an effort to engage more with the kids by doing a craft project, etc. However poor communication with parents remains. Last week, they were taken to the gym to play but the 2-5 YOs sat out because the older children wouldnt let them play. There was no organized game for the kids, just free time in the large gym with a few balls. This week one of our children indicated that they were hit in the face with a ball "on purpose" by a much bigger child this week. Our other child came home in a paper diaper (which we have never put on the child due to environmental issues and skin sensitivities), perhaps after having a potty accident (Im not sure because the wet clothes were not returned to us, nor were we informed of either event during pick up from kids night.) The YMCA is an average facility for basic fitness, but as a parent, I would not recommend leaving your children in their care.

This is not a world-class gym. This is a place with adequate, well-maintained equipment, friendly staff, and a full-sized pool. We pay more for the YMCA than the local 24-hour fitness, but find the atmosphere to be significantly better at the Y.

I love this YMCA. It is friendly and clean, two of the most important qualities in a workout facility. The membership is also very affordable compared to many gyms in the Denver area. Would definitely recommend, especially the yoga classes.
