If it were possible to give a -star review thats what Id give this gym. My husband and I transferred to Prestige Fitness when they bought Better Bodies gym. The gym has been under construction about a year. Every month, they would promise only a little longer. In the last 2 weeks, they allowed the construction to render the gym unusable. When I decided to request a refund (we prepay our membership by the year) the manager decided to call other members over to "shame me" for making that decision. I was then threatened that if I wanted to come back to this gym, they would charge me more as a penalty. I have been patient with the construction that started in August 2015, we are now 1 month from swimsuit season, and the following pictures are what it looked like this morning. ***UPDATE 5/20/16 THE MANAGEMENT lied about refunding our prepaid membership, so we are stuck at this gym for a year. This morning they simply didnt open. According to an employee at a neighboring business, they were shut down due to air quality, and the quality was poor due to asbestos! Not only does this company not care about gym availability to its customers, but they allow their customers to deeply inhale asbestos.

I have joined Better Bodies Fitness a few years ago and was paying $12 per month. Last year Better Bodies was acquired by Prestige. In February of this year I was notified that if I wanted to continue my membership I needed to pay $99 annual initiation fee in addition to the monthly fees to continue being a member. I have not signed up to renew my membership under those terms and let my membership lapse . However to my surprise, I was charged $12 monthly fee again after my membership ended. When I called to inquire if I can work out in the gym since I paid for the month, the answer was “no, because I did not renew the agreement”. So, in summary, I am not a member of the gym, yet Prestige is continuing to charge monthly fees. That situation is completely absurd. On a related matter, I also signed a contract for personal training in last year for 48 sessions. At the beginning of February I still had 4 sessions left on the contract, but because the trainer was sick I was not able to have these 4 sessions. Now since I cannot even come into the gym, I cannot make up for these lost sessions.

I just canceled my membership. I am disappointed because it is by far the most affordable option for our family, and I enjoyed many of the classes. My cancellation and poor rating is because I left the gym in tears after a very inappropriate situation occurred for my young daughter. Thankfully I realized what happened and nothing occurred (and hopefully nothing would have occurred), however I dont have faith that the childrens care at Prestige Fitness Lakewood can keep my children safe. The staff are kind but are not diligent, often on their phones or talking to each other...in this circumstance no one was paying attention to the development and had I not been there, I have no idea how long it would have taken them to discover this inappropriate situation, and I doubt that they would have informed me of the development.

Seems like a lot of select-rise machines break and take months to be fixed. They also took away a lifting platform with a squat rack - big mistake because they now they only have 4 true squat racks (2 Smith machines are other options) and there is usually a wait because people use the squat racks for stuff that can be done elsewhere. They also did not buy 35lb plates for free weights (bench/incline/decline/shoulder press)..weird choice but whatever I guess....I usually go early at 5am and its generally not busy and staffed by 1 younger lady who is nice. Top down Im not sure this gym is headed in the right direction. Its a shame because they have a large space to utilize but cant seem to market correctly or keep customer retention high. Again, the Top down structure and attitude seems to be going the wrong direction.

BEWARE: DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THESE PEOPLE! These personal trainers at Better Bodies are terrible! Not only are the trainers at this location incompetent and unavailable, they blatantly lied to me just to get me to sign up. After I signed up services promised to me were not delivered and trainers became unavailable. I seriously regret ever signing a contract. After having an issue with my account after a lie a personal trainer told me, I am given the run around. I wish I would have never fallen for the lies told to me by the trainer that signed me up, Joey. This company is obviously more interested in making the sale than creating lasting clients.

Truth is the transition this facility/building had from its former gym (Better Bodies) to Prestige did affect its reputation to some. From them closing for almost two weeks due to asbestos to a lot of remodeling and I mean A LOT of remodeling. But thats all over. All the 1 star reviews are focusing on than and not in the now (which makes sense because the reviews were given in the past and not now). Currently the gym is a great place. All brand new equipment, Olympic lifting areas, a great green turf with tires and a sleep and all new cardiovascular. The facility is 90% complete and I truly enjoy training there.

Great gym. The entire place has been totally redone, all new equipment. There is still one section being worked on (the group class area) and Im excited to see it when it is finished and go to some classes. They have an area where people can do cross-fit ish stuff up front with turf for sled pulling, rowing machines, box jumping, etc as well as 3 rows of cardio equipment. Staff is friendly, welcome me every time I come in and give me a boost if I walk in yawning. Great spot to lift with extremely reasonable membership prices and every machine/freeweights you could ask for.

Since this gym was bought out by Prestige, its been an absolute nightmare. Not only has there been hardly any equipment to use for the last 5 months, now theyre closed. Who knows when theyll reopen... The owners of Prestige Fitness are a bunch of clowns. I bet theyll be out of business in a few months. Something to consider for prospective customers. You know its bad when Prestiges personal trainers are working out at 24hr Fitness. Lmao

Their management absolutely sucks. As another person has said they were closed on Friday morning with zero notice. I was there Thursday and received zero notice from anyone about them being closed which leads me to believe that they were in fact closed forcefully due to air quality issues and not for any other reason. I wouldnt be surprised if this place ends up being condemned by the city

The potential for this gym is really amazing. Not only is it the cheapest price you will find for a gym ($9.95) a month, all of the equipment is brand new with everything and anything you could want. The gym is suited well for any style of lifting with free weights, cable machines, plate loaded machines, squat racks, Smith machines. If you get the chance Id check this place out!!

Gym just got shut down by Jefferson Public Health for asbestos contamination during air sampling. Ive worked out there for over a year and have no idea how this will be effecting my long term health. They dont care about the members health here and theres no excuse fpr their negligence.
