Topeka, 2/2/16: I recently had a very bad customer experience at your Topeka Southwest club. Maybe that is common across. I could clearly see how money minded you are and how little you care for customers opinions. I went ahead to cancel my membership yesterday at the Southwest Topeka branch. The first thing that your advisors are trained to do is to show the contract and point out that we are liable to pay for the next month as well. They keep saying the same thing 100 times, even though I try to explain my situation that i cannot continue that many days. I really do not understand why does it take more than 25 days to cancel my membership in your system, making sure that my money is not withdrawn on 3/1/16. Do you have such an archaic systems in place? I dont think so. Your contract says that I have to give you a 30 day notice period. Agree that I missed that deadline by ONE DAY. You dont even have the courtesy to let it go and not charge for the next month. All you do is to stand by your contract. Thats how you make profits right? I understand. Exploit customers and make money. Per our contract, I gave you a notice yesterday. So, the 30 day notice ends on 3/1/16. You have the right to charge for one extra day in march, I do not understand why do you want to charge for the entire month? I mean, atleast thats how other contracts work, like apartment rentals for example. Based on your exploits, I have a worst feeling about your gyms. I have never seen such a bad service anywhere in the USA. Ive stayed in CA, MA, NJ.

I was really not a fan of this gym. My biggest issue, personally, was the child care. I wasnt thrilled with it from the start, it seemed like there were only two adults for like 8-10 kids. The carpet was also very stained. Each time I came to pick my child up the lady working there always seemed annoyed because he was crying, but never fetched me off the floor to get him. What really bothered me, and sent me to a different location, was the fact that the child care provider decided to give my kid some other kids food with zero permission from me. She didnt know if my child had any food allergies and I have no idea what state the food she gave my child was in. Really not ok. In regards to the gym itself, it is really hot. Like the doors have been left propped open because its not any hotter outside. During the summer. The machines are packed together so tightly that you feel VERY awkward if someone is working out on the machine next to you. The space itself is so tiny it really doesnt lend itself to body weight work outs. Also things like medicine balls, kettlebells, resistance bands, etc. are damn near impossible to find. Tons of visible surfaces are crawling in dust as well. The disorganization and lack of cleanliness is pretty staggering. Last but not least it is super confusing to get to, and once you do find the proper entrance youre surprised as the surrounding landscaping is super overgrown. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra 10 minutes to Genesis North.

I have been a member of Genesis (previously branded Maximus) since I moved to Topeka in 2002. Maximus was a growing disappointment with poor equipment, very inexperienced and low quality, low knowledge trainers and managers... Every since Genesis took over, the positive changes are very noticable... Genesis staff does actually take the time to listen to your concerns, they brought in new equipment, better equipment, and have remodeled a couple times... and the trainers, so much better than before because Im pretty sure new management cleaned house of the poor staffers they once had. Its a very big difference. Coming from someone who was growing fed up and disgusted at some of the things I saw... poor advice/ not caring staff and equipment that was literally falling apart. Genesis saved these gyms. Things are never perfect, but I can tell you they have tried to make their buildings and staff much better.

worst gym ever... they will scam you by signing up long contract even if you asked them not to. I signed a contract for 3 months because I was in topeka for a 3 months contract job back in 2015 a week ago, I got a note from dept collection company claiming I owe them money for unpaid genisis membership. I called Ladell Rucker and Scott Huston (who approved my contract) asking them why they ruin my credit history. they said its out of their hand dont ruin your credit history with this bad organization. Its a lifelong mistake. they are supposed to help people to have healthier and better life but I guess not, their priority is to scam people and get paid more. If you are planning to join them, please think again. inbox me and I will share with you a copy of my contract and debt collection note. dont do the same mistake I did. there are much better and cheaper gyms around

I have been a member of Genesis Health Clubs for 4 years now and have had a very positive experience all around. My personal trainer is extremely knowledgeable and demonstrates the highest degree of professionalism, and he and the other trainers and workers consistently focus on the wellbeing of their clients first and foremost. My gym is currently undergoing a major renovation, which makes for some minor inconvenience, yet I have not experienced any real difficulty getting my workout completed around the construction. I also realize that when the project is completed, any minor inconvenience will have been well worth the trouble. I would recommend Genesis Health Clubs to anyone looking to improve their overall health, lose weight, or make a good lifestyle change.

Just went there to sign up because I see the ad on T.V. and also sometimes I see them in parking lots of businesses advertising. When I went in, I had my 4 yr old with me, we ask to use the restroom for him. They siad no because we are not a member. I asked for more info. "How do you become a member?" "Do you have a pamplet about the club?" She says sorry we dont have anything. I just said forget about it cause your service here sucks. Im guessing because it was so busy that she wanted to get rid of me. I had a horrible experience in less than the five minutes I was there. I guess there is a reason why my husband and I have not changed fitness clubs.

It is a gym. It is very packed as its under construction. Otherwise it is a good place to work out. The childcare is good and they are nice to my kids - my youngest loves to go. My only complaint would be general upkeep of the workout area. Things look like its never seen a duster and weights are scattered. It could use a thorough cleaning more often and organizing the weights daily seems like a no brainer for a gym. That seems like most gyms but those could really help it stand out.

Genesis at Wood Valley in Topeka has been wonderful to us. We had to cancel temporarily while my husband deployed. We had no issues with the contract or customer service. They were very cordial and professional. We signed up again when my husband returned. It has been an amazing place for our family. Kids love tennis lessons and swimming and the childcare center when Im working out. I consider this a great investment in our families physical and emotional health. Thanks Genesis!
