I have been training martial arts on and off my whole life, getting more serious in the last few years. I have been to schools through NJ, PA, and now CT. Plus One Defense Systems is second to none. Like the other reviewer said a lot of people scoff at a gym teaching many styles. There is no reason to do that here. There are different teachers for the many different styles they offer and all of them are extremely knowledgeable. You will get a great workout if that is what you are interested in, and you will also have the ability to learn high level martial arts. I train almost exclusively in Muay Thai with Mike Golden and he is a fantastic instructor. I have been to many gyms where they are not very attentive to your individual needs. This is not the case. Sensei Golden will help you improve your techniques whether you have been training the arts for 10 years or 10 days. Other than the fact that this is a great place to learn martial arts, it is a very family friendly/accessible environment. There is a small weight room with some free weights and machines that you can use any time. The mats are cleaned constantly so it is kept extremely clean and sanitary. Most importanly THIS IS NOT A MUSCLE HEAD GYM. You will not see people here that just want to get into bar fights. It is a very respectful, traditional martial arts establishment. You will never be judged inside these walls. We all start somewhere and it is important to know that nobody will look down on you and everyone, including fellow trainees will help you on your quest to get fit, and gain self defense knowledge. I highly highly suggest at least stopping by. Their rates are very competitve and they will usually allow you to stay and check out a class before you decide if it is for you. Give it a shot because martial arts, especially at a place like this will change your life.

Plus One has become part of my Christian life style, like I build on my faith, I build on the art of Jiujitsu, never in a million years would I have thought martial arts would be for me, but I proved my self wrong. Lol I cant begin to express how happy I am that I choose to do this, its been an awesome learning experience; aside from my faith is the second thing thats helped me grow in confidence as a human being & most importantly as a woman. Plus One has been very empowering in my life! I am 5 feet tall & 120lbs & in my forties, mother of four; if I can do this anyone can too! I personally highly recommend it to anyone who wants to venture out into the martial arts arena, with so many classes to choose from at a fair price, who could ask for more; not only do you become fit but you learn some really neat moves while getting in shape!! Its money well spent!! And on top of that Ive made some unbelievable friends & acquaintances whom all are lovely people, & a blessing in my life!! All of us together are highly motivated by all the excellent instructors at Plus One, all very talented who humbly enjoy what they do!! Plus One Defense Systems is the whole package one would want in a Dojo!! Plus One also teaches children from very a tender age & the impact it has in their lives is feasible!! Im extremely proud to belong as a student of martial arts at Plus One Defense Systems!!

As a mother of 4, I needed to find a school with teachers that offered structure and discipline but were also understanding and patient towards kids in particular. I was drawn to Plus One Defense Systems not only based on the incredible reviews they have but also by talking to other moms who have their children training in other places I thought I was interested in! I am so relieved I didnt sign up anywhere else. This dojo is not only one of the cleanest Ive been to (which is super important to me as a mom) but is also so welcoming that my family feels comfortable training here. I didnt have ANY interest in learning martial arts at first, but theres such a variety of styles and the teachers are so caring that I just had to give it a shot and Im so happy I did! I feel more confident than ever, I have more energy and have even made great friends! The prices are awesome as well in comparison to other schools, specially when you sign up for the two year contract. My kids are happy here which makes their mama happier! I can not recomend this school enough to women, parents and just about anyone who has ever had the slightest curiosity in martial arts!! Pay the school a visit for yourself and I promise you will NOT regret it!!!

I joined TP1 this past summer after being at another school for a year training BJJ/MMA. I was worried about the new transition with new people and instructors but after the first class I knew it was easily one of the best decisions I made to join the team here, everyone was welcoming and laid back. Their payment plans for training options are straight forward and fair, you get what you pay for and in my opinion even more between the amazing facility and the vast class and schedule options its simply a no brainer. On top of all of that they truly care about you as a student, they want you to learn and be prepared to get better and better. They also check in if they havent seen you in a while which really personalizes your journey and gives you a sense of the Team atmosphere. I have had to take time off recently and will have to for a while due to a medical situation but I cannot wait to come back and plan on staying involved in whatever way I can until I do. This place is magnetic, it would be hard to ever walk away from it. OSS

I went to cancel my membership (which was way overpriced to begin with - $115 to go twice a week) and they said that that would be my 30 days notice. Which means that even though I have a month-to-month contract, I have to pay the next payment which is scheduled to come out of my bank account. I was only a member for 6 weeks before I decided to quit and I am obligated to pay $345. Thats a lot of money, especially in this economy. What if you lose your job? What if you get sexually harassed by one of the instructors? A lot can happen in a month. I spoke with the billing company and the representative told me about a person who was banned from the facility, but still had to pay their next payment. If you do want to try this place, dont give them your credit card number. Ask if you can just write checks each month. Otherwise you will get screwed. I also think I got athletes foot from their mats. I dont know how often they clean them, but alot of big, dirty guys put their feet on them all day. Its kinda gross.
