We called Horizon because our heater wasn’t working. They responded quickly and the technician was very personable. After he looked at our heater ($80 service charge), he told us that we needed a new circuit board, which for them to replace was $900. Then he told us that because of the age of our heater (15 years), he recommended replacing the whole heating system, which could be $7,000-$10,000. They quickly sent over another representative to sell us a heating system, who also seemed to be a very nice guy. Well we decided that because of the high prices, we would wait for my HVAC-certified father to take a look at things first, even though he lives 2 hours away and couldn’t come for a few weeks. We ran space heaters in my baby’s and toddler’s rooms overnight and thanked God for warmer days. Then we ordered a circuit board online for $400 so that it would be ready for my dad to come and install, along with any other necessary repairs. Well my dad came and told us that our circuit board was fine, and found that we only needed to replace the igniter, which was a $30 part. He told us that any simple, routine check of a heating system by an honest technician should have found it easily. And now we’re stuck with a $400 circuit board that we don’t need (electrical parts are non-refundable). We called Horizon and they refunded our $80 service fee, but they wouldn’t do anything about the money we spent on an unnecessary circuit board (which, I grant, is reasonable). At the end of the day, though I’m upset that we spent a lot more than we had to, I’m glad that we didn’t pay Horizon $900 to “fix” our circuit board, or sell us a new heating system. But I would caution anyone else looking at them that they are going to try to sell you a heating system that you probably don’t need, and might tell you something is broken that is isn’t actually broken in order to push you in that direction. We’ll be looking for someone more local, and more honest, for future repairs.

No matter when I call, Horizon is always available to support my Plumbing and HVAC needs. As a larger organization, they have the staff and availability to add me to their schedule in most cases the same day or at most within 24 hrs. As a repeat customer, they have good systems in place to recognize your primary phone numbers on your account. They quickly identify you as a customer and have your service address pulled up by the time they answer the phone. It would appear to me that they also have good notes in their service management system/CRM about services performed or issues that you have experienced in the past. Unfortunately, I have had a number of issues with my sewage ejector pump. Each time, Horizon has been able to help and get my home back up and running quickly. In fact, they have honored a number of service calls under warranty from previous work (e.g. replacing faulty floats) with no charge to me. While this may be something I would expect as a consumer, Horizon truly stands behind their work without haggle. I have had a number of technicians service our HVAC and plumbing needs, and each time the technicians are on time, polite and professional, and always do a thorough job paying attention to the smallest details (e.g. perfectly cleaning up any mess that may have been made during the repair - you wont even know they were there. Most recently, I had Kevin E and John help with another issue on the sewage ejection pump. Both John and Kevin have serviced my home in the past and I like that I am able to have familiar faces who are also familiar with the history of service at my home. Kevin and John knew exactly what to look for and quickly diagnosed the problem - floats. My experience has always been that Horizons technicians are courteous, trustworthy professionals, and their service brings peace of mind that when something goes wrong they will be there to quickly resolve the problem. Thanks again for your wonderful service.

Saturday 3/19 Sunday 3/20 Saturday i had a HVAC Control Board changed, after the Saturday tech left the unit was running just fine so when I left for a brief period of time Saturday evening I came home to find the HVAC unit not working at all…a little saddened by this I spoke with Eric in dispatch and said a tech could be out between 8pm and midnight (it was not that cold and I said that’s ok can I have a tech Sunday morning) so by 945 am Sunday Charles (chuck) Munden came in all smile and with a great attitude for a Sunday morning (and started the conversation off with apologizing that something had occurred) he put on his boot covers and walked with me to the heater and started with the simple things, like power and making sure the thermostat was on…that’s when chuck found the condensate pump catch lid was propped up just a bit…and with a resounding (ah ha) he re-seated the pump lid and the unit fired right up “I stated laughing” and said “are you kidding me”…”nope”, said chuck it’s there to protect your home…(so valuable lesson always check the little things first) …chuck was also having a bit of fun with me and said “not to bad for my first day on the job”…I appreciated the humor.. and in a matter of min’s Charles was done his paperwork wished me a good rest of the day, and thank me and my wife for using Horizon Services and was off to hopefully help another family in need. Now I know, no one likes to spend money on the non fun things, but when you do it’s very comforting to know that the hardworking men and woman of Horizon appreciate customers and that the fact no one like issues, and less a few dollars in their pockets…but when you do need the service, it’s good to know that there are professionals and good people working to make things better. “Thank you Horizon Services for thinking of us as a customer and making things better”. Sincerely, William and Bernadette Templeton 411 Baynard Blvd Wilmington, Delaware 19803

My gas furnace did not start up. I had replaced my old analog thermostat with a new digital thermostat a few years ago with no problems. I am familiar with the workings of my gas furnace, and replaced my hot surface ignitor with a new one but this was not the cause. So I called Horizon to come fix whatever the problem could be. The technician could not get the furnace to start, so he bypasses the thermostat by rewiring the furnace, and the furnace starts. He then examines my heat exchanger and notices very small cracks. At this point he stops all work and states he cannot do anything else to fix my furnace because it is company policy to not get my furnace in working condition until I replace the cracked heat exchanger due to possible CO poisoning. I have several problems with this. First, my very tiny cracked heat exchanger in no way is related to why my furnace is not starting. In fact, many people now who have old furnaces greater than 15 yrs old are using their furnace with cracked heat exchangers. Second, the assumption that cracked heat exchangers lead to elevated CO levels in the home is wrong. I have CO detectors all over my house and none have gone off. Also the technician did not have any CO meter and did not take any measurements to verify his assumption. Third, he quotes me $300 to replace my thermostat with a new analog one and $1700 to replace my heat exchanger. Seeing that I have replaced my own thermostat, a digital one at that, for less than $50, this is outrageous. I paid my showup fee to Horizon and told the technician to get out. Afterwards I fixed my problem by replacing my induced draft motor, which was the real cause of my problem. Horizon is overrated. Look closely at the bad reviews online and you will conclude that these guys play on your fear and overcharge you and tell you that you need replacements that are not needed. So beware, they are con-artists of the highest caliber.
