we had you all out several years ago , and i shouldve complained then. i didnt as i thought i could live with the way it was done, the installation that is . but , ive aged a bit , and my frustration just boiled over today , with bloody hands and a mangled filter. the unit (AC Gas heater , and heat pump ) are great - they do they job , are properly sized , and the addition of return air vents in the upstairs bedrooms was a great idea and works fine. BUT : * the way the filter access was made , w/ sheet metal, leaves my hands bloody , the filters torn apart to get them out , and very difficult to put in : the access cut into the return duct for the filter requires me to : bend the filter , to get past some large PVC piping , , push the piping out of the way, and then down into the return air duct.. Today i destroyed a filter trying to get it out . So now i will hire a sheet metal craftsman, to rework the crap i was left with. * the return air vents installed upstairs in the attic work great . BUT - a new return duct was needed to tie them into , as the existing t eturn was too small. it was to run up from the basement , thru a 1st fl closet hugging the corner , up through the floor into a bedroom , then ducted up into the attic to tie the other 4 elephant trunks together. The duct was cut into the 1st floor closet hardwood floor , on the wrong end - then up into the 2nd fl bedroom , creating a bare sheet metal column in the room. it was too late to stop it , as the wood floor had been cut , and the opening into the 2nd fl bedroom was made (incorrectly as to location) Fortunately , i had a carpenter come in and build a cover over it . So , now i have this column , in the room , in the middle of a short wall , w/ an 8" gap between it and two walls . Had it been done properly, in the correct location, the duct would be in a corner, unobtrusive , The craftsmen were nice , polite and cleanup was great. But i wont be back. i would give 5 stars on the unit installed and the return air idea , and 1 star on general craftsmanship. Ive been around enough tin knockers in my life to know the diff. in a good quality job , and one needing to be redone. This isnt one of the good ones .

We hired Breeding & Day to relocate a 7 year old 1.5 ton air handler about 20ft to accomodate our plans for a finished basement. The original installation was a DIY job we inherited with the house and had poor placement and sketchy unsealed duct work. When Dave came out for a quote we could tell that he was very knowledgeable and really cared about the work he did. He was very detail oriented and after assessing our existing ductwork, recommended that we have all of it removed and replaced as it was not sized properly for the flow. We decided to have it done right and went with Breeding and Day even though they were more expensive than competing bids for the scope of relocating our existing equipment. We are so glad we made the extra investment! There was substantial difference in airflow before / after the new ductwork was installed. Despite the units age, it fired right up after the relocation and felt colder than before. We initially asked for a quote on a new compressor and handler (our system is 7 years old and uses r22 which is a discontinued refrigerent system) to which Dave refused as he said our equipment was in great shape and would not be worth the extra cost over acquiring additional r22. Other companies had tried to push us to acquire all new equipment which was significantly more expensive. The installation took just 2 days, looks great (much cleaner!), and runs much better. Dave and his team were hard working, transparent, and responsive to all communications. Would recommend to anyone looking for an honest contractor who cares about their work and does it the right way. Would recommend to friend and will do business again.
