These people pulled a fast one on an inexperienced mover. I recently took a job that required me to do a cross state move. I got 3 estimates from 3 different movers. 2 of the movers estimated 8500lb (~$5000 to ~$6000), but Jenkins Transfer estimated 14000lb (~$9,000). They did an over-the-phone estimate, and never looked at any of our stuff. I questioned their estimate, but the guy assured me if the other estimaters did their job, it wouldnt be a problem, and that he was just giving a high estimate for worst case scenario since he couldnt look at our stuff in person. What he DID NOT tell me was that most movers estimate low weight bids on purpose to get the job. I did not think my stuff would weigh that much (although 10k would not have been a surprise), but it ended up, supposedly, weighing over 15,000lb (I still question how this weighting is monitored legally). I just found it miraculous how this guy never looked at anything, and, yet, just about nailed the weight. How convenient! He also counted my 3500lb truck in the weight, but other estimaters considered the truck a flat rate (~$750). It ended up accounted for 25% of weight, and I probably would have been better off to just sell it. Personally, I think he only counted the truck weight to push the weight up to his estimate. Bottom line, regardless of whether he did it right or not, I couldve done this move (the same weight) for $2,000 less, because those lower estimates were guaranteed. I only went with this mover, because the other 2 movers could not do the move on the dates I needed. The second mistake I made was not just calling my local Atlas company. I thought it didnt matter, because Atlas is a nationwide company. However, this guy kept a portion of the profit for himself, and served no other purpose than a middle-man at my expense essentially taking a 20%-25% cut for himself. That, in itself, is the #1 reason, he estimated high. But, he also knew the other estimaters were just giving a low bid to get the job, and he misled me to believe they were actually trying to estimate the correct weight. So, bottom line, 1) Only do business with your local Atlas company. If you call your destination Atlas company, they will put a needless hand in the cookie jar at your expense. 2) Do not take an over-the-phone estimate. Dont necessarily take the lowest estimate (you obviously need to use your gut instinct or refer to any review info you can find on them, but definitely question oddly high estimates, and do not take their word for it, because, somehow, some way, your stuff willl end up weighing close to what they estimate so they can get all of their money! Also, I wanted to note that the movers in Huntsville (Dixie Moving and Storage) were excellent! They never complained, even they even helped me with my Uhaul trailer. Super nice guys. The 2 helpers from this company were also great for the most part, but one of them complained every time he had to move a large item upstairs, claiming it could not be done, claiming he had over 30 years of experience, not letting me get a word out trying to reason with him. I ended up having to show the guy how to disassemble one of my pieces to prove it could be moved upstairs. Like I said, they were nice guys for the most part, but I DO NOT like when workers argue with customers. You have to remain professional when you work with the public. Even the guy from Dixie thought he was out of line. Ive worked with the public myself in the past. You have to be the bigger man, and just try to be nice and work with people. We just had a few instances where he was a little too argumentative.

Weve been doing business with the Jenkins family for years. They have never failed to provide exceptional service to one of our clients or military relocations. We highly recommend them and their service. Honest, friendly, professional!

Refused to finish the job. Very poor services. Very dissatisfied. Will not do business with this company again. As a military family, we have moved many times and have never been treated this way. Disappointing.
