Just found out they purchased Emerald Hills Extra Closet in June. Changes; You can pay your bill by phone, which living out of state I need to and have without issue for over ten years. But, now, you cant just call up and pay the bill, you have to use a "special number" and what they dont tell you, is it costs an additional $10 to do so. Not that Im late paying now, and Ive only been late a couple times over the past ten years. But it happens. Late fees usually waved. Which were $15, now $20. Ive had several units in the past, nice to stagger the payment days through out the month. Now, all units must be payed on the first. (Wont be getting more than one unit now) Try to call direct, you get an automated service. Press one for info, two for existing customers. No matter which you press, it goes to Spanish, press again, it disconnects you. You cant get through to anyone. If you get lucky and it lets you through, you get some call center/service. None of which can except payment for a bill youre trying to pay. (How convenient) Change, fees fees, fees. Fees to cut the lock, fees if they auction your unit, which is interesting to note in the email I received the day after I called to pay my bill and report what I thought was a spoof email from a company I never heard of changing my due date was the following as quoted. "After thirty (30) days past due, a Foreclosure Fee of $100.00 will be applied to the account." "Foreclosure" ... If thirty days late on a unit? And was informed by a staff member, they will be starting "monthly auctions" after August instead of the auction every three to four months as most storage facilities do, and Emerald Hills did before.. Ie Sounds like they are banking on people being late paying. And with the fees they rack up, a guarantee they make money selling your stuff. Which in South Florida is very likely people will and can easily get thirty days behind on a storage unit. Which brings us to more changes. Normally if your things do get auctioned off, monies collected go toward the bill, anything over, you get. Not with SafeGuard. According to the email explaining changes, they keep all monies and you still owe all past due rent, and any and all fees they tacked on. Which can be numerous and very costly. It seems after reading their lease and terms and dealing with them a whole 48hrs trying to pay a bill; is that the only thing they "safeguard" are their own interests and devising ways to tack on ridiculous and unreasonable fees in order to line the corporate pocket, increase bottom line, and ensure that if you get behind, you stand little chance of catching up or keeping your stuff. Considering its actually owned by Stanley Morgan Properties, this type business practice comes as no surprise. Strategically, they already know the cost of living in South Florida is so high its has all but out priced even the middle class property wise. So not only do they take your property, they are quick to take your stuff too and insure ways that they can do so. From what I read and my experience thus far just trying to make what should be a simple five minute call to make a payment as I have in the past, it sounds like another major scumbag bottom line objective greedy corporate model has moved into South Florida. Should fit in nicely in other birds of the same feather in South Florida with what little else thats left down there now.

I was looking for a place to store a car. We have a son in the area and a property south of there so we are flying in and out quite a lot lately. First I was quoted $40/ month by another company and went to see it and it was a condemned house and a front yard that was 10" deep mud. He said go ahead park anywhere in there. Uhhhh NO. Then i hit the net and searched and found Safeguard. The property is close to FLL airport which is number on priority for me, its clean and appears safe. My only complaint is that there isnt any lean tos or covered parking. The sun is so brutal down there. Anyway it was like 129 per month and i feel like it the best option I had. The people were very professional and nice enjoyed working with them. Recently we moved the truck to my sons house and when we went to get it the battery was dead. I was disappointed they werent prepared for that and wouldnt or couldnt help us, I would think they would have a jumper pack, If it was my business I would.

Professionally run, professionally staffed, clean, secure, air conditioned, digital key-fob customer entry system, extended hours of operation, completely renovated. I have been using this storage facility for many years since it was still Emerald Hills Extra Closet and Safeguard took over this location and did all the renovations and improvements. Customer service is still outstanding by Roberta and Alan, 5-star staffers retained from Emerald Hills, and new manager Everett is a joy to work with and an outstanding asset to the operations of the company. I cant say enough positive things about this storage facility. They deserve the highest accolades for value, security and professionalism in an industry usually lacking in these areas. Thank you Safeguard for all that you do !!

SafeGuard, owned, financed and managed by Stanley Morgan collected an illegal $10 surcharge in Florida from customers paying by credit card over the phone via automated service and at locations by staff. This is a 2nd degree misdemeanors that carries up to a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail per incident. It has now been suspended as of a couple weeks ago due to one man willing to stand up and not only refuse to pay the surcharge, but fight for the rest of the customers. It has been reported to the State Attorney General and I would imagine Stanley Morgan/SafeGuard will be levied heavy fines as well as have to pay back millions they collected illegally from past and present customers.

DONT DO IT!!! Find a different place to store a boat unless you like repeated attempts to steal or just tear out all your wiring. This happened to me and I reported to the staff on duty they had me fill out an incident report and told me upgrades were in the works. I believed them and took my boat in to have $200.00 worth or rewiring done and the next time I went to take the boat out I discovered the exact same thing happened. My bad for trusting this place dont do the same.
