Like many people in this area, I was really happy to see the Pep Boys service center built recently. I had always used Pep Boys, and found their customer service to be excellent. Usually, I drive to the one on Dale Mabry. I went in on a Wednesday afternoon at about 2 pm with a question. I bought tires online, and need them mounted and balanced, how much would this cost. The first service writer, Adam, didnt know s$#t. He couldnt answer my question, so he had to get Bill. Who was working with another customer. I told him I wasnt in a hurry, no need to interrupt what you are doing. But he insisted. He came over, very distracted, and attempted to answer my question by asking a bunch of stupid questions. 1) They have to be new. I dont mount used tires. Are they new? (Yes, I told you I bought them online. Thinking to myself, who the F buys used tires online?) 2) What s the tire size? (I dont know. I know they are a 17 inch rim, from a dodge dakota). 3) Well, that doesnt help me. I need to know the size. (Look it up on your computer, maybe? Youre the tire guy. They are whatever the size should be). 4) Did you need them done today? If you drop them off, I MAY be able to get to them, or not. Not sure. I have (gestures to the shop with 2 cars in it), all this going on already. 5) (No, I dont want to bring them in on a day when you have "all this going on", can I bring them another day?) We are always busy, I guess you will just have to drop them off and leave them. 6) (How much will it be?) I dont know, maybe $25 per tire, so about a hundred dollars. SO I call the corporate office to relay this experience. Adam, the store manager calls me the next day. And tells me the following, paraphrased. 1) Adam (the other adam), should have been able to help you, I am not sure what happened there. 2) I will have to talk to Bill. 3) My service techs came from other stores, so they do know what they are doing. 4) I dont know how much it will be, I dont know the tire size (again! Cant you look it up on the computer?) 5) I am at the wrong computer. (Can you go to the right computer?) 6) waiting. waiting. waiting. 7) Oh look, they are do-do-do X do-do-do size. It will be $70.62 out the door. (Is this a Pep Boys price, that is consistent at every Pep Boys?) Yes. 8) So why was the price "off the top of his head" $30 more? Thats a big difference, from $70 to $100. 9) I dont know. As a resolution, I made an appointment at the Dale Mabry store at about 3 pm that day. Got a 4:30 appointment. The girl asked my vehicle yr/make/model, click click, that will be $70.62, we will see you at 4:30, your information is already in the computer. Walked in, tires were being changed by very efficient staff within about 10 minutes, and I was out the door in an hour.

I had a very different experience with this location. I had spent a great deal of time researching tires as the last set that I bought that were recommended to me by a shop that I had been going to for a very long time turned out to be the worst tires that I have every had. I was determined to not just buy based upon price, but on value. I stopped in and spoke to John Haas (I think that is his last name.) He is a very plain spoken guy, not full of B.S. pushing whatever the company wanted. He came up with four good alternatives. 2 of which, I had already been considering. He asked me some pertinent questions and then told me that when I was ready to buy to give him a shot. Two weeks went by, I had decided on the Michelin Premier A/S. They were not the cheapest and had gotten another price that was better than his initial estimate. I told him that I was ready, show me what you can do. He made me a great deal that provided both a good price and a high end product. Decision made. I came in the following morning. I had 4 tires mounted and balanced, an alignment and an oil change. and was out in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. I was showed the before and after of the alignment (which they didnt have to sell me. I knew I needed.) print outs and changed my wiper blades. To my surprise, the price came in lower than what I was told the night before with out the wiper blades. Dont get me wrong, I know that they made some money but I think it was a fair deal for everyone. I absolutely would recommend this shop. I could tell that since it is still pretty new, that there were some growing pains going on, but none of them effected my transaction. As an aside, I had to run back there later in the afternoon because I wasnt sure if the car felt right. They, without question, took the car drove it and re balanced the tires. This trip might have been 25 minutes.

Dont go here...unless you want things taken out of your car and to be ripped off. I came in for a rear brake job but got more than I bargained for. I was compensated for what was taken out of my car after my visit, but that incident got me wondering what else may theyve been dishonest about. After researching the bill, I found abnormally high prices compared to pep-boys website for rotors. They were each $50+ more than the most expensive ones listed online. I called the corporate customer service after not being able to locate the part numbers found on the bill. They couldnt figure it out either. I called another local pep-boys store and got an honest answer. I was told they were "outside purchased parts". I asked if they had the rotors seen online for my car in stock. They replied "yes". I called this pep-boys and asked about the price discrepancy. I was given a couple of total BS answers such as we dont get deliveries and a truck cant fit on the road to deliver pep-boys branded service parts and "those parts for your car are sold out" and that "we thought youd just want the work done sooner". I greeted his lie with "a pep boys 15 mins away just told me they have them" and asked why didnt you ask me if I wanted to wait a day for the normal priced parts to arrive? Or why wasnt I made aware or these extra priced parts when you called me with the price before service? "Its the norm" "thats just what we do". The manager called me back the same day and refunded me the excess amount. Do yourself a favor and find a different shop. There are so many better options in the Bay Area.

I use pep boys all the time but the one on dale mabry is far for me so I was happy to hear that they had a location on catfish little did I know that this was my biggest nightmare. I originally came in bc my car was turning off. Brought my van and the man started off with we might not be able to see you bc we are full I proceeded to tell him I had to have my car looked at it was urgent and I would wait so they told me it was the battery. The next day my car had the same issues. I brought it back big mistake they said they couldnt return my money for my battery bc obviously it wasnt the issue. they then told me it was the starter. Never have I been treated the way they treated me like they were doing me a favor as if I was not a paying customer. They are incompetent, rude and arrogant. Reason my review is almost a year later bc to no surprise my battery they sold me was a bad battery and is now not working. I got the same rude, incompetent arrogant man tell me that I had to hold on the phone bc he was in the back and would have to go all the way to the front to a computer to look up my info for the battery. My husband today went up there to exchange the battery after they told me yesterday on the phone that they had a battery and now they are telling him they have no battery. Poor service and DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!
