The Standard Spa Miami So many things to say about this place, its hard to know where to start. First, all of the facilities like the sauna, Turkish steam room and "musical shower" are co-ed. A tour of these open treatment areas was given by flipping through a photo album. Im not kidding. Once I was given the tiny robe, I was told to go down to the second floor to the womens locker room. The elevator is a very small, rickety old thing, and the walk to the locker room was surprisingly long. Even more surprising to see was a male janitor taking his time fixing a sink in the womens bathroom and, surprise, there were no private areas to change. I ended up going into the shower because it had a curtain. This is not a posh locker room either. It was very run down: peeling paint, rust spots, beat up boards, a broken shower head on the floor... I thought though, okay -- it must be a hell of a spa though for what they charge. Back upstairs to wait in the "relaxation room." A bathroom-sized room with a grimy old couch, sharing space with yoga products for sale. On to the massage. After telling the attendant I thought the name of the person I chose was a woman, I was ushered into the massage room. The 60 (or 70?) year old man who massaged me chanted a lot. He also spent a lot of time adjusting the translucent sheet. I dont think Ive ever wished that a 60-minute massage was over sooner! He seemed to enjoy it a lot more than I did. For a $200+ massage I expected to feel relaxed and calm, not tense and completely ripped off. Whats the deal, Standard? The appeal of the Standard appears to be the pool area. Lots of cool model types walking around with one eye on the door. Hey, if thats your thing, this is the Chateau Marmont of Miami, as the passed-out college kids on the lobby couches will attest to. If youre looking for a high-end spa treatment dont let the high prices fool you. Try instead the spa at the Fountainbleau!

THEY STEAL! I stayed here with my girlfriend on the last weekend of July (The Standard MIA). We had a great time, until thousands of dollars of my jewelry was stolen from the safe. I went through a 3 week battle with the hotel, who had the audacity of accusing me of A. leaving the safe open then B. checking out (so it is "no longer their responsibility" even if it was stolen). They filed a claim with their insurance who then turned me down. I feel absolutely robbed and horrible. One would think that they would want to have fair practice. All of my items were in a locked bedroom safe. Therefore, only someone with access to the safe could have stolen these items. I was the only person in my party with the code. So.... What does that lead me to believe? You fill in the blanks. The cruel way this hotel handled things, and their cold demeanor - even going to far as to tell me " they were not going under the presumption that the items were stolen" then turning around and denying they ever said that to me when they spoke to my lawyer! I refuse to mention specific names because I have some morals unlike this crap hotel. I plan on appealing the claim and taking further action if need be. I will tell you that I even offered a reward to "anyone who wanted to turn the items in no questions asked" - this WASNT about getting money from the insurance as those pieces were the most sentimental items I owned. Items from my late grandmother, my mother, my father , etc. They are pieces that can never be replaced. This has all be a nightmare and you would think a corporation would want to please its customers, but it looks like they are just another bottom feeder. So, before staying here, just know that shady things happen there and they dont take responsibility for their staff or any problems.

This is our second visit to The Standard Miami. We were in room 93, which is to the side of the building, no view. The grounds and the pool at this property are beautiful. The rooms however need updating. They are lacking basic necessities for a hotel stay, like for example, somewhere to put your toiletries and makeup bag in the bathroom, Or enough plug sockets to charge phones and laptops. The wifi coverage was unusable. I understand that this is meant to be a place to relax, but unfortunately even on vacation I still have emails and work to do in the mornings. The bed was too small for my husband and I to sleep comfortably, so I ended up on the couch. Which would have been ok but with the noise from the AC and the walls being paper thin I didnt get much sleep. The bathroom has the tiniest toilet I have ever seen. Which wasnt a problem for me, but it was definitely a problem for my husband (hes over 6ft tall) Moving onto the spa. Wow.. Serious renovation is needed. Tiles missing on the floor and walls in the showers and steam rooms, dirty windows.. Not exactly screaming luxury and relaxation to me. I cant fault the staff however, they were all very friendly and welcoming. From the front desk staff to the severs around the pool, everyone was polite and helful. Not sure well be staying here again in the future unless we get a great deal on the room rate and an upgraded room with a bigger bed!

I was there during the first week of July 2010 and my experience was very unpleasant. They were hammering and had jackhammer loud banging noises inside the spa and they had workers coming in and out. They ask their guests to speak whispering and to turn off their phones but they have loud construction workers yelling and banging noises. Their customer service is horrendous! They did a great job selling me a $12 coconut sugar scrub but they forgot to mention they were shutting down the water for plumbing repairs! Who Does that? No Water at a SPA!!! The tubs were dirty and when The scrub started to irritate my skin I had no access to water to wash it off. After I called an attendant it took them 20 minutes to get me to a shower because the entire 3rd floor did not have water. I was sent to the second floor and i got severe burns from the chemicals in the coconut scrub! It was the day from hell! My watch also got stolen from the locker room that day. My friends dress disappeared from the locker room on a different occasion. Do not trust their lockers! do not use their Tahitian coconut products and be aware that their spa rooms are old and dont look as good in person as they look on the website pictures. Do not go there, youll spend $40 spa fee, $20 mud, $12 coconut scrub, and $10 parking. i wasted $82 plus babysitting $60 for a nightmare at the Standard!!

Not friendly for new moms in need of a spa treatment... If you are looking to get your new mama friend, daughter, sister, or wife a spa treatment, this is not the place to go to. Over a year ago, I booked a facial and massage service at The Standard. I loved the experience for its ambiance and pool perks. Since then, I have wanted to relive the experience and got the opportunity when my family bought a gift card for my birthday. My situation has changed in that now I have an amazing 5-month-old baby, who I still breastfeed, but my need for relaxation has increased. My sister and I called several times to see if they could accommodate my needs (a private room with an outlet for 30 mins) but we were continually passed to another person, forgotten on-hold, or hung up on all together. Im not sure what I will do now that I have this gift card but I am seriously disappointed in the customer service that I have received, especially at a place that is marketed as being progressive, modern, and cutting edge. I realize that The Standard has a certain image they want to maintain, but I was not planning on bringing my child there. As a young new mother, I just wanted to spend the day there but was treated as an unwelcome guest.
