I have been going to Aveda for about four years. I usually go to the student side and ask for an upper level undergrad. I have never had a problem and have always loved the way my hair came out! I usually get partial foils and a haircut. A haircut on the student side is $12 and partial foils start at $36. The only thing is depending what you have done, it could take awhile, so plan on having a clear schedule. My main complaint is with the new "professional" side which has been now open for about a year/ year and a half. Do not go to this side!!! They will rip you off!!!! I went there after my birthday, theyre more expensive, but I had giftcards with me. Partial foils start at $45 and haircut starts at $22. I asked for partial foils and a haircut. The girl that did my hair said that partials start at $45 and it would be an additional $15 for additional color. On the student side its $36 for up to 2 colors. In the middle of doing my hair, she said she needed to add a color, I said ok. When I went to check out, the bill was way more than I thought it would be!!! They dont give you a detailed print out of your receipt, but by my calculation, she charged me for 2 additional colors when she only added one additional. When I went to check out with my gift cards, they said it was only for the student side. I argued that no one ever said that and it didnt state that on the cards. Luckily they allowed me to use them. I just went back recently for a second time, only because they are open during the week when I am free. I decided to only get partial foils that would $45. While she was rinsing out my hair after the foils were in she asked if i was getting a haircut. I said no. She then said I have to go get toner and then walked away. She came back and put toner in my hair. Then while rinsing the toner out, she said the your total is going to me $85. I was like what?? And she said it was extra for the toner. #1, I have never had to have toner but in my hair when I have gotten highlights. I think she might have screwed up the color and went to fix it, but then charge me for the toner. She did not ask if I wanted toner, or tell me the price of it until after she had put it on!!! Not to mention she got the back of my shirt soaked from washing my hair!!! My hair looks great, however I am never going back to this side because the constantly rip you off!!! Stick to the student side.

I would not recommend going here. It may be cheap, but you would give back more than triple what you payed to have your hair (or nails) back in their original condition. I used to go here all the time for a variety of services (spa, salon, waxing, pedicures, etc...)... but I cannot say I will be going here any longer. They used to be great in 2009 and 2010 (except for long wait times even with an appointment)...however since the start of the year they have gotten worse and worse! My boyfriend has had his hair messed up twice... isnt it extremely hard to mess up mens hair? In all honesty, Im not a beauty student, but I have done a fair share of amateur hair cutting, and I couldve done better than what they did to his hair! Ive also had to deal with their issues. Last time I went in for a pedicure, they did the shape of my nail wrong, cut open my foot, and various other issues. Ive been burned by pedicurists not knowing what they were doing and when I told them it was burning me they said "oh it is supposed to be hot"...when in reality they were literally burning me- I had a scar for a month afterwards! Ive had nail polish be see through and chip off less than 2 hours after it was applied, with no unusual wear and tear on my feet. Twice before theyve tried to get me to use broken tubs for my pedicures. There was even one time where the woman DID NOT SANITIZE the pedicure tub before she wanted me to use it. I asked her to clean it, but she continued saying it had already been cleaned even though that was obviously not the case- all of the previous occupants materials were still sitting on the tub! It was gross. Generally, each student forgets something IMPORTANT that they are supposed to be doing during your appointment. In all honesty, I have never seen a beauty school make so many mistakes. I realize it is a school and sometimes mistakes will happen, but this is just too much. I dont know whats changed about the place recently, but i wish it would go back to the way it was before. The people who do public work that is charged for are all supposed to be intermediate level or above students, they are not in the very beginning of their education- they should not be making the caliber of mistakes that they are making!

I got my hair cut and glossed here today. The cut is bad and the experience was mediocre. When I called to make the appointment they told me that the glossing treatment was $10 but then when I got there they tell me its actually $30. (its only $10 if you do it as an ad-on service after a color) I got the $18 advanced student haircut (they also offer a $12 beginning student haircut) and the $30 gloss so my total was $48. My student stylist didnt listen to what I asked for at all and gave me a cut that was close to the opposite of what Id asked for. She was also careless, pulling my hair and splashing me with water when she washed my hair, and not very friendly. When she was done butchering my haircut, her teacher fixed it a little but its still a worse cut than I had before I went in there. Ill have to go somewhere else to get it fixed next week and pay more money. Also, the glossing treatment didnt seem to make any difference in my hair at all. The whole process took a really long time, about 2.5 hours total because the students are essentially in class while they are cutting your hair and have to stop and ask the teacher questions and write notes down. At the end of the appointment they try to talk you into buying all kinds of Aveda product which is also annoying. Yes, Its a bargain haircut but spending money on something to make it worse than before is not a bargain, just a waist of money. Id rather spend $100 on a good haircut rather than spend $20 here and risk having a bad haircut that you then need to pay even more to get fixed anyway. I would not risk getting a haircut here unless you just want a trim or you want something really simple. Ive heard that spa treatments are ok though.

Overall my experiences at Aveda have been fantastic. I think they do a great job and their prices are cheap! Keep in mind that this place gets busy and the students are still learning time management. Your service may take a little longer than expected. My haircuts have always been great (mind you I get pretty simple cuts and trims). Your haircut includes a shampoo/conditioning with the fabulous Aveda products AND they style you hair afterwards! Ive also gotten partial and full highlights multiple times and they always come out absolutely fantastic! Full leg waxes were done very well and were pretty painless considering they are ripping your hair out in strips. I was not impressed with the pedicures. They are too basic (I can do better at home) and they have you crammed into this room with all the other people getting a pedicure on the most uncomfortable bench ever! The pedicure may be cheap but its not comfortable if youre tall. I think Aveda is a great value for those who dont want to drop a ton of money but want quality service. This place isnt perfect, but regular salons arent perfect either. And seriously...you cant beat the prices!
