I used to go to Salon Meridian for cuts and color. I always felt rushed, and even though I liked my stylist, I always was disappointed with the results. My partner began to go to Douglas J in Okemos, primarily for the natural Aveda products. With her eczema, Aveda products are the best for her scalp, and dont cause irritation. She began to to urge me to try Emory, for color. So when my barber retired, I went to get a consultation with Emory, and a stylist who has since moved out of the area. I was so impressed by the knowledge Emory posessed in her area, and I truly appreciated her empathy, as I have two types of Lupus, and she was, and is very gentle. If ever a technician washes the color treatment from my hair and gives me a botanical treatment, Emory is very strict with them about how they must be gentle with me, as my chronic pain is so severe. I have seen a fair number of stylists for haircuts. Not only are they highly skilled, they continue their education in order to keep their skills modern and fresh. I was fortunate recently to have had Emory highly recommend a new talent, Sami Martin. Now this girl can rock the heck out of some clippers if youre looking for a short cut, or long, guy or gal. Shes amazing, and has the skills to design patterns in your case so you get a custom look that no one else has. Sami is so talented, she was able to copy my tattoo into my shaved side. I do believe she will end up in L.A. or New York, working with celebrities. And then Ill be lucky enough to say, "I knew her.."

This was the most ridiculous experience I have ever had at a salon. I had a color service done by Maria, in which my hair started out as a light brown, and I requested a balayage. My starting hair was more than doable to work with to achieve the picture I showed her. After rinsing the color out I was left with cheetah looking spots of black and orange blonde all over my head. When she said she would fix it, she started brushing streaks of black/brown and bleach all over my head, ensuring me that this would work. Only to have her wash it out again, blow dry it again, end up with more spots and now drugstore high-light kit looking streaks all through my hair, and then tells me she left color in my hair and we would need to re-wash it. Throughout the entire process she acted as if I was a waste of her time and was speeding through it, slapping color on and smashing foils together. My hair is now insanely damaged and the color is still so beyond terrible. 5 hours later with an attitude she says to me" okay well you obviously dont like it so Ill walk you to the register. Have a good night." Where I am informed that my service charge will be $220. I would never, ever recommend this girl to do your or anyone you knows hair.

Ive been going to Douglas J for roughly 15 years now and they are by far the best and most professional Salon and Day Spa in the mid-Michigan area. In particular, Ive been seeing Sharon for eye brow waxes and shes not just a technician - shes an artist. Other salons will trim or wax your brows in just a few minutes and then, bam, youre done. BUT, Sharon is a true artist - she takes the time to shape and sculpture your brows. She uses a lighted magnifying glass while you lay on a heated table in a darkened room with relaxing music. She takes her time and theres no hurry. AND I always get compliments on my brows! Most recently a woman told me she had "eye brow envy" and she said mine were perfect!!!! I highly recommend Sharon and, when you go, please tell her "Jo sent me!"

Whenever I go to Douglas J in Okemos, I have Charley cut my hair. Never once have I been disappointed in her work. To say she is talented is an understatement. She listens to all of your wants and needs, and never fails to go above and beyond. Every time Ive gotten my hair done by her, Ive gotten countless compliments on how amazing my hair looks. Her vision for hair is unlike any other stylist Ive ever encountered. If you want your hair cut correctly, you need to schedule an appointment with Charley! She will not disappoint and you will leave smiling, all the while feeling confident and beautiful in your own skin. Thank you, Charley, for being so awesome and passionate about what you do!

This is a truly lovely salon. Best of all, one of their amazing hairdressers. Over the past seven years, I have followed Autumn Tomlinson from the Douglous AVEDA institute in East Lansing to the Okemos Day Spa Saloon. If your debating trying this salon I would debate no further. You will not be disappointed.. By far the best artist Ive ever had the pleasure style my hair. She will only use only the best products to keep your hair healthy and happy. I also had a blast with the staff who were such a delight to talk to. The vibe of this salon and her expertise is like no other. Classy, professional and relaxed. I always have an awesome time and look forward to my next appointment.

I first went to Douglas J about 16 yrs ago with a disastrous perm that didnt take done at a different "salon". I saw the owner himself. He took the time to look at the damage, ask me if I was ok with a much shorter haircut to really get rid of the damage, or did I want to mitigate it and go from there. I have never gone anywhere else since. It is the one place I trust to use ANY stylist there if I have short notice needs. Ive had massages, facials, manicures, color and hair cuts. Its always a wonderful experience with staff that is attentive and stylists and technicians that are talented. I leave feeling wonderful and refreshed! I recommend this place to anyone.

Every year my husband buys me the "year of rejuvenation", He pays for 5 facials and 5 massages and I get the 6th of each free. So, every month through the year, I visit the salon. I get facials and massages most often, but have also had hair blow outs, etc. Ive tried deep tissue massages, relaxation massages, Vichy water massages, Ive had multiple different types of facials. I appreciate the calm, serene, healing environment of the salon. The staff are courteous, respectful, very centered and calming in their interactions. I LOVE this salon! I always leave feeling wonderfully pampered and relaxed. I highly recommend them.

I have been looking for someone to cut my hair for a year. Im not overly picky but Ive had so many negative experiences prior to Douglas J. FINALLY! I highly recommend this salon and especially Timothy Walkinhood who has done a very professional, excellent job of cutting my hair just the way I love it! He is fun to work with and really listens to what you want. I met him the day of my sons wedding last September for a style and he did such an amazing job! I wear my hair very short but he was still able to give it a fun sassy look for an important day. Ive been coming back to see Timothy ever since!
