Beware of Hoffmann Electrical!!! I just experienced some of the worst customer service ever. From the condescending manager Tom to the tech Steve that was literally on-site for 5 minutes. Where do I begin? Its simple really, I contacted Hoffman Electrical for assistance in locating the transformer to my doorbell. I had already been dealing with and troubleshooting this issue myself so when I contacted them I knew EXACTLY what services I would need. I explained to the young lady that took the phone call, Olivia I believe, in thorough detail how Ive been working an issue with my doorbell and I already know what I need. I explained to her that I couldnt find my transformer in order to step-up the voltage to my Ring doorbell, so I needed a tech to come out and help me locate this transformer so we can fix the issue. I was then told by her "it would be $88 to dispatch a tech to come out and look at it. The tech would then tell me the price of the service and the dispatch fee would be waived if I elected their services." Now Im not mad at that, what I am steaming about, is that in the 5 minutes the tech was here he gave me no new information or provided any kind of service. Matter of fact, the only spot he even "looked" happened to be a place I suggested. Asides from that, he was quickly calling home base so they could notify me that to troubleshoot my issue it would be $379. What?! Im sorry you couldnt have just told me this over the phone?? Per the manager Tom "we are up front pricing. Did you look at our website?" Umm no sir I didnt. So if it is upfront pricing why when I went into so much detail, and took the time to explain to your office admin about my issue, why was I not told about the the $379...upfront??? Or why did the tech Steve mention "Sorry, about this, its been the 4th call like this for me this week." Its Wednesday folks. At the end of the day, they had the opportunity to earn my business or keep it, how ever you want to look at it. But they opted not to. All they simply had to do was listen to my concerns and work something out with me. Instead I had a long and lengthy conversation with management who insistently kept repeating "We dont charge hourly we charge up front. $88 dollars is what we charge to come out". Everything management said was being put on me, the customer. Alot of expectations and assumptions regarding the pricing and services. It was assumed I understand their "upfront pricing" and I was expected to understand that all the tech would do is listen, to what I already gave in detail over the phone, in person....for $88. Id do yourself a favor and find a company that understands the value of communication and great customer service, these guys are not them.

A very bad experience with Hoffman Electric (of Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota) – I do not recommend them for electrical work. And after looking through the reviews from the last 5 months, I realize now that I’m not alone. Given the other complaints, it’s interesting that the Service Manager Tom seemed surprised at “my confusion” regarding pricing. It appears that the concerns I expressed to him on the phone are not uncommon. For instance on Yelp since Feb/2016 – 5 one star reviews/experiences…and on ‘Google reviews’ in the last 6 months, 3 ONE star reviews and 2 TWO star reviews. I asked on the phone prior to making my appointment “how much would it be to change a GFCI”. Tom said “I don’t have the pricing book”, only the technicians have it. The pricing on the website says starting price of $18 for changing an outlet. Come to find out that this starting price is for “if you are having an entire house redone with new outlets”, per Tom. The actual pricing (once Hoffman was at our house) was $188 for one GFCI outlet, over 1000% more (that’s one thousand percent) than the basic outlet pricing on the website. It took the electrician 10 minutes to do the work. I also asked the technician if he could check out a fan/light that wasn’t working. He said there would be a $379 troubleshooting fee on top of the $188 for the GFCI. So a total of $567 for replacing one GFI and troubleshooting a fan/light. Does it seem misleading to anyone that the rates published on the website are actually for “having an entire house redone with new outlets”…and having 1 done is literally 1000%+ more (that’s one thousand percent) than the published rate? You can call the manager to complain and they may reduce the price slightly, but I have to agree with the other posters who called Hoffman Electric a “scam” and their website pricing “bs”. This is my first review ever, but feel the need to post given our experience. I wonder if the electrician turnover is high at Hoffman. Given the reviews, it would seem that the technicians may take the brunt of it from unhappy customers once they are onsite and reveal the actual pricing. If this is the case, and the technicians hear these complaints frequently, yet Hoffman knowingly continues using the same business practices, then this is a major issue...

One Great Experience. A Hoffman electrician visited our home on Friday, July 14. After about an hour racing both a storm and schedule that him due in Land O Lakes he understandably was feeling rushed. Our electric problem was made clear to us, but in his haste he left something extremely minor undone. I called the office to alert them that the job was left incomplete. After speaking with Carey, the office manager voicing my displeasure she apologized profusely and assured me that "Tom" the service manager would call me right back. Within minutes not only did he return my call, he was armed with a solution. He informed me he has two techs in the immediate vicinity and with my permission he would dispatch them to my home. A few minutes later the bell rang and two smiling faces were on my porch. Not only did they immediately apologize for inconveniencing me but went right to work. Fixing the problem I called them back for in minutes, if that. Steve and John spent time, a good forty minutes, double checking the previous work and went even further, checking the outlets in the entire home even though I did not request it. Two points, the electricians that visited me that day, were clean, neat in appearance, professional and extremely qualified. I could not have been more pleased. Point two, the office response was overwhelming, the desire to "do right" by the customer was at the fore. I would recommend Hoffman Electric to friends, family and neighbors without reservation. They really stepped up.

"Up front pricing" is total BS. I called them to install a ceiling fan and new wall switch. The price on their website lists ceiling fan installation "from $75". I called to confirm a standard install should be around that amount to around $150 if no issues are found. Upon arrival, the electrician told me he needed to charge an extra $379 to troubleshoot since the existing fan was not working. I questioned the need to troubleshoot since we already knew that the existing fan was not working, but he insisted and spouted some nonsense about needing to "open it up". When I asked what that meant, he said it means removing the switch and the fan. I told him that those needed to be removed anyway since those are the things he was there to replace. He needlessly determined that the wall switch was bad and finished the standard fan installation in about an hour with no complications. I was charged $350 after some haggling. I find this upcharge to be dishonest and will not use this company again. This is an hourly rate of about $250 and is not "up front".
