I arranged for a cake to be picked up and delivered to my wife as a surprise. I worked with the dispatcher to have the courier pay for the cake and I augmented my online delivery payment to include the cost, and a generous tip to offset the inconvenience. The dispatcher had these arrangements approved by her boss and confirmed that she communicated the details to the courier. However, when the courier arrived he demanded payment from my wife, having not received the information. My poor wife was taken aback, thinking she was being scammed. She was embarrassed and very upset, mainly with me! I communicated my displeasure to the company who only, rather tersely, apologized for the miscommunication on their end. No attempt was made to make it right.
