we submitted a vacation hold online for a 4 week vacation, and when we returned we did not get our mail service continued as requested. i had to go back to the post office 3 times and call numerous times only to find out that the postman apparently never got our request (which i had a printed confirmation for) and so they had returned 4 weeks of mail back to the sender. while i was dealing with this fiasco, every person that i came into contact with either on the phone or at the office was totally rude and seemed uninterested in my dilemma and no one would take responsibility for the error. we are no going out of town for 6 weeks and when i went to go submit my vacation notice, i explained to the lady at the window the previous situation and that i wanted to make suer wed have no problems. she just looked annoyed and said everything would be fine. just in case, i left a note for my postman to let him know to look out for the vacation hold request. he then left me a long note saying that holds for more than 30 days needed to be approved by the post master. i couldnt believe that the lady at the post office listened (or didnt really listen) to my whole story from previously and said that there would be no problem, when obviously there is a problem! i leave today and so i called the post office to make sure that the post master approves my hold for over 30 days. when i called, the girl who answered was rude and told me she would call me back. now i know from my previous experience that when they say someone will call you back, you only have a 50/50 chance of that actually happening. so i told her that it was really important that she call me back this morning because i was leaving today. this must have really annoyed her because she did not acknowledge this and just said, "someone will call you back" and then hung up. now i dont know if our mail is going to be put on hold or if after 30 days, all of our mail is going to be sent back to the senders like last time. this post office is awful . i wish that the people who work there would develop a sense of accountability and pride in their work. they are so unprofessional and unhelpful.

I wonder about this post office. I wonder if the mail person works from this office. Theres just something wrong with the mail system in Arlington Heights. I dont get my sales paper regularly. Its like, some weeks I get them and other weeks they go missing. Some days I dont have any mail and then other days I get more than what normal may seem. Well, that may not be the fault of this post office, but Im suspicious. Then we have a designated mail box for packages that they seemed to use whenever it pleases them. What I mean by this is that if we get a package and it fits and is available, they can drop the package in this box and then leave the key in our mail box. Then when we pick up our mail, we can see if we have a key and then use it to retrieve the package. So this is where I expected to see the flat rate envelopes I ordered from the post office to appear when they arrived. But nope. The gave me a slip to pick it up at the post office, even though the package box was available and was large enough to hold these envelopes. But so be it. I then proceed to go to the post office and there were maybe 3 people ahead of me and 2 people working at the counter. Somehow, it still took 30 minutes until it was my turn. The people were well, not mean. I dont know if I would go as far as describing them as "friendly", but "not mean" seems like a good description. But more importantly, these people are slow. S-L-O-W. So slow that it makes you want to apply for a job here because you could excel at this job with little effort. Its so slow that you would have to be going out of your way to be this slow. Its so unnaturally slow. Sigh...but I guess we are stuck with them. I seriously contemplated moving away from Arlington Heights just to not be associated with this post office.

l was at the Post Office yesterday to send in an insurance claim for a lost item. When the supervisor slowly made her way to the counter, she looked annoyed and authoritative. She refused to accept the refund for postage and the claim form even after l told her that was the instruction l was given from US Post Customer Service Department as l have not heard from Recovery Center regarding my lost item. l explained to her as was explained to me from the Customer Service Department that once the claim is submitted, the insurance department would co-ordinate with the Recovery Center to resolve this matter. She insisted that l have to send the letter AGAIN to Recovery Center and wait for them to reply me. l showed her all the documents that l have prepared and the date l have sent out the letter to Recovery Center. It is already 2 and half months now. She said that this is the instruction she have got from the Postmaster. l asked her to call RC which she refused. l asked her to give me RC telephone number which she said Arlington Height Post Office does not have the number. For a minute l thought the world is in stone age period. It is just so frustrating talking to a person who is obviously very unhelpful and unwilling to do anything. As for the Postmaster, it does seems like a change of environment might do him good. l have no issue with the staff at the counter nor the Customer Service Department. In fact they are the complete opposite. Hurrah to that! l enjoy walking into our local Post Office, it feels like home. We just need customer orientated staff there.

Horrible Customer Service!!! The people that work there are lazy and incompetent. I called an hour in advance to check and see what is the procedure for submitting an application for a passport and the man who answered the phone, I believe his name was Rick, told me that I only need my citizenship certificate and thats all. Well, It turned out that this was not the case. After waiting in line for 25 mins, a gentleman tells me that I need to schedule an appointment in order to submit my application. Ok, I agreed to see what was the earliest available and luckily there was one in 10mins. I waited at a different station another 10 mins until the same gentleman showed up and asked me to pay cash. I specifically called to ask whether I can pay with a credit card and the person who answered the phone told me with a smile on his face, a little ironically: "Yeah, you can pay with a credit card." So after 40 mins at the post office, I left and was force to go to another location because I did not want to deal with these people again. It is a real shame that such people have jobs... I am extremely disappointed and even though this is the closest location to my house, I would never go back there again. Now I understand why this postal office service is rated with one star only. They really deserve it!!!
